During the COVID-19 pandemic we all needed a little cheering up and where better than our nearest seaside town, Blackpool

We got in the car and drove from Manchester to spend an evening there during the annual illuminations.

We walked the Golden Mile, had a chippy tea, visited Central Pier, played bingo, bought some rock 🍭 and ended a fun evening in Coral Island as we do every year.

Whilst in there all six of us rode the Pirate Flyer and had an hour playing the games. We spent a lot but really enjoyed ourselves and at the end of the night half of us popped to the loo before the journey home, whilst my daughter went to cash in the 350 tickets she had won on the arcade games.

When I came to find my daughter I was walking across the arcade towards where I left her when a very abrupt lady official approached me, waved for me to go back and said ‘we are closed everyone has gone, you need to leave’.

I explained I was looking for my daughter who was cashing her tickets in but she talked over me and adopted a rude manner whilst telling me everyone has gone and I had to leave. As you can imagine I was worried as I knew my daughter was inside and said as much, but this lady continued to talk to me in an unnecessarily forceful way making us all feel quite shocked.

Just then my daughter and cousin appeared. She was walking to the door with her prizes helped by a very friendly security guard who had earlier spoken to us and helped us with track and trace. He was a pleasant chap who we had seen throughout the evening asking people to wear masks. He “did” have customer service skills and when we explained the previous situation he was sorry and walked with us all to the main exit.

I hope that management read my review, with over 60,000 helpful votes on my TripAdviser blog, I know plenty of people will. So if you are reading, you need to train this dark haired lady with glasses, in customer service, because she very nearly ruined our evening and her abrupt approach was completely unnecessary for respectful people such as us.

At a time like this, I would expect that families like mine, who were all happy to spend money tonight, are a much needed asset to the Blackpool tourist economy, so invest time in your team to stop us from going elsewhere.

Great arcade with plenty for all age groups. I particularly liked the fact there was plenty of adult slot machines so I could play for proper money and not rubbish tickets. The Ghost Train and Monorail are really good features too.

The Snack Bar (which ironically only seemed to serve main meals) was good value but always had a queue. The Buccaneers had fabulous theming although we didn't eat in there.

There was a good variety of machines but what was a let down was how quick some were to end. The Nerf gun game, (2 players at a pound each) seemed to last around a minute and there were others like it.

There was always plenty of staff and the toilets were clean too.

My tip is don't leave it to Thursday or Friday evening when most people are finishing their holiday to get your ticket prize as all the decent items are gone. Get it in the morning as they restock then.

The safety measures in place upon entering i am happy with including track and trace and hand sanitizer station on entering and some dotted around.

Sadly a lot of people's lack of brains spoils it has a lot of people removed there masks upon entering and staff didn't enforce this once inside. Although a lot of people didn't have masks on once inside because they did temperature checks on entering this made me feel safer although of course there are people who are a symptomatic.

Reason this isnt a 5 because i didnt see staff cleaning any of the machines and i was in there for a good one hour maybe longer and also staff not enforcing wearing masks once inside

Too many people inside, no cleaning of machines and no crowd control. Really disappointed as is the highlight to any trip to blackpool.

Security should really limit how many people are inside at any one time.

When leaving via side entrance was greeted with a customer with no teeth holding a bottle of buckfast fortified wine; they also 🍷 offered to fight anyone ! lol 😂

Try and Go during the daytime or quieter times; seems to be a free for all on a weekend now !

I am honestly surprised my NHS track and trace app has not gone off yet, it’s literally a perfect breeding ground for the Coronavirus.

Nobody was wearing masks, or if they did have them on there face they weren’t correctly worn properly, none of the staff wore there masks either which just says it all really. Over the 3 times we visited Coral Island we saw just one of the workers sanitise one of the machines and we spent a good 30-45mins in there each time.

We absolutely love it here and visit multiple times every time we are at Blackpool but the whole social distancing wasn’t great. It tells you at the doors to enter you need to text a number etc to register but no one was there to enforce it so we could of easily walked in without doing so. It also tells you to wear a mask with it being an indoor facility but I would say only 50% of people were in masks including staff members. There was no one way system and most machines still open so people were on top of you. We limited our time in here due to this and it just being so busy with so many people.

Temperature and track and trace done at the door. The person taking the temperature had his mask only covering his mouth. Once you are inside it’s horrendous, barely anyone wearing masks , NO social distancing in place , I didn’t see any hand sanitiser stations inside. A lot more could have been done to keep people safe. We left straight away.

Fantastic family day yesterday. Took the kids for some rainy day fun and they loved it . They were happy playing on the 2p machines and hubby loved the selection of racing car machines and the virtual reality game was a winner for all of us. Staff were very friendly and chatty . Harry and Chris the Duty Manager at the gift shop made a huge fuss of the kids much to their delight. It really made our day .
We decided to eat at the Buccaneer before we left and the food was great. Fab selection served quickly and once again the staff were friendly and very helpful. Emmie and Tara are a credit to the team.
We will definitely be back soon .

We nipped in to Buchaneers restaurant for a quick drink, after we got our drinks a rat fell from the ceiling and crawled under a nearby table. I feel sorry for the people who were actually eating, as we just got up and left. We told a few staff members on the way out but they didn’t seem bothered. My wife had to use the fire exit as she has a severe rat phobia, the staff were quick to tell us we couldn’t use that door. It’s a shame because we always go to coral island when in Blackpool.

We visited Blackpool for a couple of nights and came into coral island one of the evenings as we were passing. There was lots of things to play on..... however it was absolutely packed and so actually getting on anything was nearly impossible! Our 2 older children did manage to get on the pirate monorail ride and also on the ghost train which was good at just £2 each :) there was a snack bar and toilet facilities on site which was handy. We did go for a drink in the snack bar. However it was so busy in there we headed over the road to Golden Mile Amusements.
Would definitely visit Coral Island again but maybe not in the six week school holidays!! :)
