    Long uncomfortable journey
Slow journey, much pricier than usual as well (inflated due to rail strikes?), also I'm not sure if some of the roads on the journey were suitable for a full size coach. Very windy country roads around between Loughborough and Nottingham (don't know if there was a diversion or not), but journey did not feel as comfortable as in the past.

Great if the bus is on time.
This is an inexpensive way to get from London Heathrow to Southhampton however our us never showed up. It was due around 11:00 AM and everyone I would ask about it being late had a different answer of me, such as it must be traffic, it will be here in 1 hour, it will be 20 minutes etc. No annoucnemtn was made, so if this makes you anxious, you might to arrange more dependable transport. A bus showed up over 2 hours late and that's when the announcement was made. We never did find out what happened as they pulled another driver off his route to get us there. Once we arrived at the the Southampton bus terminal there were taxi's available to take us to the port, hotel etc and the small building has free wifi if you wish to call Uber. It was easy to order on line and I paid a little extra for reserved seats and a specific time. I do not know if my experience was a rarity or common event but I would maybe try them again.

    Fix your coaches
The last three times I've been on a National Express coach from Manchester to London, the toilet has been in some way out of order. This is so unacceptable for a five hour journey. National Express, fix your coaches please. Right now I am sitting on a 5 hour coach with no toilet and no way to charge any of my devices, there is just no need. Its embarrassing.

    Why change route
I used to use this coach company regularly but since they changed from Birmingham drop off to London I haven't as go to Swindon to visit family. Now I bypass Swindon on the way to London only to come back the way I came. So I don't understand the change. As Birmingham is more central

Uncertain if I am a National Express fan
I recently took the bus from Cardiff to Heathrow. It is certainly an affordable option when compared to the train and it is lovely to have luggage stored in the hold underneath the bus. My seat belt did not work properly - was almost always locked in a very tight position. The seats were not comfortable for a long trip. The driver seemed to be having a bad day and I heard him speak sharply to a couple of passengers when I didn't think the passengers' comment were out of line. I don't know if the floor had been swept for a bit. On the plus side, the washroom was clean and we stayed on schedule.

    Reliable, Reasonable and Relaxing
There’s always been a slight stigma about coach travel in the UK but there shouldn’t be. Talking a coach from the West Country to London is comfortable and relaxing. With the train the only public alternative, there is no comparison except, of course, in terms of speed. If you’d rather not endure eye watering prices, back breaking seating, stark lighting, vile interiors and almost daily late, cancelled or compromised services (“permachaos” is a word I’ve just patented for GWR) then take National Express.

    Just disappointed
I will be really honest they were amazing when I was going to university like 4 years ago. But now they left me stranded. Can't refund tickets if things go wrong and they have more than once now and they never reply to complaints, they just leave you hanging you are best off getting the train or driving to wherever you need to be. Very disappointed. And they arrived late this time so I was threating over getting a bus or whether it had been cancelled and there was no communication.

Zero sars is more to the point!
I had a journey booked with NE for 12:15 , but after 40 min standing there without any information when driver will show up I had to book a taxi and pay extortionate amount of money - £147 and just barely made my flight! I was flying from Luton Airport at 16.40, gate closes at 16:05 with the luggage to check in. If your bus driver would of made it on time, my scheduled journey arrival time would of been at 14.30, but with all the waiting around etc, I only just made it to the airport for 15:00.
We were told that driver was late for his shift (probably hangover after Christmas!!) and therefore he was having his lunch break for 45 min.
This is not a regular bus journey that people are booking to travel from one stop to another, this is an airport transfer, so mine and many more flights were at stake because of someone's unprofessional behaviour.
Customer assistance staff member was saying that we all should definitely complain because this type of thing is happening all the time and no one cares!?
Beyond belief, how terrible your service were and how much money this journey cost me, I am looking forward seeing a refund of £173.90.
This is a friendly email for now, but I feel that this type of story would strike an interest of BBC Watchdog or Financial Times for sure, I mean you recon foreign people don't complain, and they just forget about all issues you put them through?!

I witnessed racism from a Glaswegian driver to a member of the public. Absolutely disgraced I was treated differently to this woman for the Ned of an email, I can only assume that the lack of customer service was due to skin colour as that all that was different between us. Ironically the only person who has represented your company to a high standard, in Victoria bus station was black.
On the way down the driver's had discrepancies over my tickets, the bus was over booked, after Manchester there were people doubled in seats from different households.
I then went from the 181 to 400 service and due to overbooking had a mask less passenger beside me.
On returning from London the bus was cancelled causing a 3 hour delay and change of destination incurring further cost.

Taking into account Covid this is still the WORST travel company I have ever delt with!
Racism?
Really?
Wrong type of national express...

The return ticket between Bournemouth and London only cost approximately £20.00. However you get what you pay for. Seat leg room only sufficient for persons measuring under 5 feet 8 inches tall (even though coach was half empty). Toilet stinks. Fellow pleb passengers talking loudly, eating and leaving their trash everywhere. Low ticket price does however facilitate the movement of the plebs around the country.

My daughter and I went to London on the 8th October. We had this planned for her 13th birthday- she was really excited for her first trip to London. The train cost was £144, so I purchased tickets with NE, for £45.87 as I used my student discount. Bargain I thought!
I had originally booked the 15th October but due to personal circumstance, I had to amend my booking to the 8th. I logged into my NE account where it said I would be charged £5 to amend my booking- this was fine, so I changed it to the 8th. To my shock and horror, NE took an additional £50.87!
My first point is- why do you charge customers £5 amendment fee on top of charging them AGAIN! It would have been cheaper for me to have purchased the tickets on a separate booking, where I could have also used my student discount. I think this is a con!
To add insult to injury, our trip home was awful. The bus was delayed by an hour at Victoria. NE staff treated us like animals at a zoo. Shouting at us, not updating us on expected times, just shouting that “there is a delay”. A this point we was all squashed against the door (gate) for over an hour! By the point our bus arrived we were thirsty. I asked a member of staff if my daughter (a child) could please have some water as we faced a 4 hour journey home, to which I was told no.
My argument is that had we been told at the gate, that the bus was expected to be around an hour late, we could have then decided to leave the gate and purchase water from the shop. But we were left squashed like sardines with no expectation of when the bus would turn up, it could be at any minute so didn’t want to risk missing it.
To deny a child water is quite frankly a disgrace in this day and age.
I have emailed my complaint in, I have given them the 14 days to reply and I haven’t heard anything.
I have attempted to contact them by phone but after 45 minutes waiting, I have given up.
I will NEVER use National Express again!

We bought the coach tickets well in advance of the BlueDot festival in Macclesfield and the service we received was very poor. It was 40 minutes to 1 hour late turning up to take us to BlueDot; as we got on, the driver asked us if we were going to Southport like he had no clue where he was supposed to be driving us to. No explanation was provided as to why he was so late. On the journey back, the driver was extremely late again, and didn't turn up until 1:20am, leaving a queue of people none the wiser with how they were going to get home if the driver wasn't going to turn up. The staff at the festival were brilliant in staying with us and informing us of what was happening. Really poor service from National Express, who clearly knew about the journey in advance so should have been more prepared.

I wouldn't normally review a UK bus company but I have to say how impressed I was with how they are operating in the current virus situation. Good people control, messaging, temperature checks, seat allocations, on board information, PPE for staff, etc.

Really good to see and so much better than on buses and trains in London.

We booked a trip from London to Southampton to catch a cruise ship. Covid put an end to that. When we contacted the company to cancel booking and ask for a refund, our request was refused with the comment, They would still be operating the service. We are in Australia and cannot leave the country for international travel and the cruise was cancelled in May. It is not our fault we cannot get to London to take the coach. National Express has been the ONLY company not to refund bookings because of Covid restrictions and we had bookings for travel, accommodation and tours from London to Singapore.

I was booked on the 1740 from Heathrow to Gatwick on 25th August (the last 5 digits of my booking reference are 6268C). The bus turned up half an hour late, and then refused to take any passengers. The bus driver even had the cheek to try and claim he was nothing to do with National Express, despite the fact he had National Express AND Gatwick AND NX 025 stuck to his windscreen. The Gatwick manager who ran the bus strand tried to intervene on our behalf but the bus driver refused to budge. He disembarked the passengers he had and drove off empty. We had to wait another half an hour for 1835. Won’t use National Express again, I’ll use AirLink in future.

The bus never came. It was suppose to be at Brighton Withdean park at 22:45-22:55. We waved at every passing bus with no luck, and finally gave up at 00:30 when suddenly the coach tracker said the bus was already in Gatwick?? No National Express bus had gone by us.
We had to take a taxi, then a train and then an Underground to get to the Heathrow airport on time and we had to depend on strangers to help us. Wasted so much more money and time, and no one answered from National Express for our calls.

This whole night gave me such panic attacks that I am really thinking I will never come to UK again and I will keep telling everyone to avoid National Express.
We were sold these tickets as a safe way to travel, and we ended up witnessing two fights in a train we were never suppose be in. I do not feel safe here at all. People actually ended up in hospital after the fights

I should have read the reviews about this company before I left because no one else seems to recommend you either

Bear with me for a fully detailed review. I missed my journey to Leicester from Golders Green due to issues on the underground. I attempted to book my journey, but the system indicated that all seats were booked. After waiting for 2 hours to express my situation and inquire if any passengers had missed or canceled their journeys, the next bus arrived. I explained my predicament, but unfortunately, there was no availability for the next journey.

The driver attentively listened to my situation, checked my previous tickets and travel history (approximately 12-15 journeys I've made over the last 2 months), and then a kind gesture occurred. An angelic moment emerged through the driver, who allowed me to board the bus. While today's experience left me frustrated and words could hardly capture my feelings, my journey with EMR trains was profoundly exasperating. Despite having email tickets (rather than physical ones), I was denied the opportunity to sit on the train. I was compelled to purchase new tickets, which eventually cost me three times the original fare.

This experience reaffirms why I consistently recommend choosing National Express over EMR trains. The EMR staff's behavior was significantly lacking, and I urge fellow passengers to direct their business towards National Express, not EMR trains. I'd also like to mention that I encountered a commendable bus driver during this ordeal. Although I don't have his name, he was a disabled driver with limited arm mobility, yet he displayed exceptional skill and kindness.

I applaud the exceptional customer service provided by National Express and all their drivers.
