Top ways to experience Palace of Westminster
The area
Neighborhood: Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.

    Tour of Speaker’s House.
Had the tour of Speaker’s House. Very informative guide. You visit about 5 rooms fabulously furnished, most overlooking the Thames. Tour geared to UK residents with an interest in politics- prior knowledge of people is really needed to get much from the tour. Lasts just over an hour. Definitely recommend.

    Westminster Palace, guided tour
Well worth a guided tour! The building is amazing. We had a superb guide, Phil Mansfield who was so knowledgeable and had us in fits of giggles with his stories! He made our visit… great to see the rooms that we see on TV and learn about the history of this remarkable palace!

    Outstanding &;interesting
Probably our best guided tour ever anywhere! Phil Mansfield led our group yesterday & shared details & facts & figures about the workings and history of Parliament with our group for 2hrs. He was very professional & amusing & caring & answered all questions promptly & without hesitation & is so knowledgable... He should be on TV's Mastermind! He is a great asset to the Palace of Westminster.

I was overwhelmed by grand history
I was very fortunate to receive an invitation from my friend, who has a relative serving as an MP. As a result, we were treated to a private tour by someone who works there. I am incredibly glad I went. In such a place, you feel overwhelmed by the immense and grand history surrounding you. It was truly inspiring to be in such a location. We also attended the debates, which focused on a heavy and heartbreaking topic. Still, it was fascinating in its own way. P.S. I enjoyed the coffee at the cafe. Surprisingly good coffee for a very reasonable price, especially for London.

Superb tour of the Houses of Parliament
After seeing the Houses of Parliament so many times on the television we took the opportunity during the Easter recess to take a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster to give it the correct name. There are the usual areas which one regularly sees on the TV namely the Commons and Lord’s chambers, but there are so many other unseen areas which were able to be visited on the tour. It’s an amazing place, the artworks, ornate and exquisite decoration and design, and of course it’s history, and we came away hugely impressed with the visit and we highly recommend it. There were two tour options, self guided audio or guided. The guided led tour was not much more expensive but really made the experience so much better, our guide was welcoming, friendly, and very knowledgable. The cafe was really good and surprisingly for London, very reasonably priced, access through security was quick and efficient, although perhaps expected when Parliament is not sitting.

Bucket 'A' List - Value for money
This relaxing audio tour allows you the time and space you need to read, take it all in, and retrace if required. Great value for money and the device is easy to use/understand. Special thanks to Grace who gave me extra info concerning the Robing room, Monarch's enrance, and the Norman Porch.

A truly wonderful experience. Never did I expect to be able to stand next to The Speaker's chair nor at the Dispatch Box and yet, indeed I could.

This was a great insight into much of the workings of the building, with guides who were both knowledgeable of friendly.

Little things now make more sense, for example why the Speaker (or his deputies) will state "The ayes to the right" ..... that's because the ...... well, you'll just have to go to find out for yourself!!

Both my overseas companion and I enjoyed the experience tremendously. As a piece of luck, the Commons Chamber was also being explained to a group by Deputy Speaker Dame Eleanor Laing MP. Wonderful.

We visited Westminster to get a good look at our parliament and how it works, some of the history and when it all started and our tour guide Rebecca (round of applause for her 👏) explained all of this and went above and beyond in making our visit special. We had no trouble with the headphones and we could all hear her very clearly. She walked us through everywhere she could and made the whole thing very interesting!

Unfortunately we could not take pictures of the rooms there except the front two but that wasn’t an issue for us. It actually helped us appreciate the architecture, design and thought that has been put into this amazing place.

Come here if you’re interested in the history and functionings of our parliament!

Currently the Palace of Westminster and the tower with Big Ben are under restoration so you will not be able to see the architecture in its full glory.

That said it is still worth taking a visit. Westminster tube station is opposite the palace and is served by the Jubilee, District and Circle lines. There are also plenty of buses serving the area too.

We booked a Democratic Access tour and were impressed from start to finish. Liz - our tour guide - was absolutely brilliant. She was very knowledgeable and explained everything clearly and in an engaging way. If she hadn't have told us, we wouldn't have guessed it was her first ever tour! We were captivated all the way round. One improvement could be that when we arrived at Westminster Hall, we weren't too sure of where to wait / what to do, and ended up picking up the wrong equipment at first - so some signage for different tours could be helpful. Thanks all for a great afternoon.

I booked well in advance, and my ticket was cancelled a few weeks before the date because of "essential works", whatever those are. The refund came rather quickly.

I squeezed the visit another day that I was in London, and it was all right. The audioguide is a bit dull, but I guess it's more convenient than informative panels, after all, it is a working place.

I recommend waiting until the construction is over to fully appreciate the experience.

My husband and I took a guided tour with Melissa who was wonderful. She has a wealth of knowledge about the Palace of Westminster and was a fantastic communicator. I learnt so much about the history of the palace and the workings of the parliament. I found the whole tour fascinating.

Thought this visit was good value for money. Lasted nearly two hours if you count the visit to the shop. Take the tour as you are guided round and everything explained to you. Can use the Audio tour if you prefer.
