Camden Town, located in the north-east part of London, has long been a very popular destination for Londoners and tourists looking for shopping, good restaurants (very varied international cuisine) as well as for its nightlife (bars, pubs and nightclubs). Oriented north-south, with a length of 900 m, Camden High Street, the main street of the district, is no exception to this rule. But it is above all the eccentric 3D and very colorful signs which decorate the facades of its businesses which distinguish this commercial street from the other markets in the area, but particularly from the rest of London which displays a style, let us say, rather classic. We only have to think of the giant dragon adorning the front of the Max Orient Chinese restaurant, the giant shoes decorating the facades of many shoe stores, the elephant above the Namaste, a store selling products from India. There are also several murals there. A real open-air Pop Art museum.

I traveled this route with my girlfriend during a holiday in London. This is the road that connects Camden Town tube station to the market hall. Here you can find buildings with colorful facades and three-dimensional decorations such as shoes or animals. There are many shops of various kinds. This street is a point of interest not to be missed when visiting this alternative neighborhood.

a picturesque neighborhood with rock and punk features, you can also find good food in the local market, there is a statue of amy winehouse in the market. There are also places where she used to visit. It is a place where they can also see London souvenirs and eye-catching items at a convenient price.

What on Earth has happened to the place? I used to visit here with friends a lot around 25 years ago. It was hip and cool with loads of second hand clothes stalls in the stable courtyard and cheap world food to be eaten on the move. Now all the stalls are in purpose built pods where the rents have obviously pushed prices through the roof. Maybe a victim of the Health and Safety culture or just greed? Who knows. But trust me on this one; it is a shadow of its former self and no longer has the same chilled vibe.
Shame.
Shame.

Camden Town is a suburb in London. The main road going through the area is Camden High Street. It stretches in the South from Mornington Crescent tube station heading north past Camden Town tube station and over Regent's Canal to Chalk Farm tube station.
The area south of Camden Town is just like a busy High Street with your usual stores like Tesco, Poundland, Lidl, Argos, charity shops, cafes, pubs and phone shops.
Heading in the opposite direction is more colourful with some cool shops selling clothes, shoes, music and much more.
The area around Camden Lock has some great bars and restaurants and there is the market with has some excellent stores.
It's an area that is a real melting pot and a must visit for anyone who loves things that are a bit different or quirky.

Camden was one of the areas we wanted to check out this trip that we didn't get to the last time in London. High Street was packed on a Friday afternoon, but the colors and interesting people were something to see. I didn't take nearly the amount of pictures that I would have liked to. It was a fun area that you should check out, but be aware of the possible crowds (August).

A very cool place to visit if you are a new visitor to London it's easy to get if you are using the tube. The main high street as so many shops to browse and a market at the top with bars and restaurants a plenty you will be spoilt for choice... Every time i visit i eat at different places just so many awesome food choices to choose from. The street does get busy with crowds but it's Camden so it's to be expected.

We visit Camden frequently and we enjoy our time there. It is always so busy, don't matter when you go its always has a very vibrant atmosphere there. There are lots of shops on the high street, I must admit it has changed a little since we started going there but that is the same for most high streets. You have plenty of places to drink and eat and of course the stables and market are just off of the high street. It's great just looking at everyone going past as no one is the same and you see some great fashion and characters.

As a punk rock fan, I thought this street would be cool. Instead, it was the opposite. Most of the "shops" are souvenir stores run by very pushy store owners.
The crowds are unbearable. I was almost run over strollers a few times. If you have ever been to vintage store in your own town, then you will see what they sell here is not unique.
I didnt see any "street art" . The Only "art" was on store fronts. Sure, some of them were cool, but they are for commercial use....so not "street art".

I've come into Camden Town many times over the years and of course walked along Camden High Street. It's become increasingly touristy, although in some ways that's a complement. The last time I came was 3 years ago and it's still a great place to be with it eclectic collection of shops and markets. Some of the shops have amazing sculptures as part of their facades. As other reviewers have commented, some of the prices now rival central London.
Still great shopping place though.
