If there is one place in Liverpool you must have your photograph taken, then it is next to the life-size statue of John Lennon in Mathew Street. Leaning nonchalantly against a wall (inscribed with the names of the groups who appeared at the original Cavern Club), John watches the world go by. The bronze statue was created, in 1996, by local artist David Webster (who also sculpted the statues of The Beatles on the Hard Days Night Hotel, which is just around the corner from Mathew Street. The statue standing today, however, is not the original statue because the head on the original was vandalised. David Webster created a ne head which, it is said, has a more recognisable face. I wonder if that is the reason why the origianl head was vandalised?

It’s a great depiction of one of the most famous people in the world.

Showing a young John, he has hands in his pockets, legs crossed and looking out intently.

With the semblance of not having a care in the world, it portrays just starting out on his journey.

I should had taken a selfie. It was quiet but only later did I realize I missed an opportunity.

Just outside the Cavern Club, this is John Lennon leaning rather casually.

I did wonder this would had been a better spot to place the other Beatles as well.

Found this statue listed in a guidebook- The Beatles Liverpool.

Opposite the Cavern. Used by many for a selfie opportunity. Lots of people queuing up to have their photo here.

Great sculpture - nice to see it. All part of the Beatles storey and one of the reasons I chose to explore Liverpool.

A must see for a Beatles fan. Located by Cavern Club, It's a good place for a photo op . It's usually a crowded area. So go in the afternoon.

Whilst it may not be perfect, this is an instantly recognisable statue close to the Cavern Club in Mathew Street and is a mecca for the selfie seeker. Also check out the memorial wall nearby plus the statue of Cilla just a few metres further on

I am surprised this statue has very little reviews. We liked it a lot and you can not miss it on Mathew street, It is great for a photo op for a Beatles fan,

You’ll find young John across from the Cavern club. It’s a great likeness of the legend and a most see if you’ve got time.

Lost count of the number of tourists having their photo taken with this statue. Iconic location on Matthew Street.
