Museum is Being Relocated
Jul 2017 • Couples
This small museum is no longer in the Birchwood Community Centre as the whole centre is being modernised. At present it's future is unknown.

RAF Skellingthorpe Museum , Birchwood Avenue Lincoln RAF Skellingthorpe, ( inc 50 & 61 Squadrons ) Heritage display & trail Following the redevelopment of Birchwood Leisure Centre ( Active Nation ) in 2018, most of the memorabilia, photos etc have been put back on display in the main café area within the centre. There was not enough room to display everything we had before so some artifacts are still in storage. There is a PC terminal in the café with public access to the IBCC website & archive Plans are in hand to develop a heritage trail , starting from the Centre, where the remains of the original RAF station entrance road is still visible, then around the adjacent playing field , where building foundations, the edge of the main runway & a large section of perimeter track are preserved. Further away towards the southern end of the main runway, near the nature park/`Damons` roundabout, further sections of the main runway, bomb shelters, and the signallers pan are still visible.

Excellent and Interesting Small Museum
Jan 2017 • Couples
This is a small museum in the Birchwood Community Centre on Birchwood Avenue in Lincoln. It is dedicated to 50 and 61 Squadron who both operated from this WW2 Airfield known as RAF Skellingthorpe. Since the war, the airfield has been built over by a large housing estate. There are still signs of the airfield in the local woods and Birchwood Avenue itself was built on one of the former runways.

The museum contains many archive photographs and also records, aircraft memorabilia, and equipment. The Remembrance Books of both Squadrons are also here. There is no admission charge and entry can be made through the main entrance of the Community Centre. There is coffee available for a small charge and free car parking. The opening hours are 10.00-22.00.
