Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park offers everyone a breathing space in the heart of East London. This woodland cemetery is a unique place of transformation: a people's cemetery, a place for remembrance, a sanctuary for humans as well as nature, a place for festivals, field studies and forest schools. Always changing with the seasons, it is rooted in the history of the East End, a place of rich heritage that is full of possibilities and freedom for all.

Peaceful, overgrown, loads of plant life growing wild over old gravestones, many of them tumbled down, abundant insect and bird life. A wonderful place to escape to walk, observe, meditate.

What a wonderfully peaceful and charming space to spend a morning contemplating nature and the meaning of life. The many thousands of gravestones of all types and sizes throng the undergrowth amongst cow parsley, wild garlic, nettles and all kinds of wild flowers, while butterflies...More

The cemetery is always so peaceful and perfect, resembling something out of s film set but right in the heart of busy Bow. Overgrown in places and enchanting. You could be anywhere. Some great photo opportunities always present themselves, especially in winter. A real idyll.

When I lived in London many years ago I enjoyed wandering around Highgate Cemetery (in the days when one could do that without paying an entry fee) and Brompton Cemetery from time to time. These are two of the Magnificent Seven London cemeteries built between...More

More a wildlife park than a cemetery, more a place for a naturalist than a lover of cemeteries. The website of the Friends of the Tower Hamlet Cemetery provides a lot of useful information on the wildlife that inhabits the park/cemetery. It is used for...More

A delightful place to spend a couple of hours wandering about or sitting on a bench in the sun. It just needs better signposting - I'm sure this could be done sensitively.

Every time we visit our daughter in Bow, we come for a walk in Tower Hamlets Cemetery. Wild, overgrown, but managed, it achieves a great balance between being out of control and manicured. It is lovely walking along the paths at any time of year...More

We live in the area and use the place regularly, almost daily in the summer. Wish they'd stop chopping bits of it down. Not sure it needs all the tidying up. Agree it's great to make it accessible for schools and activities etc but feel...More
