About
Open 7 days a week, it is the perfect antidote to the high street. We bring together small producers with local creatives and artisans, original independent retailers and a few well-known brands under one historic roof. Our daily market is home to a selection of carefully chosen traders, craftsmen, artists and artisans alike, picked for the quality of their product, and the stories they have to tell. We are interested in how things are designed, the creative process and the interesting people who produce the products you’ll find here. We champion quality and responsibly sourced products and we assess each operator individually on this basis. In the centre of the market floor you will find our ten fully fitted kitchens where we showcase exceptional contemporary and authentic cooking. We are proud to offer new levels of quality and variety in the dishes prepared by our chefs and operators, many of whom have already established great

Neighborhood: Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.

Brilliant covered market, so many stalls! Very busy with shoppers however some of the stalls begin to repeat their products after exploring for a little bit. The food is delicious, and prices are a little expensive, similarly with the stall items. However the overall experience was worth it.

Lots of good options for food and shopping here. We got a good breakfast deal with sandwich, hash browns and coffees for ten pounds each at Mama's Goodies and saw many other tempting offerings there. The market opens at 8 on weekdays and 9 on weekends but things don't start really getting going until 10 or 11. Some of the shops had not received their deliveries by 10 and some restaurants aren't open until 11 or 12. Closest tube station is Liverpool Street and there are quite a few bus stops nearby so it is very accessible by transit. The toilets we were aware of were down in the basement and you needed to take the stairs.

We did a bunch of open air markets while in London, but this one was unique. Most markets just offer food stalls (which is amazing!) but Spitalfields also offered many artisan gifts! Lots of local artists with booths selling any nick knack you can think of! There also was a decent amount of food stalls. The vegan bakery food stall Polka Dot was amazing. We were able to get a lot of Christmas gift items for our loved ones while here.

I come to visit during Colorwalk, when my vibrant artist friends congregate at your amazing market to support the sellers and enjoy a delicious dinner. I reside in the Hudson Valley, New York. There are so many amazing food vendors, craftspeople, antiques, and more. In addition, a matcha store!

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Spitalfields marker with my husband. Was impressed by the merchandise on display especially the unique fashion pieces that you wont' find in the mass fast fashion market. There was also food from all over the world and I tried a Japanese dessert that was so lovely! It was so nice to experience elements of various cultures without hopping on a plane! This is what makes London such a great city - it's limitless ethnic and cultural diversity. I highly recommend!

We decided to go into the city on a cold February Saturday. This is a lovely large market place with a lot of stalls and eateries. The market was very busy and lively, the market has toilet facilities and they’re clean. Some great coffee places and a pleasant way to spend the day. There is plenty of shopping to be done in the area and the surrounding areas. If you’re in the market you must try Humble Crumble absolutely the best and deserves the accolades of the best crumble in London.

I used to live near here before redevelopment. I think it’s a triumph and we visit every few months and are always impressed at how it continues to evolve and surprise. The new section on Lamb Street is a cool addition from food trucks to permanent outlets.

The history of this place is amazing. Even without the market stalls, just walking around it is quite something. It's got a really cool vibe with all the handmade creative stalls, and there are so many different types of street food you're spoilt for choice! Some of the products are a bit expensive, but I guess that's the price to be paid for handmade stuff versus the mass-produced rubbish we are used to. If you're looking for a bit of London history combined with some fab street food and handmade quirky stuff to buy, this is a great market to go to.

This place is awesome. I recommend for everyone to go. Such a colorful and rich experience with food, shopping and all of it. Even though there’s so much to do in London, I highly recommend you coming here for an afternoon. It’s really a blast…then you hit brick lane, check out some street art and you’ve got the best day ever!!

Thursday antique and vintage day is worth a look and on the 3rd thursday of the month you will also encounter a great bright and cheerful exhibition of the colour walk. I was pleasantly surprised how well kept, how big and the variety of stalls this market had to offer. It’s a short walk from Liverpool Street Station. Inside there’s multiple food stalls, ranging from Italian, Indian, Chinese and Mexican. As well as stalls selling a variety of clothing, jewellery and souvenirs. They also have toilets and an array of restaurant available. The prices are standard for London and what you’d expect to pay in a popular market in a Capital city.
Sitting inside the market itself was hard to come by, especially with how busy it was. So I’d suggest, if you’re planning on eating to walk outside the market and use some of the surrounding benches/tables instead as it’s quieter and you’re almost guaranteed a seat.
Overall, would recommend visiting if you’re a big foodie like me, I definitely rate in my top three markets in London along with Borough Market and Camden Market.

A market has existed in Spitalsfields, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, since 1638 (under Charles I of England). At the time, Spittle Fields, which was then a rural area on the eastern outskirts of London, sold meat, poultry and vegetables. Old Spitalfields Market was founded in 1682 during the reign of Charles II of England to feed the growing population (mostly French Huguenots) of this new suburb of London. The current buildings were constructed in 1887 to serve a wholesale market. In 1926, the location expanded west to Steward Street. Nowadays, the daily market brings together a hand-picked selection of traders, artists and artisans, chosen for the quality of their products (fashion, vintage, food, etc.), of responsible origin, as well as for the stories they have to tell. In the center of the market, there are around ten fully equipped kitchens where contemporary and authentic cuisine is showcased by renowned chefs. Old Spitalfields Market is open seven days a week, but is particularly busy on Sundays. The square is superbly landscaped, with numerous sculptures including a series of 20 bronze sculptures scattered outside and inside the market, representing young orphaned elephants (Herd of Hope) and their mother.

Loved the many unique clothes and crafts available here. Enjoyed Mr Bombay’s vegan boxes of dhal, basmati rice and onion bhajis (comes with a samosa and bhaji but I requested 2 bhajis instead) for only £9. Loads of other fish and meat options too. Tables nearby to rest on or benches if seating needed. Adjacent are good Chinese and pasta food vans inside the market so no worries if it’s raining. Lots of other nice places to eat and drink too. Close to Liverpool St station, Petticoat lane Market and the Truman brewery currently showing an amazing Dali exhibition with virtual reality and 3D experiences. Love this place whatever the weather!

We went there for a monthly event - a "tea dance" which was held in a beautiful space located in front of the now defunct "LEON" restaurant between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on a Wednesday, hosted by the very good Covent Garden orchestra ( 9 musicians). There were 3 rows of chairs arranged on 3 sides of the quadrangle in front of the orchestra - which played mainly quick-steps and slow-fox, rumbas and cha-cha. for an audience of senior dancers. At intermission, tea, coffee and biscuits were served (free). Obviously, walkers enjoy seeing the couples evolve. Very nice experience!
Then, we walked through all the aisles of the market - appetizing food shops, absolutely delightful craft, fashion and art stands. We tasted an excellent ice cream specialty in rolls, made before our eyes on a freezing plate.
Outside, the series of bronze sculptures of a family of elephants and the square are worth spending a good time there.

Spitalfields and Shoreditch is a very nice areas of London. The indoor market, although has a long history of being a fruit and vegetable market, is now full of restaurants and funky shops. The area around the market is worth exploring with graffiti art and old alleyways and pubs worth exploring. We went to the market on a weekday, but the time to go is on Sunday when the market is in full swing.

It's great to see this previously Wholesale Fruit & Vegetable Market remodelled and buzzing with energy again. Great selection of pop up's and craft stalls, classy shops and even a fruit stand. I worked in the Market in the 1960's and visited it many times in the mid 50's so it's great to see that it still maintains some of it's original architecture while providing an exciting hub to visit.

Visited on Monday 03rd July 2023 walked around Spitalfields for the first time in circa 25 years. Has changed a bit and developed a lot. Needless to say, the building in the middle of the market's surrounding buildings didn't exist then. There are so many street food vendors and of the 2 I tried the food is amazing. All the other stalls are standard overpriced tourist fare

I lived near Spitalfields Market from 2005-06. Back then shoppers could find bargains and patronize stands hosted by real artisans. Unfortunately, Spitalfields Market has gentrified as did the rest of Shoreditch. Visit if you're in the area and need a quick, expensive bite. Don't visit Spitalfields Market shopping for bargains. You won't find any. I recommend visiting the nearby Brick Lane Market on Sundays instead.

The organisers were quite helpful and accommodating when it came to setting up and promoting each of us on their well-publicised social media accounts. It would be helpful to have a uniformed person hovering by the maet entrances to guide newbies to the correct area as there are two separate market events in the same location. Otherwise, a lovely spot with high footfall.
