Awful
Nov 2021
Had an awful experience with the bar staff. I attended with friends to go to the pub quiz and have a nice evening. It was only my second time visiting and the first time I went was during COVID when the app was in use. All the menus still recommend to use the app so I ordered a drink on the app only for it to fail but the I checked my bank account and had been charged twice.

I joined the queue and eventually got to the bar staff where I asked about my drink. The staff member was very rude about me asking and I was just trying to get a drink. He was very perplexed at the idea of me having used the app and spoke to me in a very abrupt and aggressive tone. Eventually I said okay can I please just buy a drink.

I paid and he went to go pour it and I stood to the side only for him to call over me to the customer behind me in the queue and say "Oh how nice of you to queue like a normal person" which made me feel exceedingly embarrassed. When he gave me my drink I walked away only for him to shout after me "Don't forget to go tell your stupid friends not to order through the app too".

Overall, an awful experience that left me feeling incredibly upset and embarrassed. Will not be visiting again. What made it worse is the staff member that served me appeared to be the manager. Made me feel too mortified to go to the bar after.

The quiz itself was good fun and the atmosphere was nice. If the staff hadn't been so rude I would've given 5 stars.

What a fab venue 😊

The pub was busy with a mix of age groups and we were heading to the city centre but decided to stay at the Brookhouse for food and a few more drinks as we enjoyed the atmosphere.
We were meeting family and the pub has some nice seating areas and the food was great.

We had our 2year old daughter and mother in law and it was a suitable venue for all.

It was busy with a great warm and friendly bunch of staff and atmosphere.

Great visit, great pub.
Jul 2021 • Friends
One of the most historic pubs along Smithdown Road is The Brookhouse Pub ,first opened in 1878 and called The Bourne Arns Pub ,its a pub that's been always been a popular pub down this street.
I love the interior, multi roomed,a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, dark wood features abound throughout this pub, great decor and furnishings, tv's and big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Smithdown Road, one of the most beautiful features of this pub is the huge stained glass window beautifully decorated with flowers in a snug room ,its just a fantastic pub.
We were here on a Thursday afternoon, we track and traced and sanitised our hands and we were allocated a table were we ordered a guinness each, guinness was poured in the correct manner even allowing time for the all important settle, we just kicked back, settled down and enjoyed the Euro's football being shown in this pub .
My guinness was absolutely superb, a rich, thick, creamy and most importantly iced cold guinness bursting with taste and very easy to drink, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and enjoying the football, to be honest I would have sat outside but with the sunny weather all outside tables were full but no matter its just as nice sitting inside this pub.
We really enjoyed our guinness in here, only stayed for the one each before moving on and as on every other visit to The Brookhouse Pub we had a great time.
The Brookhouse Pub is easy to locate along Smithdown Road, a street teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday, 11am till Midnight.
A fantastic and historic pub ,one that's most definitely well worth seeking out.

Sunday lunch
Jun 2021
We visited our student son in Liverpool today and struggled to find a pub/restaurant with a car park that was open during the lunchtime period.

We found the Brookhouse just by chance and were met at the door, signed in and asked where we would like to sit, we chose a table in the window. My son ordered on the app, two pints of Guinness and a bottle of cider for myself.

Hubby chose the 10oz Gammon steak with egg, pineapple, chips and peas (£7.99). My son ordered a seasoned triple burger with chips (£7.49), and I ordered the Chip Shop Platter which comprised of fish, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter, a battered sausage, jug of curry sauce and decorated with a nice slice of lemon (£9.99) The lads also ordered sticky toffee pudding and custard £2.79 each and the total with drinks came to £40.40 which I don't think was badly priced for the three of us for lunch.

It's a shame my son's three years at university in Liverpool has now come to an end or we would have made this one of our regular haunts on our trips to Liverpool.

A very nice meal, served hot and the staff were friendly and chatty

45 minute wait for 3 drinks of pond water
May 2021 • Friends
The Brookhouse used to be a good pub.

The draught beer tasted horrid & needed a line clean, food was substandard & we waited nearly an hour for a round of 3 drinks when they weren’t even at full capacity.

Go to Kelly’s or the Willowbank instead

Hi, I'm sorry you have had this experience. can I please get the time, day and what table you were on as I can look into this and see what the issue was. I personally clean my lines at 6am every Tuesday morning and since this is the only complaint of bad ale I've had I presume its a bitterness of something else that's happened but I would like to make things right and will offer you a full refund or your next drinks on us. please contact me to discuss further

Staff made us feel awkward and uncomfortable
Sep 2020 • Friends
We signed in as we walked in even though there was no one at the door to greet and inform us on all of the COVID rules and guidelines. We then went and sat somewhere where there was no reserved sign but were rudely told we could not sit there because we were more than two people and were then directed to the tables which had reserved signs on them. Extremely unclear and confusing for us. We then went up to the bar and a brunette lady and blonde man were extremely rude and told us ‘girls, do us a favour and walk the right way next time and make sure you sign in on the front door. There were clearly sign posts.’ We responding saying that we did sign in, but of course they wouldn’t have known this because nobody was manning the doors. We’re tourists, we have never been to this pub before so we weren’t aware of this one-way system, we did not see any clear sign posts saying that we would have to walk outside and back in again to get to the area of the bar whereby we had to order. For them to be so strict about the rules there should have been somebody on the door explaining what to expect when we went inside and also none of the staff were wearing masks or visors which is a bit ironic since they were so rude to us about accidentally not following the one-way system. They made us feel so uncomfortable that we ended up just leaving instead of coming back round the front to order a drink. We can’t believe that the staff made us feel that awkward that we didn’t even want to get a drink, it felt like we were being patronised and told off instead of kindly being told what to do.

Could you please advise me as to when you visited our premises - the date and your approximate time of entry? This would allow me to investigate the incident thoroughly. If you would like to come in and discuss the issues raised in your review further - perhaps over a pot of tea - feel free to contact us at Brookhouse.Liverpool@Stonegatepubs.com Thank you in advance.
