About
Situated in the heart of historic Lincoln, The Collection brings together Lincoln's archaeology museum and the Usher Gallery in one fantastic visitor centre. The Collection includes a wealth of artefacts from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, Roman, Saxon, Viking and Medieval eras as well as fine, decorative and contemporary visual arts. Now Open.....Play at The Collection is a free activity centre, bright and engaging; there's lots for younger children to do and a safe play space for babies. There is also plenty for older children to do in the museum including interactives, mosaic making and trails to follow. My partner and I visited this museum at the start of the month and really enjoyed looking at the collection of local exhibits. We were also impressed with the University of Lincoln robot which you can use to show you to different exhibits and it tells you about them. The museum is free to visit so I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something to do.

We really enjoyed our visit here, which exhibits a lot of archaeology from the ancient city of Lincoln. Ok some of the displays were a little cheesy, but it was very informative and enjoyable to spend some time wondering around. I feel I must apologise to the bizarre robot guide, whom we cruelly sent off on a tour by itself (ok it was quite funny...!) Worth a visit, and plenty to engage children with as well.

My wife and I enjoyed our visit to this free museum, all they ask is for a donation. Tickets for entry in 30min slots can be booked online and is pretty straightforward.
It's a clean, modern building situated just off Steep Hill and shows a history of Lincolnshire life and artifacts that have been retrieved from different sites.
It's well put together and informative with some nice exhibits but it wont take much more that 90mins to get round, it took us just over the hour.
There's nothing particularly interactive for the younger kids (perhaps due to covid19 restrictions) so they may find it a bit dull. As it's free though it's worth a look so you can make your own judgements.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review of your experience at The Collection, we are so pleased you enjoyed your visit. You're right, due to Coronavirus we have removed some of the interactive activities from the museum temporarily in order to keep visitors safe in line with the government's recommendations. These will return as soon as possible but in the meantime for a small charge we offer a bumper activity pack which includes a fun trail around the exhibits along with lots of other treats to keep children entertained during their visit and at home. When we are advised it is safe to do so we will resume our exciting temporary exhibition programme, re-open the much loved children's play area, invite our unique robot tour guide Lindsey to come back to the museum and reintroduce our ever-popular family fun days once again. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates as well as plenty of online content and activities from our collections and learning teams. We hope we see you again soon.

The museum is free to enter and opens at 10am but it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The exhibits give an excellent history of the area going back to prehistoric times. There is something for all ages including a very amusing robot that moves around the museum and interacts with children of all ages giving additional information.

The building itself is interesting and offers a fantastic space, so first impressions were good. We arrived at The Collection with huge anticipation and high hopes, having read about the Gaia exhibit. What a disappointment! The exhibit has been completely over-hyped through marketing media and very poorly executed. Some of the museum contents were so poorly displayed. Coming from a small town with a museum that beautifully displays unearthed ancient mosaics, we were shocked to see a mosaic floor displayed beneath filthy misty glass, sunk into the ground and completely unlit.

We were in and out of The Collection in less than 15 minutes. The museum did have a lot of activities for young children, but sadly the Usher was closed on the day we visited The Collection, as a visit there may have helped redeem our own experience.

as a uni student, visited Luke Jerram’s gigantic moon was the one of most incredible sculpture I’ve seen. The atmosphere alongside this moon was feeling calm, peaceful and mindful. Staffs inside this building was friendly.

This is a very well curated collection distributed between the museum and the gallery opposite. Well set out, and a great way to spend a couple of hours - also an excellent coffee shop. Very pleased we visited. There is no entrance charge, donations can be made.

Enjoyed visit but spoiled by appalling lighting making it very difficult to see some of the exhibits and their descriptions. Whilst more delicate items may need subdued lighting, most of the displays are metal and pottery and so robust enough to benefit from slightly more illumination than that given off by a geriatric glow worm.
Maybe also change some of the displays and bring things out of storage as the exhibits have changed very little over the years.
Why are the core samples not labelled? There's a huge display with literally no context.
Café is great with friendly helpful staff and great choice of food and drinks.
Shop is basic and expensive.

Nice Museum worth a visit which is on one floor and wheelchair friendly.

There is a canteen with plenty of seating and check the website for exhibitions.

The main feature in the Museum is based around Art and Archaeology.

Well worth a visit 👍
