About
Indaba means ‘gathering’. Perfectly located in Central London, we’ve gathered a wide range of the city’s most talented teachers and built a community of yogis. In the welcoming atmosphere of this beautiful space we’ve created what we believe is the ultimate yoga studio!

Address
Neighborhood: Marylebone
Marylebone offers what so many London neighborhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.
How to get there
  • Marylebone • 1 min walk
  • Edgware Road • 5 min walk

Under New Mangement
Jul 2020
I have been going to this yoga studio for 6 years. What made this studio special was that the high level of yoga from both practitioners and teachers. The studio was also friendly and had a wonderful atmosphere. The studio is now under new management. At the beginning of lockdown, they canceled everyone's monthly memberships with no explanation as they realized that they could make so much more money by exploiting the COVID situation and treble their income by charging per class instead of a flat monthly payment. No other yoga studio did this. This meant that people like me could not afford to practice with them at a time when we needed yoga most. When the studio reopened- they suddenly sent out an email saying that they were going to start taking monthly payments again when they failed to sell enough individual class passes for the re-opening. After 3 days of me sending emails and not getting a response- also their phone wasn't working, I returned to find the rudest women on the desk- she did not welcome me back but instead was aggressive and would not let me practice until I purchased an additional £2 shoe bag in which I refused and she told me that I had to leave. On top of this, they have had no contact with some of their teachers who lost their classes due to the studio being shut for COVID and just rehired the "star" teachers where they can make a lot more money. The beautiful friendly community vibe of Indaba has gone and the new management are cold and aggressive. I will be joining another studio and will never go back to Indaba.

Welcoming environment, great teachers
Oct 2019 • Solo
Indaba is a very good studio that offers high level yoga taught by great teachers. People in the reception are incredibly welcoming.

If you prefer a calmer environment you should avoid the evening classes and chose an afternoon or morning class with fever students. I attended a short YTT that was not over crowded, although the workshop was very busy.

The one negative thing I have to say is that the ventilation system sucks, it can be quite humid and sweaty during class.

Lovely ambience. Free tea.
May 2019 • Friends
If you want to be methodical about it, as a complete beginner you might be better off starting with one of the courses on Mon or Wed eve and then go for sampling an array of classes on the £30 for a month/try as many classes as you like.
The reception service varies from friendly to neutral. The teachers are uniformly good but I might single out Sabina Ahmadov as having a particularly good vibe. Even in quite busy classes I felt she was careful at showing individual attention to people. Added benefit that her class doesn't incorporate music.

High standards of teaching
Apr 2018 • Solo
This is one of my favourite London yoga studio.
The level of the teacher is kept very high.
This doesn't mean you need to be an advanced yogi to practice at Indaba, on the contrary, it will be especially beneficial for a beginner to start under the guidance of a good teacher.
The rooms are spacious and bright, high ceilings, lovely wooden floors.
Mats are provided, all sorts of props too.
All you would expect from a top studio.

Workshops- squashed in like cattle!
Jul 2018 • Solo
Although I like Indaba studio and the staff are very polite, I agree with one of the other comments about the workshops. I came down from the Midlands to the Dylan Werner workshop last week - Indaba does get some excellent teachers - but we were squashed in so close together you had no room to try new poses. Other students who were going for it whatever, ended up with their legs and feet sticking in my face or intruding well into my mat space - which was no fault of their own. I estimated there was around 70+ people in the room, which was way too many. I rather felt that Indaba was so focused on getting as much money as possible that they forgot to look after their customers wellbeing. I really didnt feel like I was at a yoga venue with a calm yogic atmosphere - even if the class was a challenging one - it felt more like a sweaty gym. Is this really how Indaba wants to be represented? Unfortunately, if the workshop sizes dont change, this will be my last trip to the studio :(

Excellent Hot Yoga in Marlebone
Jun 2018 • Solo
I stayed at an air b&b right near this studio. I’m so happy I did. I attended a few Hot Yoga classes while I was in London. I especially loved Amanda and Stevie’s classes. They were both different in their own ways but equally incredible. The studio is clean. The yoga mats are complementary. The women’s locker room had showers and lockers. One wonderful part was there was also complimentary tea and many people stay and had a cup together after class. I will definitely go back again on my next visit to London.

Welcoming London studio
Aug 2017 • Solo
It's hard to find a welcoming yoga class in London that has a bright, spacious studio, friendly teachers, a welcoming reception and that isn't too expensive - but Indaba has it all! I am so pleased this studio was recommended to me and I would highly recommend Shimmy's classes.
