About
We are a lovely Anglican Church located in Woolton village, South Liverpool. The cornerstone for the current Church was laid in 1886, and it was built from local sandstone. The 90-ft high bell tower contains 8 bells and is the highest point in Liverpool with fabulous views of Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and the Welsh hills. Inside are many fine features, including a wonderful Church organ and a beautiful set of stained glass windows, designed by the famous artist Charles Kempe. The two smaller windows were removed from the original church and were designed by William Morris. St Peter's Church is most famous for being the location where John Lennon met Paul McCartney on July 6, 1957, and the Lennon-McCartney partnership was born. The Church graveyard provides the final resting place for 'our' Eleanor Rigby, as well as John Lennon's uncle, George Toogood Smith, and Bob Paisley, the most successful manager in the history of Liverpool Football Club.

Stopped by the St. Peter's Church Hall to see where John Lennon and Paul McCartney met in July 1957. While we did not go inside, there is a very nice plaque honoring this important event in music history.
This is across from the cemetery where Eleanor Rigby is buried so this a nice stop off if you are visiting there.

We're sorry that you were unable to go inside the hall when you visited. It's a working Church Hall and, although we try to open it for the public as often as we can, it's often not possible. But so glad you enjoyed everything that you could see!

Went to Woolton this morning to visit St Peter's church hall, where Paul & John first met. Was taking photos of hall and plaque, noting the importance of the meeting, when a lovely man asked if I wanted to go in to the hall, eh yeah! He opened up the hall and Derek, was great and very knowledgeable spoke about the meeting and some of the photos and comments on wall and showed me the exact spot where that famous meeting took place. He then went and retrieved me a copy of the flyer for the village fete from that day with the'Quarrymen'(John’s band)bottom of the bill😀 He took me over to the graveyard and showed me the sites of 'Ellenor Rigby's' grave and John's uncle. Lovely man and he made it all worth it and even more special! Thank you Derek so much

So glad we came here to view the church where John and Paul met, at the Church Fete. Also finding the grave of Eleanor Rigby and her family. We came by car, sort of doing our own tour, rather than on the bus or a taxi . Seeing this helps to put the pieces of the Beatles story all together.

We looked around the graveyard and visited St. Peter's Church Hall during the International Beatles Convention. We met three lovely and friendly volunteers at the Church Hall who were very knowledgeable about the Beatles Connection with the Church; as one of the locations for the film 'Yesterday' and the village of Woolton. They were able to show us around the outside of the Churchyard, the Church its self was shut due to Covid-19 restrictions, and were able to guide us where to find the quarry that provided so much of the stone for Liverpool's local and landmark buildings, a short walk away.
The Volunteers were selling merchandise to celebrate the place where John Lennon met Paul McCartney; their original Group The Quarrymen; and pieces of glass from the original stained-glass windows that were removed as they were beyond economic repair. All sales were going towards Church funds.
We very much enjoyed our morning in Woolton and will be visiting again the next time we stay in Liverpool

It was amazing to see the location of where John Lennon and Paul McCartney first met back in 1957 which was next to John Rigby’s grave! The grave helped create one of the best Beatles songs being Eleanor Rigby!
It was easy to get to the church however there was no parking spaces, only spaces next to the road of St Peter’s Church!
If you’re a Beatles fan or like the song Eleanor Rigby then come to St Peter’s Church if you visit Liverpool!!!

We stopped by St Peter's to see Eleanor Rigbys headstone. Made famous by Lennon and McCartney. We then walked around the church yard to see all the lonely people. A very nice church and yard.

I visited St. Peter's as a part of solo Beatles pilgrimage during International Beatleweek 2019. Gotta admit I had to think twice to go there because it's located a bit far from the city center but I did go there anyway and it's the best decision I've ever made.
I took a bus from city center (about 50 mins) and made a stop in nearby bus stop. Took me 10-15 mins to find the church and the entrance. I saw Eleanor Rigby's grave (located on the third row) and the surrounding area is very nice with lovely flowers in the garden.
The church hall is located accross the church. It's a bit hidden but I saw someone on Tripadvisor posted the facade of the hall, so that's very helpful (thanks!). I was greeted by Donna and Chris who were very welcoming and lovely. Chris showed me around, told me stories about how John and Paul met. He helped me taking my photos and Donna gave me a repro of programme on the day when John and Paul met in 1957. Woolton people are my new fave people! Thank you to Chris and Donna who created lovely memory during my trip! 💙

We visited this church as part of a Fab Four tour and were very impressed. We saw the grave of Eleanor Rigby and father Mckenzie as well as the grave of Bob Paisley and our tour guide (Steve) also explained how John and Paul actually met in the Church Hall across the road. The church is in a beautiful area and well worth a visit!

We use Pool of Life Tours every year. Tim is great and is very informative. There are several options for a shorter tour or the almost all day tour (9:30 to 4ish). My wife loves the Beatles so we go on the all day tour to see the Casbah, St. Peter's Church etc.
The field where the Quarrymen played is now part cemetery, with a fence and a day care behind the fence. We were on tour with Colin Hanton, the Quarrymen drummer, to find the exact location. It is still great to get the feel of where the fete was and you can see the site where Paul and John met as well.
