About Tarporley
'Tarporley' is a 1937 working boat which has been converted and run in London as Camden’s community narrowboat for over thirty years. Skippered cruises on 'Tarporley' are available to all groups from charities, clubs and schools to businesses and private parties (we can take a maximum of 12 people). So that we can continue to meet our costs, and make Tarporley available to disadvantaged groups and others all year round, the hire-fees for private bookings are higher, effectively subsidising customers from community groups. N. B. Tarporley is an historic vessel; she can only be handled safely with skill and experience, and she is therefore not available to hire on a self-steer basis, so why not let us show you

A 4 mph relaxing cruise along London's Regent's Canal - a chance to steer an historic canal boat and work locks if you want. We had a great time - we brought our own food and drink - they have a stove, oven fridge and microwave. - but we could have gone to a restaurant or pub too. We had a family & friends outing past little venice, but it would be great just with friends, work mates, community groups (they say they will take disadvantaged groups for nothing at all!)

We booked the Tarporley for my Son's 30th Birthday . This 1937 Canal boat is run by a charity, the Camden Canals and Narrow boat association, who operate out of moorings behind 90 York Way. This area has been subject to a vast amount of recent regeneration, what was at one time a dingy and dangerous spot with a dubious reputation is now all shiny and new. The whole party some of whom have been londoners for years were very pleasantly suprised at the location and the canal boat. The Tarporley is a jolly bright pre war narrow boat with room for parties of up to 12, it is complete with a fully equipped galley. We booked it for a 6 hour cruise to little Venice and back and brought our own food and drink. The crew of 3 volunteers were wonderful and the more agile of the party helped navigate the locks along the way. Lots of fun with surprising views of familiar places including the Regents Park Zoo and Kings cross station. Lots of unknown tunnels bridges and locks I never knew existed. We ate our food in the park at little Venice with the barge and canal clearly visible and home in time for tea. Birthday boy was overawed he got to steer the 72 foot barge and it was a great day out for all. Recommended fun and a great way to see hidden bits of London.
