I took my Dad to visit the museum. It was very interesting for him (in his 80’s) and myself in my 40’s. I went with an open mind thinking it would be small and a quick visit, but there is lots to see.
There is free parking outside and a lovely welcoming reception area, with two friendly ladies who will help and guide you with your visit.
There are toilets, a book shop and gift shop too.
I would highly recommend this museum, even young children would enjoy parts of it.
Lots of outside space and a play area too. We loved it and would definitely return.

We decided to visit Lincoln for the day and stopped off at this museum first. I’ll start by saying that this place is completely free to visit so it is worth doing. Being free, I didn’t expect there to be so much to see. The museum offers everything from Victorian Lincolnshire to the world wars. With all of the information on display, you can spend a good few hours looking around the museum.
We had a fantastic time visiting this museum and would highly recommend you visit if you’re in the area.

Excellent free museum to visit, from the free parking outside to the very friendly welcome from the ladies in Reception, working your way through the facinating exhibitions to the second hand book store, it's a great visit from start to finish.
Lots of rooms and shops set up as old style Victoriana, all interesting,
But for me the highlight was the exhibition on the Lincolnshire Regiments history, absolutely fascinating, the stories of their VCs were thrilling, and then the moving story of the the Beechey brothers, Amy Beechey had eight sons and five never returned from the Great War, I must admit I found myself welling up as I read their story.
Then onto to some weird and wonderful farm equipment and how Lincoln became a driving force in engineering, and helping to win the war with the first tanks, built and designed here, something for Lincoln to be proud of.
This museum is well worth a visit, and I'm amazed I've lived here 30+ yuears and this is my first trip here, and I urge anyone to donate something when you visit (I did and I'm tight!!)

The museum staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I particularly enjoyed the exhibits showing life in a typical house about about a century ago. I came mostly because I was a curious about the early tanks. There was a great exhibit about those, complete with a video that included a lot about the women who worked in the munitions factories of World War I. As a whole, the museum is interesting and informative, with good signage on the exhibits.
I was there for about an hour, but I didn't pay a great deal of attention to the military exhibits. Someone interested in those would likely study the signs more than I did and so might need more time.

On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome by a staff member, who explained where to start, which was helpful. There is no charge to visit although we left a donation which all goes to the museum upkeep.
Each area shows a different room set up of house from a bygone era and explains how families lived, and coped without today’s niceties, central heating, washing machine’s etc.
Loads of items from the past ie kitchen implements, washing/cleaning items.
There is also an area with old tractor’s, steam driven motors even a 1st world war tank.
Definitely worth a visit.

Cannot believe how much there was to see. Every aspect of life seemed to be represented - domestic, commercial, military. Lincoln is of course the birthplace of the tank and this is covered. All sorts of vehicles on display many relating to farming but also commercial and cars - loved “Doris the Morris”.
For items displayed in display cases there were details so you didn’t have to guess what you are looking at, as you often do in museum settings.
We had allowed a morning to visit but as there was so much we returned the next day and we probably could have spent more time visiting.
The museum is housed in a former military barracks and its military life is fascinating.
Remarkably the museum is free to visit and the staff welcoming and friendly.

This place is a very short walk from the castle and was a fantastic find. A mix of rooms laid out as they were in "olden days" and in larger areas collections of local-linked farming, train and war artifacts.
We'd sought it out because we'd heard about one of the first tanks ever built were on display here, and were pleasantly surprised to find everything else on show here.
We whiled away a couple pf hours reminising about what we used to play with or see at our grandparents houses!
Even more suprising was to find a link between Daphne the tank and our home city of Gloucester in taht she was on display in Gloucester park for a few years after the First World War.
Totally recommend this as a place to visit for all ages.

This is a real gem and worth the short walk away from the centre.
The displays are set out in a really interesting way and there is plenty of information.
Although the entrance is free, relying on contributions, it would certainly be worth a an entrance charge.
Well worth visiting.

We had a great time at this museum. All the rooms full of objects were fun to examine, we could imagine children enjoying trying to spot different objects. The section about the Lincolnshire Regiment was evocative, especially the small recreation of the WWI trenches. The transport section was very interesting to look around. I must say we enjoyed this museum much more than the prison museum at the castle and would probably come again. Well worth a visit, especially as it is free to enter.

An excellent look into Lincolnshire Life.
The rooms & exhibits were well set out.
There is something to interest all ages.
Staff were very friendly & polite throughout our visit.
We had 2Toasted TeaCakes & 2 Hot Drinks in the cafe for less than £5.
Really good value & very tasty.
I gave a donation on my way out too as it’s the best Free Trip I’ve had in a while.
Thank you .

Is there any parking at the site as I am bringing my elderly parents next Monday 10.30am and want to look round then go to the minster. My dad is limited in walking around. Thanks. Neil

Hi, the Lincolnshire Life Museum has a car park - it isn't huge but runs in front of the museum and down the side and there are a number of spaces. We parked there with no issues. Street parking is also available around and about but a lot is restricted permit holder parking so be careful. The streets around are flat so access is decent. It is a few minutes walk from the Minster but probably too much to walk if your Dad is limited with walking. Took us about 5 minutes to walk from one to the other. Some cobbles and a few uneven pavements but otherwise ok.

Every day, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Last entry 4:00 p.m., but I'd certainly give it more than a half hour!) Note that the website says Mon. - Sun., but I'd double check with the TI Centrbefore going on Sunday. The TI, right on the square approaching the unmissable Cathedral, is very helpful!
