The area
Address
Neighborhood: City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
How to get there
  • St. Paul's • 4 min walk
  • Barbican • 4 min walk

So we've had lock down for over God know s how many months and so when the Gym re -opens you expect everything to be working. The over jet water flumes are a real treat when they work in the Angel gym. I initially froze my membership after lockdown and thought i'd wait until classes resume..it didn't make sense paying large sum every month for only the gym floor and swimming when I usually only do classes, and have no reduction in my membership... My point is that the water jets in the jacuzzi are frequently breaking down and the excuse is they're waiting for a pump. The timer on the jacuzzi is also a issue as it is now set to come on more infrequently than it did before and they have removed most of the panels in the jacuzzi which start the jacuzzi water motion. Ive been a member for about 15 years so when things break down such as the the water jet streams and then I have to wait weeks and sometimes months for them to be repaired I find it very frustrating....Lockdown has made many people rethink about their gym memberships and I may follow in pursuit if I feel my membership is not valued.

I have been a member of the Chelsea Club for nearly 30 years and visited yesterday as usual. At reception I asked for n extra towel ( having had 3) as I need them when I shower due to the club being so cold. A receptionist and a PT both told me I could only have two and that I had 3 when I walked in, which caused me a great deal of embarrassment in front of other members and it ruined my enjoyment of my club visit. I reported the incident to Customer Services and was disappointed that they were uninterested.

Helpful Staff

There was a bit of a problem with joining my daughter, the staff were helpful especially Connor who dealt with it professionally and was very nice to deal with. Wish more receptionists were as helpful 5 stars.

Hit and miss
Feb 2018 • Friends
This is a pretty good gym facilities-wise, with a great pool area and modern equipment. The problems are - limited opening times (10am at the weekends, with people always waiting around outside, and 5pm cafe closure with gym closure 6pm; better during the week but still not late night access), and poor hygiene rules (barefoot is very common, on equipment!). These are things that might be OK if it were a mid price gym but for the high price it doesn’t really deliver.

Islington - Angel

Been a member of Angel for years but Angel is really going downhill. Nobody takes the weights back and they are strewn everywhere (despite the pathetic little sign), the dreadful pop disco music booming out everywhere is direct from a Marbella hen-night disco (or a 13 year old girls party playlist, take your pick). They spent a fortune overhauling the excellent steam room and now the new fancy crushed ice dispenser doesn't work and its smaller than the old one. Barbican is much much better.
