This is a comfortable and well run Cinema in the Insitut Francais. We are becoming regulars because it is such a pleasant experience. We tend to combine our cinema going with a light meal at the Cafe Tangerine downstairs - on a good day it serves some of the best quiche in London.

Excellent, interesting selection of films, and warm, friendly welcome at the main desk. The seats in the cinema were unusually comfortable - I wasn't fidgeting around after an hour as I normally do, and this made the experience truly enjoyable. There's also the adjoining and brilliant Café Tangerine (also part of the French Institute), to grab a drink, a coffee, or something delicious. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

My first time in a long while to this really comfortable cinema. The staff are friendly and helpful and speak perfect English. The foyer chairs are comfy and the cafe area seemed busy while I waited. The production was long (Molière's Le Misanthrope ) with only a 10min interval but we were disappointed to discover the bar closed then so the drink we'd looked forward to wasn't possible. Seems a shame.

After the refurbishment of the summer the Cine Lumière has changed its system to allocated seating, but what chaos has resulted. Presumably as one member of staff is now required to show people to their seats, there is only one cashier at the box office. She asks each purchaser in turn where they want to sit and they must choose from a scrappy paper diagram whether they want back or middle. Big choice. If you must do this at least do this properly with a screen on which you can choose your precise seat. The cashier then searches for something and only then is the transaction made. This takes three times as long of course and the twice I have been recently the queue for tickets has still been out the door when the film started.
Because of this people are still coming in when the film has started and climbing over and disturbing those already seated to get to their allocated seats. As one of a group of people who like to use this cinema we can no longer buy tickets as we arrive and then sit together. So why this change? Is it to push people into buying tickets online in advance and thus pay the booking fee? Unless of course you take out a £45 membership.

I recently went to Cine Lumiere to see an Italian film at the London Film Festival. Staff were helpful, seating was comfortable. The only issue I had (hence the three stars) was the condition of the basement toilets. One did not flush properly and the men's loos were under refurbishment so there was more of a queue than normal.

Certainly in our experience. Whats more, there is lots of room for one's legs, and the sight line for the screen is superb.( I am quite small).
A beautiful marble entrance and charming staff make this a cinema worth going out of one's way for.
I put down the lack of choice of real food, to the fact that it was just after the Christmas holidays.

Helpful staff who remembered me after my first visit, which always feels welcoming! Exceptionally clean throughout, seating was comfortable, and the variety of screenings appealed to different interests.

Always great to enjoy the building and auditorium environment but frustrating when sound reproduction varies so much - last night The French Dispatch more incomprehensible than director intended with what was being said so muddy to hear: surely this should be impossible these days, or is it a side effect of Covid-19?🤨

What would have been a memorable experience watching Mughal-e-Azam for the first time on the big screen, was partially ruined by the usual fresh-off-the-boat crowd who (unsurprisingly) love to comply with masking policies (irony lost on them as the screen actress Madhubala sings to them 'if we do not veil from God, how can one veil from other humans', but let's not even go there!), but are MORE than willing to break the cinema's 'NO FOOD AND DRINK' policy - in the shroud of the darkness in the back rows, as is the way of cowards

Disappointingly, this policy was not monitored/enforced DURING the screening by the staff, much to the joy of the Indian Buffet lying in wait once the lights went off.

I had the pleasure of listening to these (for lack of a better word) plebs who seemingly are always on the brink of starvation during performances of art and culture - I vividly remember the same experience when Anoushka Shankar was playing the Sitar. Cracking open cans of coke, unwrapping things for an eternity, crunching away, all the while mutilating the melodious voice of Rafi, music of Naushad and the poetic dialogue of penned by Shakeel Badayuni.

But who said they came for any of this anyway?

If only the weak workers had the guts to challenge them, then art lovers like myself (who incidentally paid close to £100 to travel and watch this) could get a few hours of pleasure, and the chaat masala crowd could be kept at bay with reruns of Dabaang 3 on Zee TV in their homes.

The cinema has really comfortable seats and I really appreciate that the room is pitch black whilst the movie runs (my local cinema keeps the side lights on and personally I don’t like that). They also play independent/ smaller movies that big cinema chains usually don’t, as well as the popular ones. It’s also pretty cheap. I payed £5 for my ticket, which is great considering that when I went to a different cinema not too far away I payed £16.
