Myself and my partner recently moved quite near to the Donkey and often pop in for a quick drink. Recently they have started serving food. We went along to try out their menu as we had heard that there were vegan options. We weren't disappointed, the food was excellent and not the usual token vegan dishes (e.g. risotto). We also went along with a friend that eats meat and he was very impressed too.
Whilst not a pub that most would term family friendly we have always visited with our daughter (7 months) and are made to feel incredibly welcome by all of the staff, and they always let us know what time the bands will be starting on that day so the little one doesn't damage her ears.
I'm really happy that we can call this pub our local, I totally recommend it to anyone that lives in the area or is passing through.

Seen so many great bands at the Donkey I thought it was time I gave them a review. I've enjoyed seeing some amazing well established artists as well as great up and coming bands. It's always worth checking out their gig listings to see what's coming up. I recently had food there too and it was excellent.

This is basically an old pub with a stage, as such the beer is good and well-priced and the atmosphere is generally good. However, I went to see a band play the other week, paid the door fee and although initially very enjoyable they just kept cramming more and more people in. With the main door to the street blocked by the band and its equipment it soon began to feel unsafe due to the crush of people all pushing towards the stage. With just the one side door to the car park open any incident would have caused a crush which could well have caused injuries or worse. Feeling unsafe I left but even that was a major problem getting through the crowd. The crush towards the end of my stay was such that people gave up attempting to get to the bar and empty glasses were not collected as staff could not get through to them.

Great place for live music , just on the edge of Leicester . Bands on most nights and some surprisingly big names for a pub gig . Big carpark and occasional out door gis in the summer . Well worth a visit .

It may be a little out of the city but it's a great small venue. Nice compact, good acoustics, well kept beer at acceptable prices, friendly owners and staff and if you are hungry, the pub next door has an Indian attached to it which is absolutely amazing!
