Far beneath the majesty and splendor of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protegee Christine Daae is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.

The musical opened at Her Majesty's Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 26th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End, after more than 10,000 performances.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's mesmerizing score along with jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life each night.

The show seems to have been on forever, but this was our first visit. Despite all its previous plaudits we were not disappointed, and the show was fresh, exciting and brilliantly done. The theatre is currently under some sort of refurb and has scaffolding at the front, but once inside there is little sign of this work and the theatre... More

Best. Set. Ever. I loved all of the leads-that never happens in s musical-usually someone is out singing someone. Nope not this time. It's worth paying for a better seat. The theatre is lovely. Best statues ever. The concessions were not as robust but who cares. Amazing show. Wow. Wow. Wow.

We went to see this on Wednesday 20th July. Had decent seats in row B30-33 of royal circle. Have to lean forward a bit for small part of the show to see action on far left of theatre but apart from that had a great view. The theatre is very ornate and traditional and the special effects are fantastic. We... More

It was good but the two people playing the leads (Christine and The Phantom) didn't really do it for me, he was a really talented singer but overacted shockingly, which is hard to do in a musical, and I didn't really rate the woman as much of a singer but her acting was good). All of the people with smaller... More

Despite all of the hype we found this production to be a bit of a letdown. Tiny cramped seating, old and worn out decor, a very moody staff member and extortionately overpriced drinks made the whole experience quite bad. This is one venue we won't be going back to in a hurry.

This is the best theatre performances ancestors of all time. I have watched it 3 times and that is still not enough. The music is incredible and captures you right from the beginning. The acting is so sincere that you are locked in to the love ⛛ from the beginning. Beautiful performance.

The show was incredible. The stage settings and theatrics were remarkable. The actors had amazing voices and at times their performances were very moving. We weren't even in great seats but we could appreciate the show and thoroughly enjoy it. Definitely worth a watch if you're in London. Amazing.

The combination of the intimate historic theater and the impressive talents in all aspects of the production left us bowled over. Not only were the vocal talents impressive, but the orchestra, staging and costumes completed the magic of the evening.

My favourite musical, I don't really know how to put it's brilliance into words. An absolute must see for anyone who's ever wanted to see anything on West End!

Staying in St. James's

Neighborhood Profile
St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
