Great pub
Oct 2021 • Friends
October 5th my twin brother Stephen and I decided to jump the train down from Kirkby to Liverpool City Centre to celebrate our 56th birthday visiting some of the great pubs our city possesses and The Lion Tavern Pub was at the top of our list of pubs to visit.
I love the look of this pub, the interior is fab ,multi roomed, an eye catching island style serving bar serves both sides of the pub, there's also tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a great pub to unwind in.
We were here on a Tuesday night, pub was relatively quiet , we ordered a pale ale each, these were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back and went over the great day out we had just enjoyed visiting lots of great pubs and enjoyingour birthday.
Pale ale served in here was outstandingly good ,a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee, a big hit of hops and very easy to drink on a hot night, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew.
We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here, only stayed for the one each before moving on and as on previous visits to The Lion Tavern Pub we had a great time.
The Lion Tavern Pub is easy to locate along Tithebarn Street.
Monday to Wednesday, Midday till 11pm.
Thursday to Saturday, Midday till 11.30pm.
Sunday, Midday till 11pm.
A wonderful pub, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

A proper traditional pub
Aug 2021
This is a proper traditional pub, which there are not enough of in Liverpool. Great cosy surrounding, with a good atmosphere, a good choice of drinks with friendly welcoming staff.

A special pub
Jul 2021 • Friends
The Lion Tavern Pub is a wonderful pub along Tithebarn Street that I always look forward to visiting, its a pub that has a special place in my heart ,been going here for more years than I care to remember.
I love the look of this traditional back street boozer ,it's a multi roomed Victorian pub,an island style serving bar, beautiful original tiles ,wonderful wood features, tv's to enjoy the sport and great decor and furnishings throughout this pub, its just a fantastic pub .
We were here on a Thursday afternoon, we track and traced and sanitised our hands and we were allocated a table were we ordered a pale ale each, these were served in excellent condition, we kicked back, chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub.
My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale with a big hit of hops, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma, on a hot afternoon a totally refreshing brew.
This pub is very popular, always has been, its got a good atmosphere created by staff who are genuinely pleased to see you in their pub, to me sitting in a pub of this quality enjoying a delicious pale ale and sat with my twinny is as good as it gets .
We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The Lion Tavern Pub we had a great time.
The Lion Tavern Pub is so easy to reach ,its located behind Moorfields Railway Station on Tithebarn Street.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Thursday, Midday till 11pm.
Friday & Saturday, Midday till 11.30pm.
Sunday, Midday till 11pm.
A wonderful pub, if you enjoy real ale's in a classic British pub it's a pub worth looking for.

Until the 3rd national lockdown ends.
Mar 2021 • Friends
Before the 3rd national lockdown descended my twin brother Stephen and I decided to jump the train down from Kirkby to Liverpool City Centre and visit some of the great pubs our city is justifiably famous for and The Lion Tavern Pub was at the very top of our list of pubs to visit.
I love this pub, always have ,been visiting here for over 30 years, the pub itself is old, opened in 1865 ,its interior is fabulous, the main feature is the island style serving bar, a combination of finely detailed wood, etched glass and original tiles, the main room is a proper drinking den ,great decor and furnishings, tv to enjoy the sport, the two back snug rooms are superb ,one has a faux skylight that looks amazing, there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, all in all its one of the finest real ale pubs in Liverpool, high praise indeed when you consider that Liverpool is a city that prides itself on its amazing amount of great real ale pubs.
My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Wednesday afternoon, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the staff, we gave our details of name and phone number to assist with the governments track and trace system and then sanitised our hands, we were allocated a table in one of the snug rooms were we ordered a pork pie meal and a pale ale ,pork pie was served with sauce and was delicious, The Lion Tavern Pub has a great reputation as serving the best pork pies in Liverpool and I can't disagree, absolutely first class.
My pale ale was really good also ,a rich, full bodied pale ale bursting with taste, very easy to drink, a real ale style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond.
We finished our pork pie meal and our first pale ale's, loved the vibe in here and ended up staying for another two pale ale's each before we moved on to The Railway Pub next door and as on every other visit to The Lion Tavern Pub we had a wonderful time.
The Lion Tavern Pub is easy to locate along Tithebarn Street, its behind Liverpool Moorfields Railway Station.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Thursday, Midday till 11pm.
Friday & Saturday, Midday till 11.30pm.
Sunday, Midday till 11pm.
At present all pubs, bars and restaurants in the UK are closed due to the 3rd national lockdown but from the 12th of April pubs with outside service can serve beer and from the 17th of May inside and outside service is allowed so not to long to wait till we can all visit The Lion Tavern Pub again.

The coronavirus pandemic has turned everyone's world upside down, no sector has been hit harder than the hospitality sector, we visited The Lion Tavern Pub post coronavirus lockdown, pre tier three coronavirus restrictions which ultimately led to the 2nd lockdown which is in operation until the 2nd of December.
I love the look of this pub ,as traditional a pub interior you will find in Liverpool, multi roomed, a fantastic and ornate island style serving bar, tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, a really good pub to chill out in.
We were here on a Saturday night ,greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the staff, we gave our details of name and phone number to assist with the governments track and trace system and then sanitised our hands, we ordered a pale ale each, these were served in excellent condition,we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in.
My pale ale was outstanding, a crisp, amber ,well balanced pale ale, hints of caramel and a big hit of hops, very easy to drink, a real ale style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond of.
This is one of my favourite pubs ,been drinking here for over 30 years ,always serves great beers and real ales ,its a pub I always feel comfortable in.
We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
The Lion Tavern Pub is easy to locate along Tithebarn Street.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday, Midday till 11pm.
With the 2nd lockdown currently in operation all pubs in the UK are currently closed.

One of Liverpool's best real ale pubs.
Apr 2020 • Friends
Without a shadow of a doubt The Lion Tavern Pub is one of Liverpool's best real ale pubs,a pub I've been visiting since I was in my late teens and 35 years later I still love dropping into this pub wherever I am in town.
I love the look of this pub, named in honour of a locomotive that once served the Liverpool to Manchester railway line, the interior is awesome, multi roomed with one of the most ornate wood and tile island style serving bar's your likely to see, etched and stained glass features throughout the pub, great decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub,tv's to enjoy the sport , its a great pub to unwind in.
My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Thursday night, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff, after a quick study of the eight hand pulls of real ale my brother went for Otter Brewery " premium ale " while I went for Salopian Brewery " pale ale " and both these real ales were served in excellent condition, we got a table in the " newsroom " section of this pub were we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in while sipping our real ales in this fantastic cask accredited pub.
My pale ale was outstanding, but I knew it would be ,the real ale's served in this pub are always served in pristine condition and served by staff who are very knowledgeable about their real ales,a well balanced, full bodied pale ale with a big hit of hops, very easy to drink,a real ale style I really enjoy, my brother Stephen also gave me a thumbs up to his real ale.
We both really enjoyed our real ales in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to The Lion Tavern Pub we had a wonderful time.
The Lion Tavern Pub is easy to locate along Tithebarn Street, its a one minute walk from Moorfields Train Station.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Wednesday, Midday till 11pm.
Thursday to Saturday, Midday till 11.30pm.
Sunday, Midday till 11pm.
An absolutely fantastic real ale pub,one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.

Traditional
Jan 2020
Lots of choice for a drink round here but this is as traditional / sympathetically restored as it gets. several small rooms, long bar, dark wood, red leather, etched glass and a great selection of well kept ales. Great value.
The pies look amazing also, never been hungry by the time I've got here so not sampled yet but hope to put that right soon.

Warm pub on a cold night .
Jan 2020 • Friends
One of my favourite pubs in Liverpool and a pub I've been visiting for over 30 years is the wonderful The Lion Tavern Pub,a pub that offers great real ales and always a friendly welcome .
I love the look of this pub ,its got three rooms each with it's own character and served by an island style serving bar, great decor and furnishings including tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, it's just one really cool pub.
My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a freezing cold and rainy Saturday night, pub was warm as was the welcome from the barman ,we chose to have a pale ale ,these were served in excellent condition, we got a nice table under the tv and watched the football being shown while sipping our pale ale's.
My pale ale was exceptional, a crisp, well balanced pale ale with a big hit of hops, really enjoyable, a classic British pale ale.
We really enjoyed our ales in here but as we were pub hopping around this part of town we only stayed for the one before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
The Lion Tavern Pub is easy to locate on Tithebarn Street just behind Moorfields Train Station.
A great pub,one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.

Lovely pint, shame it was spoiled by the bar tender who was obvously having a bad day
Dec 2019 • Business
Nipped in for a quick pint with work colleagues as I was told they had nice ales. Before the pints were received giving me the opportunity to thank the tender I was rudely told I hadn't said please whilst ordering ? The chap serving seriously needs to have a word with himself on the critical aspects of hospitality. No need for it to be honest made me feel really uncomfortable. He must have been having a bad day or something but I wont be going back again for those reasons.
