A former school tucked away in the city center. One of the oldest and most attractive buildings in Liverpool now plays host to contemporary art and performance displays. The rear secret garden is a tranquil, picturesque place to take a breather from the surrounding hubbub.

The outside of this old building is attractive and the gardens are beautiful, a lovely little space for a restful coffee in picturesque surroundings on a warm day. However inside was such a disappointment. The exhibition was rubbish, my eight year old grandson could have produced better, Also the toilets were smelly and not in proper working order, and there... I love the building, it is so different from what is around the area. The cafe and garden are always a hit and didn't disappoint. Contemporary art isn't for everyone, I know that but normally there is something that I can relate to. Came with my 3 lads, 14, 12 and 9 and they left laughing rather than inspired. Perhaps... More

I love coming to the Bluecoat & couldn't wait to show it off to my BF's mum. We had a coffee & took it outside to drink it in the garden courtyard. It was a lovely sunny day & the coffee/cakes are gorgeous. Felt like a tranquil little paradise just a stones throw from the hustle & bustle of Church... More

Nothing special apart from the way it's been kept. It's a 300-year old building but you won't realise it. As, I failed to see any significance of it or how different it is from other buildings, I would rate it as an average.

Quiet area just off main shopping street, qwerky shops and pleasant garden to sit. Interesting buildings provide an area to escape the city bustle.

Visited because of Bloomberg Contemporaries- selected works from final year art schools around the UK. As you would expect it was mixed but overall impression was very good. Some very good video work by female artist including from Asian or Middle Eastern background. Has a very nice garden, cafe and gift shop where you can buy less run of the... More

Built in 1717 this stunning building is the oldest in the city centre. The central garden courtyard is free (you can even bring your sandwiches!) and is a haven of tranquility in the city. The coffee shop is very good and excellent lunches are served in the upstairs bistro. Prices are competitive. Bluecoat's main purpose is as a contemporary arts... More
