Not long after moving to nearby Walerand Rd at the end of January I soon discovered this absolute gem.
Even though at that time I was enduring a bit of a mental car crash, the distraction of not feeling so isolated was welcome.
Since then I have so warmed to everything about this pub.
The atmosphere is priceless, the crowd is diverse and friendly, the bar staff are fab & when Lisa dishes up free grub, well if I went to a restaurant this would get a five star review!
The pool table takes centre stage & is very popular with regular tournaments = free grub! Dart board teams, juke box, spacious beer garden, resident woof woof & cat, damn reasonable bar prices, regular events including karaoke & dj’s, quirky interesting decor an open fire.
Also unlike Weatherspoons in Lewisham delighted that I can sup a pint in my bare feet, which is a full time lifestyle choice.
What more could one ask for? The Anchor deserves more recognition & should be known as a ‘destination.’

Looks like a tourist trap, but it's a real jewelry box. We almost didn't stop there at all, which would have been a big mistake. We got a place on the roof terrace on a wonderful sunny day, mega view. The food was delicious and quick, but the very best was the Coke. My son and I quickly agreed that this was the best Coke on the planet. No kidding! The food is classic pub food but freshly prepared and lovingly made. But not so expensive. We never thought we would be so convinced. The anchor also has an interesting story, if you're interested. We were on fire.

Popped in here after getting off the whilst working away in London. It's a proper local friendly, down to Earth people. Very reasonable prices. Have revisited on a number of occasions to break my journey up. Good place to chill, and was even given a free bowl of beef stew and bread, which was much appreciated at the time.
