The Pilgrim and the Mongrel
Mar 2019 • Solo
James Freeman’s is a long-established gallery in a prominent position in Islington’s Upper Street which rather comes into its own during the London Art Fair held in the Business Design Centre opposite every January as a sort of external curtain raiser for the show proper. Today it celebrates the art of Simone Pellegrini whose surname suggests Pilgrim and Douglas McDougall surely some mongrel son of the celebrated Magic Roundabout cartoon mongrel. Pellegrini creates delicate collages reminiscent in my mind at least of Elisabeth Blackadder; MacDougal using pulp and burnt wood what look like photographs of arctic outcasts. All a bit odd; a bit visionary; thoroughly chilly.

A find
Nov 2018 • Solo
A very nice gallery with an interesting program including ceramics. The shows are changing regularly - every 4 /5 weeks. I love to pop in when I am in the area and the staff is very friendly and gives helpful explanations - if asked.

Small, intimate gallery
Jul 2017 • Solo
The gallery itself is quite small. I visited the Alexia Sinclair exhibition. I would have liked to see more of her prints but those that were shown were fantastic. They were well presented. Had there been more people at the same time, it would have easily crowded.

Anyway, nice intimate gallery in Islington.

Contemporary art dealer based in Islington

I found this art gallery by accident when out and about in Islington. It's located in Upper Street just a short walk from Angel Station.

The exhibitions are of contemporary paintings, photographs and sculpture. The focus is upon artists from Europe and Asia, and the works are described as "a combination of current tendencies with art historical reference and exploration".

When I visited there was an exhibition of works by Suzanne Moxley and Nicolas Freytag titled "Hinterlands and Pleasure". As described in the narrative accompanying the paintings, the images presented are of places where "civilisation has fallen into disrepair", presenting buildings that are "decrepit, construction fractured and light sources illogical".
