Far beneath the majesty and splendor of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protegee Christine Daae is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.

The musical opened at Her Majesty's Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 26th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End, after more than 10,000 performances.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's mesmerizing score along with jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life each night.

I brought my teenager daughter to see the show as I had seen it before. It is amazing and if you are new to the west end it is the best West end Musical of all time

I guess this is where this musical was first staged, and where it's been playing ever since, but if that's true, I'm not sure how it got so popular. This theater was not large enough to do justice to the sets and as a result, if you're sitting beneath the first balcony, you miss some major action and scenery due... More

We saw Phantom last Monday for the very first time. We had heard lots of great things over the years but it totally exceeded our expectations. Great music, great sets, great singing especially from the Phantom. Andrew Lloyd Webber was sitting 4 rows in front of us in the Royal Circle and I hope he enjoyed his night as much... More

Saw this for the fourth time last Saturday night and this was the best yet. Ben Forster in the role of The Phantom was truly magnificent, lending a new and refreshing interpretation of the role. My partner had never seen it before, and she absolutely loved it, and yes, she cried a lot! I fully expect to see this again,... More

We have seen Phantom of the Opera a number of times over the past 20 years. I was pleasantly surprised at how strong the lead performer was playing the part of the Phantom...outstanding in every way and brought a new dimension to the part; The female singers seemed to screech throughout their parts though--sadly disappointing. Great costumes, sets, and overall... More

The musical is amazing, from scenery to costume design, and the wonderful vocals and actors. Truly loyal to the production

There's not much that I can say about "Phantom of the Opera" in London that hasn't been said: Amazing performance, iconic theatre, beautiful music. I'll just add a tip - you can get day performance tickets for the Thursday matinee show if you queue up at the theatre by 10 am. Tickets go for £25 and you can get some... More

I am not a big fan of the opera or musicals but it was worth of every penny we paid. After the whole day visiting London I was wondering I may take a nap, but no way it was really great show. The theatre building is also beautiful.

We loved the show. My only recommendation would be to spend a little more for the better seats if available. We purchased tickets last minute and sat at the top of the theater. I wouldn't trade the experience for the world but I wish we had sat in a lower level.

Our 1st visit and was unsure as we did not have the best seats! Seats very high up in the Grand Circle, but what a surprise! We could still see the stage very well, stage set and costumes exceptionally well done and the music simple moving! We had a very enjoyable evening!! Can recommend!

Staying in St. James's

Neighborhood Profile
St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
