The area

Neighborhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

London Bridge station was transformed by the recent architectural and engineering refurbishment/redevelopment which makes travelling through it a joy.

It gets top marks here for the difficult task of providing safety measures to those passengers who have to use public transport. Fortunately, the wide expansive public spaces created in the recent refurbishment facilitate this - the old station would have been a nightmare.

London Bridge Railway station underwent a HUGE redevelopment a couple of years ago and now it is very impressive. Previously it had been a cobbled together mish mash of bits added on and now it is quite grand.

There are trains running by South Eastern Trains from Charing Cross and Cannon Street to South East London and Kent. There are also trains run by Thameslink from Cambridge, Peterborough, Bedford & Luton Airport to Brighton, Horsham, Rainham and Gatwick Airport so it is a very busy station!

There are also links to the Tube with the station being served by the Northern Line and Jubilee Line. To get to the main concourse you walk through a lot of arches which have now been adapted to accommodate small shops.

The station has entrances at ground level but as you walk in you can see how high the platforms are above the street with long escalators, staircases and lifts to take you up to get your train.

There are a number of retail outlets on the concourse to get snacks, drinks and some medical items.

Overall the station is easy to navigate and a handy interchange.

London Bridge Station is huge, as it serves the Underground and several other England domestic trains. Hubby and I had an early morning Southeastern train to Hever from London. When we arrived at London Bridge, all of the commuters were arriving into London for work. The literal wall of people who were all in a rush coming towards us was daunting. The signs are difficult to navigate, as we quickly realized that Hever was not a destination because it is a stop to Margate. We learned to ask for help after trying to navigate St. Pancras ourselves. The staff was helpful and told us to look for Margate on the boards in a section we would never have found ourselves. The platform was not shown until 5 minutes before departure! 5 minutes to hurry up a long staircase and get onto the train is terrible timing for leisure travel passengers. The train lines need to take tourists and others not familiar with their system into consideration.

I recommend that if you are not familiar with the station to ask for help early and often. Otherwise, it may boil down to having 5 minutes to find your train.

Beware all tourists and anybody in a hurry do not use the ticket machines just inside the entrance.
They have been set to charge upto 35% more than the ticket price sold by the ticket office on the ground floor.easy to find straight down the escalator. When we asked they said it was to catch tourists and people in a hurry!!!!! Beware.

Went to station toilet with 3months old baby for changed nappy and the nappy changing was closed and out of order. So we were waiting to get in disable toilet to change our baby's nappy. (15.04.2022@8.50pm).

The staff man came and shouting at me and my Mrs. I didn't get why he raised his voice that much. There isn't any need for it. Then he was asking us can't you read English?

The staff not even talk politely. We haven't visit to his home to change nappy.
Very terrible experience.

Station officials should take action against the staff who was working on this time.

Absolutely DISGUSTING STAFF!! Day number 1 - How can you shout at customers who are just looking for directions ??
Day number 2 - How can you shout at the customer when their is a problem with the ticket , funny enough the same day travelling back but in the morning ticket was perfect but on the way back your system is saying my weekly ticket is out of date !!! Don’t just shout at people!!! first check / explain or whatever your job description is ! I would rather travel from Victoria station from now on.

I just hope we won’t need customer service staff at the stations very soon because you think it’s ok to be that rude, shout at customers - seriously should not be allowed around people !

I am elderly and visually impaired and apart from the Platform 5 staff on my return journey, I had more offers of help from passengers than staff. I had to ask the staff on duty at the ticket barriers - who were already busy - for directions and information. I tried the help point machine but it was completely useless. You do not deserve to have any passengers through this station.

I arrived at 9:05 at the ticket office and went to station number 5 to collect my prepaid ticket to Luton airport. The ticket clerk seemed to be bothered by my request of printing me the prepaid ticket and behaved with superiority shouting twice “you are not listening to me, next time you collect it at the machine” in front of other customers and my friend. We left speechless. I believe his name started with B (but I’m not completely sure as it was not a common name). Generally speaking, I don’t believe this is the way employees at the ticket office should treat people. They’re paid to ASSIST, otherwise it’s difficult for me to understand why they are paid for.

Far far better than before. Love this rebuild brand new station. Large space with all the facilitates, big lifts, more escalators, more in out barriers. Neat & clean big station. Most of u can get Southern services as well as Thameslink. There’s more cafes & restaurants around the building. Whatever time is, this station always busy. Beautiful view of Shard building as this station is just under that building.
