Address
Neighborhood: Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
How to get there
  • Embankment • 2 min walk
  • Charing Cross • 4 min walk

Nice bar, quirky location
Nov 2021
Unusual location and a good selections of wines and food (mainly cheeses and charcuterie). We were advised to get there early (by 5 pm) in order to get a table, so I'm guessing it's always pretty busy.

Great atmosphere - disappointing food menu
Nov 2021 • Couples
The atmosphere is as magical as ever, but be aware that they do not serve any hot food!
We made a first post-Covid return visit and there have been some significant changes. The toilets have been modernised and the bar area has been made more user friendly , but the main change has been the removal of the buffet - style hot food area. This used to provide a tasty selection of chicken, steaks and casseroles but that has now gone. The food menu now consists of cold delicatessen food - salamis, ham, smoked salmon and cheese. Lots of cheese!
The wine list is still superb; so a great place for a drink, but probably not for food!

Outrageous drinks service charge annoying
Nov 2021 • Friends
The staff are friendly, and it does as always have this lovely atmosphere and vibe about it. We sat outside for a bit as there are heaters, and cover but it did get chilly so we managed to get a table inside. My only criticism is the service charge, including when you buy drinks only. Two bottles of wine £80, service charge was on top, around £9. All they did was literally walk the wine to the table, put it down with glasses and walked off. It’s not shown as optional, and they add it on before checking you want to pay it, so it’s a bit of a flaff by that point if you want it removed. Seems to be the new practice up town as had same experience in a few bars post lockdown. So be warned the more expensive your drink the more service charge they add on. serving me the drink I ordered should not come with a charge, let the customer decide if they want to tip for drinks or let me go to the bar and get it myself

Great to be back!

Excellent as always. The new seating outside really works. Staff are amazing as always and great to see familiar faces, all smiles and proving great service. Cheese boards are excellent. As for the wines, well they’re exactly why you go to Gordon’s.

Aggressive staff at closing time
Aug 2021 • Couples
Arrived at 11:00am and we were greeted with aggressive staff telling us they were closing. Of course this would have been OK, but they forced our friend through one door away from us, and forced us through another whilst almost shouting for people to get out. We understand that you want to go home but a bit of decency isn't too much to ask for!

Hidden gem 💎
Aug 2021 • Couples
A friend recommended this bar and it was perfect. My partner and I sat outside with a bottle of wine and cheese platter and we loved it. An amazing place with seating in old cellars excellent wines (though I am no expert) and a great selection of cheeses. It does get very busy but will definitely go again.

Different but still good
Aug 2021 • Couples
We have visited here many times but not since Lockdown in March 2020, until today. Things have changed! There are lovely new toilets for a start. It was not as busy as we have experienced in the past. No buffet salad bar. Table service only. Printed menus. We had a 3 cheese platter with extra bread, plenty between two people. Also a nice bottle of Malbec and two glasses of house tawny port. All very nice. However, we missed the barrels of Port which used to he behind the bar, which you could previously choose your port from. Now it seems only one on offer by the glass, the rest by bottle only. The atmosphere wasn't quite the same somehow. We were over charged twice and had to have a refund the first time as we didn't notice before we had paid by contactless card. 10% is added automatically as a service charge, but the first incident was 100% over! So be careful when you pay. Overall we really enjoyed the experience despite it being a bit different.

Cheese ecstasy
Jun 2021
My partner was in cheese ecstasy. We ordered two of the three cheese - cheeseboards and wine- they are so filling . We sat inside which is really cool - albeit less ideal for anyone claustrophobic . But it was a lovely atmosphere. Staff were helpful and will happily offer recommendations, which were spot on. Had a bit of a wait to get in - but it was well worth it.
