Whisky from all over the world to buy
Jan 2016 • Solo
If you're into whisky (or any other spirits) and want something a bit different, this is definitely the place to go. They don't sell much under £30 but it's all proper imports that you can't buy anywhere else or small batch limited edition stuff.

Worth it if you can find it!

My husband is a bit of a whisky buff so we set out to find this place specifically but it still took us 3 attempts on different days and then an intensive 20 mins up and down Duke St. So- just so we're clear- look on Duke Street for the A board advertising the corn exchange. Step into the little alcove that holds the corn exchange and then go down the staircase under, I'm not joking, an awning marked "Jenny's Sea Food". There you are, easy peasy! Anyway, once we found it, it is worth a good poke around and the labeling of the bottles is quirky. Just a word of warning and this is specifically to the owner. He is really knowledgable and we had a great chat with him...once he warmed up. In the first 5 mins however, it was like getting blood out of a stone to get him to talk to us despite the fact the place is the size of a bathroom. It was quite awkward and really put me off and if I'd been alone, I would definitely have left. All this, you have to bear in mind, after the aforementioned 3 attempts and 20 mins up and down the street looking for the place so it wasn't like we weren't pretty determined customers. Once the chap warmed up/ actually came off his computer and got out of his seat (or resigned himself to the fact it was late in the day and we were going to take some of his time?), he was chatty, personable, knowledgable, interested and willing to give (amazingly good) measures for tasting. We left happy in the end but why put up the barriers to start with? Many would indeed have left, I guess. Try a visit yourself and see what you think.

Secret door
When looking for a rare vintage whiskey or other spirit definitely visit Whiskey Business. We were unable to find a special rum from the Dominican Republic even stateside. The shop keep managed to track it down and hold it for us which is quite impressive considering that we had traveled across an ocean. The door for the store is located down an alleyway and then down the staircase. You feel like you're in and Al Capone movie going into an old speak easy or rumrunners snatch. Very cool people and very knowledgeable if you can find it 👍 it's worth it.

Aladdin's cave of whisky and hidden gem
Feb 2014 • Friends
I went for the first time looking for Jennys bar. It's the same entrance, down the staircase off Fenwick St in the business quarter of Liverpool. The cosy environment, (shop doesn't do it justice) is a quaint mixture of private cellar and gentleman's study. You feel like you've stepped into a film set. Hand written labels tied around deliciously shaped bottles hint at the contents. Blends, malts, aged: a connoisseur's paradise. Tasting sessions were booking up with messages posted on facebook and twitter.

Go if you want a special bottle (they don't sell supermarket stuff), gift sets, cocktail accessories or to get advice from the Knowledgeable staff.
