The area
Address
Neighborhood: Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.

Amazing menu, a little gem 💎
Aug 2020 • Couples
Never have I been disappointed by the high standards of quality, service and varied selection of amazing food. This little cafe is truly a little gem 💎 Usually it is highly busy and there's a waiting list for tables, but of course due to these unusual Covid times this part of London is sadly like walking around on a Sunday afternoon in 1980s (bringing back lots of lovely memories for me, but not so good for struggling independent shops). So if you've never ventured in this cafe, this is the time...all their food is deliciously handmade, the menu is beautifully small and stunningly put together, the chef talently combines unusual ingredients together - and I've never yet been disappointed.

Sadly of course my visit during Covid times resulted in strict social distancing (being weekend we were able to sit outside, which was great) and the food was being served in takeaway boxes, (by the way staff all displayed high safety procedures and all were wearing masks/face shield) It's true in saying that initially I was put off by the takeaway boxes, but once I started eating, WOW ✨ all was as excellent as ever.

Keep up the excellent work... I know it must be so difficult, but WELL DONE to you all !!!

One of the highlights of a trip to London for me!
Nov 2019
And it's not just because of the wonderful cakes in the cafe. All the most interesting books are highlighted in the LRB and I can never escape without a few under my arm (purchases, that is!)

Can’t avoid being drawn in.
Jan 2020
Hooked up with the LRB about 30 years ago when my late father in law sent me a copy containing one of his poems. Haven’t always subscribed since but very often picked up a copy when travelling or marooned away from home and find it almost impossible, when in or near the BM or just at this end of Holborn, not to wander into the shop and then to find something I’ve missed or never heard of. It’s a seductive but unpretentious space leaving me unable to simply grab a pic of the cover and order online for next day delivery. Here your psyche just wont let you not walk out with what you need or want. I also like the cake shop. (I’ve experienced none of the angry moodiness of a server as described by a recent reviewer.) I like the cakes and the easy feel in there.

This shop is a few yards down Bury Place which is just opposite the south east corner of the Museum front railings.

Spent way too much money but worth it
Dec 2019
May be our favorite book store in the world for so many reasons. Well organized. Friendly staff. Decent prices. Just what a bookstore should be with an excellent cafe nearby. We spend money here to support this bookstore each time we visit and mail the books back home. They have EVERYthing, and they love books themselves. Makes being here a real pleasure.

Everything a good bookshop should be
Jun 2019 • Solo
This isn’t one of those dusty old bookshops with nooks and crannies stuffed full of obscure books. It’s the epitome of what a good modern bookshop should be. A good selection of titles, sensibly displayed and knowledgeable helpful staff. Pop into the excellent if slightly hipsterish cafe and you’ve ticked all the boxes for current day book lovers. Great location too, just across the road from the British Museum.

Love this independent bookshop. Can't pass by without going into browse and nearly always come out having bought something! Books beautifully laid out and staff very knowledgeable about stock. And there's a yummy cafe for snack or lunch. What's not to like?!

Nice bookshop shame about cafe
Apr 2019 • Family
I've been a big fan of this bookshop and cafe for many years. Had noticed last visit, atmosphere seemed to have changed, but thought we'd give it another chance.
Sadly after last Wednesdays experience it will be our last. I don't know what was wrong with the lady behind the counter who was making the drinks/taking orders but she took her anger out on every dish banging and clanging so loudly it became unbearable to talk. Myself and son had popped in after 3pm hoping for a nice peaceful relaxing late lunch. We made a speedy exit through the bookshop and took our custom elsewhere. Very disappointed.

What an amazing bookshop. The selection, the presentation, the staff, everything is perfect. Always a to-visit item on my list when in London. Cannot recommend this enough. Please note: only for serious bibliophiles!

Thought I had died and gone to heaven!!
Oct 2018 • Solo
My book podcast host recommended this bookstore and I was not disappointed!! It is a book lover's paradise. Located on a quiet street near the British Museum in Bloomsbury, this bookstore carries an incredibly well curated array of books from fiction to nonfiction. The books are displayed well and many have helpful staff summaries accompanying them. I finally had to limit my purchase as I could have really have gone overboard! Also, much thanks to the store for having a public loo--something hard to find in London shops.

Lovely book shop and cafe
Sep 2018 • Solo
Lovely little book shop with knowledgeable staff and a charming cafe next door. Girls behind the till were friendly and the coffee was good. Plenty of non-dairy options too (choice of soya, coconut or oat milk). Can't comment on the taste of the cakes, but they did look nice and fresh.
