Parked in the Houndshill multi story for three days during a recent break to the town. Whilst the parking rate was good at £36 (£12 per day) the payment facilities are abysmal. None of these machines will accept Scottish banknotes.
This is the 21 century and this nonsense and frankly an insult to Scottish visitors who spend a huge amount of money in Blackpool year in year out is growing tiresome and infuriating.

Royal bank of Scotland banknotes are legal tender in the UK and this unacceptable situation needs addressed and should at least be indicated adjacent to the payment machines that only English notes are accepted. although i suspect that would open a huge can of worms wouldn’t exactly promote your business in good stead?

My search to exchange my two countries banknotes for the English equivalent also brought more insulting behaviour from Blackpool’s retail fraternity.
Upon explaining my predicament and politely asking the manageress of the NEXT retail unit in the shopping mall if she could exchange my notes, I was firmly told, ‘absolutely not! delivered in a curt and dismissive manner. Maybe geography was never her strong point and she thinks Scotland is located on the dark side of the moon but your northern hospitality reputation which you apparently value so much just took a severe hit by this uncalled for attitude and pathetic point scoring by this ignorant wee lassie. I even offered to buy a gift card but she still wouldn’t budge!
Manners cost nothing. Something she should remember working in the retail industry.
A smile might help her case now and again as well.
I eventually found the local Nat West Bank who exchanged the notes without question so a huge thank you to the staff for their help and courtesy.

I would add that I had no trouble spending (a lot) of my Scottish £20 in the hotel i was residing in and also the various bars I visited during my otherwise enjoyable stay.

What a pity I was unfortunate to experience such a biased episode right at my departure back to civilisation.

Fairly modern but dull and cheerless shopping centre. It's looking very sad now that the Disney store has joined Debenhams in closing its doors (and there are other empty units too). The small food hall looks very forlorn - ok if you like Burger King but that's about it. Building works at the rear of the centre seem to be making access to and from the car park more difficult than usual - not a good way to encourage people back to the town centre in the run-up to Christmas.

Saturday 25th March and we visited this Shopping Centre in the heart of Blackpool at the back of the famous Tower.

We walked up the paved pedestrian access, Adelaide Stree west, to the entrance of this modern red brick built buiding, which opened in the 1980's.

The area outside the Shopping Centre seemed to be a bit dilapidated and run down and not very inviting.

Inside the Centre it appeared to be like an enclosed windowless curved arcade, with shops on either side. We thought it was a bit dark and dingy.

The Centre is home to a variety of outlets, the main ones being Primark, River Island, Next, New Look and others.

There is also an Opticians, Newsagents, jewellery and shoe shops along with health & beauty stores, a bakers, toy store and others. In total there are over fifty-five outlets in the Centre.

The Food Court is located on the mezzanine first floor, with a branch of Burger King. There was also a Costa Coffe, Starbucks and Cafe Nero in the Mall

It has it own multistorey car park and boasts 700 plus parking spaces and chages £2.70 for up to two hours.

We were not overly impressed with this shopping Centre we thought it was a bit compact and badly lit. We had a quick walk around then left.

Do not buy from here if you are unsure about the fit as they will not give refund just a credit note (even after just 5 days .)
I Bought some Fit Flops at 70 pounds tried them on in shop and walked round but later on getting home my feet were rather swollen after walking in town and I could not get them on ( at home on carpet ) … I waited to see how they would be next day but they still rubbed on the front of my foot .
Hubby took them back for me as soon as we were able to and we had a rush to get a tram , I waited at a coffee shop (as I have COPD and was rather breathless ) he came back with a credit note saying they would not refund … it’s only a credit note they give and there is a small sign on the wall saying that .
The lady ( Chrissy ) said they do not have to refund as they are a small company she was very rude and arrogant and is a very pushy saleswoman to be honest ..
In cases such as this they should inform everybody at the time of paying of their No refund policy and then you can make an informed decision to buy or not .
I honestly thought this was a reputable firm that have high standards refund policy ….

The Houndshill car park is terrible.
The access routes inside to the different levels are far too narrow which can result in you kerbing your wheel.Even a more experienced driver could struggle.
It is however a convenient car park for the excellent shopping centre.
Shame it's let down by its overpriced unsuitable carpark.

Despite there being some empty shops because they have put art work or boards up at the windows it doesn’t feel empty, it’ll be much better once the old Debenhams unit has been taken over.
Great variety of shops for everyone.
Always very clean and tidy.

Your average high street shopping centre. Good mix of shops but a few empty units. Not sure what they are going to fill the huge empty old Debenhams store with. The newer end of the centre is spacious but the older end is quite narrow so can get a bit congested when busy.

Good mix of shops. Food court and toilets on first floor via escalators, stairs or a lift. Parking available in the multistorey. Hardly any empty units other than the old Debenhams. Put a pound coin in a kids ride but it didn't work. Enquired with a houndshill employee and they said I had to sort it myself by phoning the number on the ride. I did this and it was sorted quickly over the phone, but what a palaver!

Range of shops and undercover gets the three stars. Two stars lost as getting back into the car park after hours from a show was not obvious and no help given on websites on how to either, very poor information provided for what should be say to put on a modern website. Just got the feeling the owners are not bothered and once your in they’ve got you!

It has been some years since I last visited Houndshill shopping centre.

Covid meant there was a one way system but several stores were still shut.

The Debenhams was having a closing down sale and its demise will be a big loss to the shopping centre.

There were a few good stores but plenty of it is just average.
