I haven't seen the show in well over 10 years and it blew me away as a grown up as much as it did when I saw it at the age of 10. It was fantastic and i can't recommend it enough for any Disney/Lion King fans of all ages. Just on a side note, be prepared to pay over-odds for snacks and drinks, and also advise on taking toilet breaks just before/after the interval as the queues get quiet long!

Fabulous show which was enjoyed by children and adults. We paid £155 each for our four seats so why oh why do the theatre ask for an additional fee for the child booster seats. Come on people, we saved long and hard for this experience and sadly, this spoiled our visit. I know all theatres need to cover their maintenance costs but the cost of the ticket plus a booking fee should cover expenses surely? I can see that the total cost for a day out to visit any theatre in london is going to be out of most people’s reach, which is a real shame.

Overall this musical is very good. The costumes are fantastic The stage setting is ok, could be better now affects have improved som much over past 20years. Story follows that of the cartoon so ideal for children to.attend. however, this is reason for not giving 5 stars. Price. Wow.. stalls unbelieveable where on earth have families with young children got £118. For the cheapest tickets with a decent view. Family of 4 can work out almost £500 for a 90 min show This is day light robbery. We paid £75. Per seat for end of isle with slightly restricted view had I paid that for children I would have been very upset. This was for stalls Row J seats 6 and 7. Yet all that said ppl did take children I can only say these must be a ove working class families. Would I return not at them prices totally disgusting

In March 2025, with its concluding performances, The Lion King will have run for almost 30 years. One might wonder at such longevity, assuming the stage production to be no more than a re-enactment of the 1994 film. And one would not be more wrong. The opening scene, with elephants in the aisles, the bright costumes, the creative lighting, the live music: all create a sensory sensation that truly is transcendental. A wonderful evening with London theater at its best.

What a superb show. It's great to see an audience with ages ranging from very young to very mature and all enjoying the show equally. Just love this show. The only downside is that the Lyceum Theatres public areas are quite small and quickly get full. The Lion 🦁 King 🤴 is a must-see show for everyone it's great...

The talent in this show is AMAZING!! What I didn't like was the Chippendale show from the hyena's. It was inappropriate for children and my teenaged children spoke out afterwards and said that it made them feel uncomfortable to see slicked up men gyrating on the stage. I had to agree that it was NOT necessary and not appropriate. I am sure many parents were not cool with that portion of the show, since it is supposed to be a children's show. Maybe you could make an X rated show for adults, but please take that portion out of the children's show. Thanks.

Fantastic musical, my 7 year old daughter wanted to see it again as soon as we left the theatre! The only downside was the audience - we went to a matinee which I guess inevitably means more children and a bit more chatter, but there were full grown adults shouting out when some of the characters appeared, as though they’re sitting in their living room shouting at the TV! Also - when did it become a ‘thing’ for people to eat and drink so much during theatre shows? I wish the theatres would have a no food & drink in the auditorium rule (surely that is what the interval is for!?). Or at least not sell crisps and sweets in noisy packets. The rustling of hundreds of these during the show creates a really quite loud, annoying noise which just prevents you being able to immerse yourself in the performance and the music. That said, the musical itself is great, some spectacular scenes with the animals, and anyone who loves the Lion King film will adore it.

We had a really difficult time deciding which West End show to see. We eventually decided on The Lion King - and boy, are we glad we did! The show itself was mesmerizing and beautiful. The talent did a great job and the singing was stupendous -especially Nala and Mufasa! We sat in stall H in an aisle seat and it was a wonderful spot, not too close to the stage and not too far back where you can’t see all the action. We paid extra to sit in the Ambassador Lounge (VIP experience) before the show, during intermission, and afterwards. Totally worth it! You can leave your jackets upstairs and order drinks/ snacks without having to wait in the hectic crowd. Plus you have a private bathroom to use throughout the show! The entire show was just breathtaking and we couldn’t stop talking about it the remainder of our trip! Now we can’t wait to visit London again and see another West End production!

This was our first time seeing The Lion King musical and it truely didn't disappoint. Each of the cast, from youngest to the oldest did an amazing, spellbinding job, their talents shining out to perform beautifully. The music was fantastic and the vocals made you laugh and at times brought a tear to the eye too. I won't hesitate to recommend to everyone and anyone, the journey to London is well worth it!!

Our kids surprised us with tickets to "The Lion King" in London. Initially, I wasn't sure what to expect, but midway through the performance, I was completely captivated. The actors, stage performances, and special effects were all amazing. The show was very well choreographed and included elements of comedy. The only issue was that it had to end! My wife enjoyed every moment and, for once, she didn't fall asleep. Highly recommended—definitely a 10 out of 10 from us.

Great performance ruined by selfish patrons. The singing, dancing, acting, costumes were fabulous but performance was marred by people chatting, people filming and taking photos and selfish parents who brought their underage toddlers along. There’s a reason this show is for 6 years plus, even that is a stretch for some children when it runs till nearly 10pm. Toddler in front of us kicked off, parents came and went interrupting views before deciding to leave in the face of complaints.DON’T BRING YOUNG CHILDREN. They’ll get bored, Kory and complain and you’ll get a ticking off from people who have paid good money to see the show. Wait till your kids are old enough to appreciate it!

I’ve seen a lot of west end shows and sorry to say this one falls short for me. Don’t get me wrong the stage and props are amazing, but I just had the feeling of watching an amateur performance. The dancers were never in time - I mean when you’re watching BGT and they are on it I feel like if they are doing this twice a day and for so long it should be amazing?? They were very noticeably out of time like they hadn’t even practiced. The singing was not the strongest and the switch from American to English accents for both Simbas was odd. It improved when pumbaa and Timon came on (they made the show), but before that I was bored sad to say. Like someone else said the jokes etc feel like you’re watching a panto and the sound wasn’t loud enough. Other people rave about it but the money they are charging for this show and the prestige it holds I think the audience deserves better. Compared to other musicals this is well below par and wish we’d gone to something else :(

This was disappointing. Saw an evening performance with my teenage daughter. We sat at the bottom, a little behind. I had only heard good things, but chose to come with normal expectations as with all musicals I have attended.

Firstly, it was difficult to see the stage because the hall is too flat. You see a lot of people from behind and if you are unlucky you end up behind someone who is tall or has been hiding. Secondly, there were many tired children present, and many cried and complained when the clock ticked towards ten-thirty. I can understand that as it is a family show. Recommend those with small children to go to the show on the day instead.

The costumes and the stage show were, as people say, amazing. Seeing the actors walk by was fun. Scar, Zazu, Timon and Pumba carried the show and the child actors did a great job. I expected more from the other actors. Both adult Simba and adult Nala sang sullenly, and their voices were tame. They were clearly cast for looks and dancing skills, not acting skills and musicality. I had expected more from a musical in London.
The songs written for the musical were boring and lacked the drive of the original songs. It was easy to hear that they did not fit into the original vision of the film.

If you are looking for circus and popcorn, this is the musical for you.

If you want a musical with music performances and a great adult experience, you should rather go to Hamilton or Book of Mormon - or one of the many other wonderful musicals out there.

If people think this is the best show ever i honestly don’t know what we have just watched It was dreadful! The boy playing Simba, while very cute couldn't sing and it was pretty painful. The whole thing felt low rent, low budget and had me falling asleep. The stage sets looked unimaginative and cheap and the dancers were out of time with each other, it was pretty poor. We expected a spectacular show, and stunning effects. It was basically a bad school play performance. We paid alot of money, if it had just been me feeling this I would not be writing this review but the other two in our party also felt the same.

Our first major London show experience in London and one I wouldn’t be in a hurry to repeat!

OK, so the good stuff first. The show is very well produced. The animation, the acting, the singing and stage craft were truly excellent. Faultless.

The negatives. The cost of the tickets (Royal Circle) is expensive. It’s a big outlay for a family visit. The Lyceum is a beautiful historic theatre but with that comes the lack of modern day amenities, notably air conditioning! The place was boiling hot and it’s a real test of endurance to get through the entire show! The toilets are down a load of stairs and the break-out bar areas are small and not really designed to accommodate so many people attending these shows.

The absolute worst aspect of the experience is getting “mugged” during the interval! I purchased 4 small bottles of water and 2 plastic “Lion cups with lids and straws (usual promotional gift tat that many similar venues sell), all for the princely sum of £29!! Absolute disgrace.

Overall, the negatives outweighed the positives.

An absolute disappointment. We had saved up for a special birthday treat but was a waste of our evening! The singing was just poor, the dancing was out of time and the actors just seemed like they didn't even want to be there. Both young and adult Simba simply couldn't sing either. I had such high hopes for this show, I'm unsure whether there has been a cast change/script rewrite but the whole thing was messy, hard to follow and amateur. I also don't appreciate paying £200 + for a pantomime- like show (jokes about Frozen, Primark and DIY SOS)
Sitting so close to the front we could see the performers up close, some looked like they had no idea what they were doing or bored, and the two ladies in white birdlike dresses bumped into each other and were laughing in the end scene; it was just totally unprofessional.
I have been to see many West End Shows and paid significantly less for that have been 10x better than this production.

An overall average experience.

The Ambssador Lounge is not good value for money! Whilst service was fine by Josh, the included snacks (salted crisps) doesn’t really do justice to what was expected. To then pay £45 for a few bags of pretzels, 3 medium popcorns and 2 bottles of water was taking the proverbial!

What made the experience worse though was the lack of attention getting us to our seats after the interval. Along with all other lounge people we were held at the back of the theatre when trying to return to our seats. We were then told it was ok to move, to then be told to stop again. There clearly wasn’t any communication between staff. Tempers were getting frayed with some customers as their frustrations overflowed.

The show itself was good, but not great, with some outstanding costumes, staging and props. Dancing was great, but singing was average, giving the impression it was the understudies being used for the midweek matinee performance. Whilst this is fine, they do have to practise, it does dilute the overall experience.

The Lyceum theatre is old but still fit for purpose, just, although there was a distinct smell in the stairwell between the Ambssador Lounge and Stalls that was akin to a stables! Apparently it’s getting a facelift to celebrate 25 years of hosting the Lion King. This is timely.

This was a bucketlist item for me. I've wanted to go for as long as I remember and finally got a ticket! So excited I made my way to the theatre. Itsays doors open 90 mins before the show. Great, got in but the doorsto the toilets don't open until 60 mins before the show, cue a queue for half an hour and then another long queue for the toilets.
Bar very disorganised, long bar but two people serving and no obvious place to queue so there's a table of 20+ people all trying to get the bartender's attention. Chaos.
Theatre itself is beautiful and seats very comfortable. I sat in the stalls, K13, as knew the stalls were where to be to see the animals all coming down. I wish I'd say in the balcony though as would've been a much better view of not just the animals through the stalls but the stage too.
Multiple audience members taking flash photographs throughout the performance with no scolding from the ushers. The couple in the box where Zazu appears were literally filming it when everyone's eyes were on them! Shameless! They also were filming throughout the performance with their flash on,if you're going to do it at least be subtle! But even though ALL of us in the stalls saw this (very distracting having a bright light in the corner of your vision especially when that usually means there's an 'animal' singing in the box so of course you look) no ushers or staff did anything.
The family behind me talked loudly throughout and ignored death stares. The couple in front of me were talking throughout too, not whispering, talking. It wasn't just them, I've never been in an audience so rude to have a constant ripple of conversation while a performance is happening.

I'm sorry to say but there were only a few actors who were amazing. The cast in general let the show down. No enthusiasm. The acting was awful. The songs were damp. Give actors a chance sure but not when you're charging £130 a ticket and not on such a renowned show, they need to start smaller and work their way up to being in a production such as this.
The show was late starting and late finishing. It says 2.5 hours but I managed to get out of the door at 22:20.

I would not recommend seeing this, especially if you've been waiting to see it then wait a bit longer until they have a better cast and sort their ushers out to actually look after the audience.

This is a fantastic show and production but it was completely ruined by unacceptable audience behaviour that the theatre did not manage at all.

Our family of 5 attended the 19.30 performance, we really enjoy going to the theatre and were very excited about seeing The Lion King and about attending our first West End production together as a family.  I bought tickets for seats in the stalls because I wanted the best experience of the show.  I really can't fault the performance of show, the stage and production quality is amazing but our enjoyment of the show was completely negatively impacted by the audience around us.

People were not seated for the start of the show and the performance did not start on time.  When the performance did start there were a significant number of audience members not in their seats who were lined up along the back of the theatre and down the side and then allowed to make way to their seats during the performance.  There were mobile phones on and people around us talked throughout the performance.  This was all very distracting and really impacted our ability to immerse ourselves in the show.  At one point after the interval someone behind us was actually having a conversation, when my husband tried to ask them to stop talking their response was to speak even more loudly back to him, it was very unpleasant and upsetting.

I have never encountered this audience behaviour in any other theatre, from local amateur productions to the West End or Broadway, and I cannot understand why the theatre management does not do more to manage it better.  I did not hear any announcements informing audience members to take their seats as the show would be starting in "x" minutes, which I would expect as standard practice for any theatre.  An employee did stand at the front with signs that had symbols that are meant to be informative about appropriate behaviour, e.g. cameras and mobiles phones are not allowed, but I could see that audience members were not paying any attention as there was far too much movement and activity going on in the audience for somebody at the front standing silently with a sign to be noticed, and no attention was called to the signs.  I noticed them because I was sitting quietly in my seat watching the stage waiting expectantly for the show to start.

I found the audience's behaviour unacceptable and disrespectful, both to the cast and to other audience members.  I could see that the show has the potential to be spectacular but the audience behaviour stole the magic from it and I wish we had selected a different show.  The cast must be negatively impacted about this too, as it must impact the response of the audience to them.  I don't think people would behave like this in a cinema so I don't understand why they would spend so much money to buy tickets to a West End production and not give it their full attention.  When we got home I searched online reviews as I was wondering if this was unusual and if we had an unfortunate experience, but I saw that it was a common theme in the reviews and that it has obviously failed to be addressed. I should have done more research!

I really regret choosing The Lion King, I will not be recommending it to friends or family, in fact I will advise them to avoid it, as I feel I wasted our money.

I had high hopes for The Lion King, but sadly, it failed to live up to its reputation. To make matters worse, there were two significant breaks during the performance due to technical issues. Each pause disrupted the flow of the show and left the audience sitting awkwardly in silence, breaking any immersion or enjoyment we might have been building.

The lead actors, who are supposed to carry the heart of the story, delivered uninspired and bored-looking performances. Their dancing was particularly underwhelming—lacking energy, coordination, and any sense of the grace or excitement you’d expect from such a high profile production. The costumes and set design are undeniably stunning (if a little tired looking), but it’s hard to appreciate them when the core performance is so lackluster - perhaps the technical issues also got to the performers as well.

Overall, the magic and charm I had anticipated simply weren’t there. For a show with such a big reputation and hefty ticket price, I expected far better. Save your money and your time—there are plenty of other shows in London that offer a much better experience.

Other reviewers have called this aging show a pantomime, and I struggle to disagree with them.
