Overview
More
Thanks to the genius of Lennon and McCartney, Penny Lane is one of the most famous lanes in the world. The Penny Lane Development Trust celebrates and preserves that unique heritage and has welcomed over 20,000 tourists since we opened in 2010. PLDT is a registered charity and is run by a small dedicated staff team and is also supported by volunteers who assist with the maintenance of the grounds and help during our events. The centre’s presence in the area continues to grow and we are a thriving community hub and tourist destination. We don’t have a big budget so you might struggle to find us on Liverpool tourism sites because the modest funds we raise are reinvested back into the charity ensuring we can continue to provide services and support to the local community. We are included in the tours of 39 guides, so make sure you ask upon booking. They all say that PLDT is a highlight to their tours, were guests can enjoy a snack and beverage purchased from one of the numerous outlets on Penny Lane. Tour guests love to hear about the history of the project and support us by purchasing unique souvenirs of Penny Lane or items created by local artists, makers and authors. We also have an ever growing collection of original Beatles memorabilia and collectors’ items as well as very rare memorabilia from John Lennon’s first band The Quarrymen, who are members and regular visitors to PLDT. We have the unique ‘Beatles Wonder Wall’ which has been used many times as a backdrop for TV crews from all over the world and for photo shoots from band publicity shots to wedding photographs. We also have a Penny Lane street sign on site and our little yellow submarine ‘Resurgam’, discover it’s amazing history and the connection it did actually have with The Beatles. We have a car park and all of the other Beatles sites in South Liverpool are within walking distance or a short drive from PLDT and our staff are always happy to help with directions and information. The PLDT global community is increasing at an astounding rate and we are proud of the friendships that have been forged here, the vast majority who visit us have done so on a recommendation, now, money can’t buy that love! So come join the Penny Lane Community, you won’t be disappointed.
