The Grundy is listed as holding some interesting works of art by first rate artists, however, do not plan a journey as they will not be on public view. The policy is to exhibit works from the permanent collection 'in support ' of temporary exhibitions. Currently this is Patti Mayor - no, I hadn't heard of her still less knowingly seen any of her work before. Suffragette studied at the Slade. Ten out of ten for 'woke' perhaps a shaky five for her art, that is unless you have a burning enthusiasm for accomplished but dull Edwardian sketches and oils. Blackpool deserves a much better curatorial policy to place the good art it holds on public display. If you are visiting Blackpool then save yourself thirty minutes of your life and give the Grundy a miss. You'll lose nothing.

When I went in I borrowed one of the folding stools so I could sit to study my favourite drawings. There was work by Rachel Goodyear, drawings and an animation - sinister and surrealist images. Also paintings and sketches by Patti Mayor. The exhibition was well laid out and the captions told me as much as I wanted to know.

This gallery is well worth a visit in Blackpool. Run by the council it is free, is also connects with local schools. A great welcome. Jon Marc Allen picture - There's taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold - is a highlight plus the film - don't cross anyone. Loved Sue Massey's Drifters too. Thank you Blackpool for the free exhibition!

It is very interesting to see the old gear that has been around the town for
a number of years.
It is nostalgic for us oldies and fun for the kids to see what interested us

Wanted something to do, and from the outside this art gallery looks big, minus the library. Talking to the receptionist who said "I love this place, there is 3 floors full of art", 3 floors is not what we got.

Walking through to the gallery, on the first floor there was 3 paintings propped against the wall and a black curtain that led to nothing but pitch darkness, so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Most of the "interactive" art collections were not working. On the second floor, there was broken machines from the 1980's and the "art" on the wall had peeled off and was now just scraps on the floor. The supposed third floor was non-existent.

Maybe it's the day I visited on why it was so minimal of art, but if this is what its like all the time, I wouldn't bother again. Other pictures online made this place look great, but it wasn't. Wouldn't recommend.
Understandable it is free but comparing it to other free art museums I have visited, where they have floors of art to see, this was a huge disappointment.

I saw artist Serena Kordas 'Aping the Beast' here and ended up following a giant dinosaur to the Tower Circus to watch a very surreal version of Godzilla....wonderful! Its hard to stand out in Blackpool but this show certainly did! Kids loved it to, makes a change from the same old commercial culture.

Walked a long distance in the hope of seeing some art. Only the ground floor was open with a seaside photography exhibition. It was ok but nothing special.

This is certainly a bit of a strange Art Gallery. The art is of the modern variety and there isn't a lot of it. There are only three smallish rooms plus the entrance.
When i was there it was about light so the few exhibits that are there show light and shade. Two rooms had only one item in them.
Interesting if you have a few minutes to spare.
