'The Shakespeare City Walk' revisits Shakespeare's life on the North bank of the Thames (we do not go to the Globe Theatre because everybody tends to do that separately). If you want to find out about Shakespeare's life (including his friends, relationships etc), while visiting interesting hidden parts of London and seeing statues, monuments etc (many of which are scarcely known), then this is the Tour for you. Even better, your guide, Declan, is a former professional actor and will treat you to some of Shakespeare's speeches in the appropriate locations.

If you are not sure where you want to go in London, the Shakespeare in the City Walk takes you through hidden alleys and passageways that would have been familiar to William Shakespeare. We had a thoroughly interesting tour, listening to all the stories and historic facts as we were guided through the streets, buildings and landmarks and our enthusiastic... More

A fantastic tour around the parts of London tourists don't get to see. Declan was a great and friendly host, whose knowledge and passion for Shakespeare was clear throughout the tour. The walk included details that many wouldn't know existed and enabled fans to experience a history that is not so well known. Declan gives visitors an insight into Shakespeare's... More

A real gem. If you want to find out about Shakespeare as a Londoner, playwright, poet and person then this is the best tour on offer. Declan is a great host: knowledgeable, passionate, fun, engaging and he knows his stuff. Not only do you find out and learn all about Shakespeare in London but you get a fantastic tour around... I had a great time on this walking tour with Declan! He was so knowledgeable and friendly. I've grown up with Shakespeare, so it was amazing to see the original sites of his time. I really enjoyed Declan's performances from Shakespeare's plays and sonnets and chatted with him about his favorite poets. I highly recommend this tour to anyone!

Declan's passion is clear to feel, and makes his knowledge of the subject easier to absorb. An informative, intriguing (at times), enjoyable couple of hours which whet my appetite to want to know more and get researching. I also loved his shakespeare's recitations.

I work with actors often. Declan mixes his professional dramatic skills with his passion for the subject. The effect is a powerful and rich interactive experience.

I would highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to walk in the footsteps of the great Bard and getting some insight into this extraordinary character. There were only three people on my tour so we got the benefit of Declan's full attention. We were transported back 400 years as we visited locations of where Shakespeare lived, heard stories of... It was only my friend and I on the tour, after half term it was clearly a quieter time. In a way it made the tour very tailored to us as acting students and walking between the 'stops' involved chatter about his book, the other tour, actors and current affairs. At the stops the information we were given was concise... More

We liked Declan's passion for Shakespeare. I had just completed my BA with a Shakespeare unit and could not have asked for a better introduction to the Bard's life in London. Thank you Declan! Mr Shakespeare would approve. Liz

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
