Gorgeously restored 18th town house at Green Park. Impeccably decorated to time of first Earl of Spencer. Take the guided tour as we did to appreciate how thoroughly authentic it has been restored. Our guide surely was an art historian at university, for she knew everything about all furnishings and art. Only house of this type available to see. If... More

Booked online for the tour of Spencer House not knowing quite what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. If you get there early enough you can view a short film before your tour. Groups are limited to 20 people at a time and this is just right. You cannot wander around on your own which is a good thing... More

Booked this private tour at very short notice but the staff couldn't have been more accommodating from start to finish. Our guide Mr Chris Stallworthy who just happened to be the events director gave us a marvellous Insight into the history of the house and the reinstatement of its former splendour after the post war decline. Our visit ended in... More

Though once owned by the family of Princess Diana, this is now a showplace and event space. Still, if you like elegant decor, the tour was the way to go. Only open one day a week, Sunday, it's important to plan ahead.

My wife and I went to Spencer House on a Sunday morning. I had booked tickets for 10:30 am. We were given a tour with about 20 other people. Carol was our tour guide and she was very good, giving us plenty of information about the paintings in the house. What I really liked was that there was plenty of... More

Came here with high expectations to visit the house and the gardens but was much disappointed. The tour guide (old lady with short hair) was not at all professional nor interesting. She gave random and false facts about paintings in the house, such as mixing up Greek and Roman architecturelal refeeences, naming the wrong painter/sculptor, stating the wrong period, etc.... More

We went last weekend to Spencer House and it was so interesting! You can buy the tickets on the day at the house and they will allocate you in one of the slots available. The ticket for the house is separate from the ticket for the garden but I would recommend to get both. They take you through several rooms... More

Spencer house is beautiful stately home which overlooks Green Park. Followed the location guide on their website and it is easily accessible just a short walk from Green Park tube station via Green Park. It is a 1 hour guided tour which although is good to hear about the history, it means you can't explore the rooms at your own... More

We decided to visit because the small garden is open for 2 days this year and a visit to the house and garden seemed appealing. We were not disappointed. We had a wonderful guide in the house. He was a very well informed blue badge guide and explained beautifully all about the history of the house from the mid 18th... More

While Spencer House is not easily found, it's well worth the search (it's located very near St. James's Palace and the Green Park). We had a wonderful tour through this mid-18th century great house. Jo Ann was our guide on this hour-long tour through history and she gave great insight into the property.

Staying in St. James's

Neighborhood Profile
St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
