A Christmas Carol - Ely Cathedral
Dec 2021 • Couples
We watched the performance of A Christmas Carol at Ely cathedral, it was amazing. The actors were superb and the singing was beautiful. This is the best version of the play we have seen. Congratulations to everyone involved.

A Christmas carol -Exeter Cathedral

Saw this production last night. Absolutely loved it! Brilliant cast, singing was magnificent.
Really bought the story to life. The bonus of seeing this production in the wonderful Cathedral made it all the more special.
Well done to all the performers!

Poorly done
Aug 2021 • Family
Alice in Wonderland wasn’t the quality show me or my family expected. The venue was lovely, staff were very friendly but first look of the stage it looked very amateur and worn out. Cartoon paintings and it all looked a bit shoddy, but let that slide as its a tour show. We saw Midsummer Nights Dream at same venue a few weeks ago and the set was the exact same. Again probably for touring reasons. The play started and straight away realised the writing was dreadful. Alice should be fun, playful, whimsical but this was anything but. A lot of boring nonsense and a slow dragging pace. Caterpillar scene was probably the most boring bit when it should be very colourful and fun. Even the kids switched off at this bit but luckily the drugs references went straight over their heads. Props were worn out and lacklustre, Dina looked haggard and the “magic carpets” were laughable. Actors were a mixed bunch. The girl playing Alice did decent job with the awful script. Queen of Hearts was strong and funny. Also liked the swimming mouse was think was the same lady. Mad Hatter was funny but very shouty which got annoying, and White Rabbit was very over acted and cringey. Not sure if it’s the actors or director at fault but lots of standing round and talking nonsense for the most part. Actors also weren’t microphoned which is baffling for outside theatre! Get them some mics for better audio quality, seems a very basic thing. Overall could have been worse but certainly not the best outdoor show we’ve seen. Think they need to hire better writers and invest in better props and set!

Pointless and tedious
Aug 2021 • Couples
I wish I’d read the reviews before we went. The play was ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at Framlingham Castle. One other review described it perfectly by saying that the songs were ‘tedious’ and ‘pointless’. The whole play at the Globe runs for about 90min. This lasted a good 2.5 hours. We were ready to leave about 30 minutes in. It was far too long for what was on offer. The costumes were drab and poorly put together and as for the whole scene design, it looked very much like a bored GCSE art student’s project. Apart from the character who played Demetrius and Bottom the rest of the performances were a mixture of over dramatic flouncing and facial expressions.
Save your money, nothing dreamlike about this.

Don't waste your money
Jul 2021
We saw their A Midsummer night's dream last night at Newstead Abbey, Notts. This was one of the worst productions I have ever seen. With the exception of the actor who played Bottom/Demetrious the rest of the cast shouted their lines and flung their arms about in hammy exaggerated movement at every scene in place of actual acting. They knew their lines alright but they were delivered straight and without wit, style, nuance or emotion. The costumes were dreary and the set was truly appalling. The addition of bouts of tedious, pointless singing was the final straw. The whole production lacked any imagination or verve. I bitterly regret that I wasted money on tickets for what was advertised as a professional production, as well as driving an hour there and back. The suspension of reality is what makes a play magical and this Company spectacularly failed in that for two whole hours.

Pathetic.

Bad script, cheap sets and, on the whole, terrible acting. I'm sure they've had some success in the past, but they are on a slippery slope. Far better productions (including amateur productions) out there.

Christmas Carol
Dec 2019
Saw their production of Christmas Carol at Plowright in Scunthorpe. We had read the novel and seen the Alastair Sim movie version every year for about the last 30 years so interested to see what this was going to be like. I think the cast was a total of 7, each taking a number of different roles. The play was very much based on the Dickens novel with a few variations. Also a bit singing, a little bit of dancing. A mixed age group in the audience all seemed to thoroughly enjoy it as we did. A great early start to Christmas and well recommended.

MidSummer Night's Dream
Aug 2019 • Couples
Having booked with another coup,e we duly set off with our small table and chairs to Wakehurst Place, plus wine and nibbles. Having secured our spot the first thing we noticed was the very basic set, fair enough as it's a touring production. However the two small speakers on each side of the stage didn't bode well. With the production under way the young cast virtually had to shout as they were not miked up a and the two speakers were for the prerecorded music. There was a cast of 8 so many of the actors played multiple parts, the acting quality varied enormously from the quite good to the awful. The setting at Wakehurst saved the evening, just.

The secret garden
Aug 2019 • Family
Set in beautiful surroundings we thoroughly enjoyed the production of the secret garden at Rochester cathedral gardens.
A quaint little show, that captured the audience.
We took a blanket as suggested to find most people had brought camping chairs, luckily there spare extra chairs, lots of children sat at the front on their blankets.
The simple stage was very effective in portraying different scenes within the story.
It started at 7.30, with and interval at 8.30 for twenty minutes and resumed until 9.30.
Very enjoyable!

Wuthering heights very dark, very revengeful play
Jul 2019 • Family
I went to Wells house open air play of Wuthering heights. Its a thing we do now, my mam and us sisters get together in the summer we go to see a play in Wells house, we have done this for 3 maybe 4 years now. Because of this hugely disappointing play we probably wont be going to anymore of their plays.I didn't know the story but thought it would be similar to the other plays which I have seen with my family, Pride and Prejudice, Little women and so on, but unfortunately it was not! This play is very dark, depressing and revengeful. I really don't understand why anyone would have it as a play. Also there is a scene where the brothers wife is having a baby and while it isn't graphic or anything, I really think they should have had her go off stage, I'm glad i didn't have any children with me there would have been some questions. Also what happens between Heathcliff and his poor but stupid wife is disgusting, again not graphic they go off stage, but you know what happens.
In fairness to the actors they did a good job of acting, but the play is a terrible one. I do not, not, NOT recommend anyone to see this, it is also not child friendly.
