The area
Address
Neighborhood: City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

Memorial for Child Refugees
Oct 2021
This memorial commemorates the arrival of mostly Jewish children escaping Nazi occupied Europe. Children were sent all over the world for their safety, but this was specifically in gratitude for the United Kingdom taking in 10,000 of the children. One can only imagine how frightened the children must have been to face the double horror of war and separation form their families.

Reminder
Jun 2020
The Kindertransport memorial is just at the entrance to Liverpool Street station that is above the London Underground station. There is a MacDonalds right next to the square so hopefully this will help you to locate it.

It is a powerful reminder of the amazing work that wqs made by people to get children out of Nazi occupied Europe so they could have a future.

Never forget.

Lovely statue
Oct 2019 • Solo
A lovely statue commemorating the good work of some, saving lives of mainly Jewish children. Just outside Liverpool Street station.

I cannot comprehend the persecution and how awful things must have been for parents to feel their only option was to put their child onto a train and send them off, maybe never to see them again.

Stirring reminder of a triumph over evil
Oct 2019 • Solo
This is an outdoor memorial sculpture by Franz Meisler to the 10,000 orphaned Jewish children who escaped Nazi persecution in Central Europe arriving in Liverpool Street station in 1938-9. The memorial commissioned by World Jewish Relief and the Association of Jewish Refugees was installed in September 2006.

The Kindertransport memorial commemorates the organised rescue effort to evacuation children from Central Europe by transporting them to safer countries. Most of the children transported were predominately Jewish children, thereby saving them from a terrible fate under soon to be Nazi occupation. This memorial was specifically in gratitude for the United Kingdom taking in 10,000 of the children.

It stands as a reminder to all of us of the horrors of war that continues to take place around the world and of the people who need our help.

Beautiful
Aug 2018 • Solo
This tiny memorial is located close to the underground station entrance and is easily missed. It is of a boy, a girl and a suitcase and is very poignant.

Moving

A moving monument close to Liverpool Street Station. Others have said what it represents but when visiting you feel sadness for the circumstances that led up to the event but also happiness for those lucky enough to have arrived here.
Well worth a look.
