Cathedral of the East End
Apr 2016 • Friends
Dubbed the 'cathedral of the East End' this magnificent church once regularly hosted 2,000 worshippers at its Sunday services. It boasts a stunning reredos and a chancel incorporating choir stalls a wonderful organ and splendid architectural detail. The church was once twinned with St Bartholomew's another church a few streets away which closed when the two parishes merged in 1953 and subsequently demolished in the 1970's. Arguably the grander of the two St Mark's continues to stand proud its bell tower featuring a turret barometer. Dalston is off the tourist beaten track but from here some other interesting features of the East End can be easily explored.
