Disappointing
Aug 2021
Walked a long distance in the hope of seeing some art. Only the ground floor was open with a seaside photography exhibition. It was ok but nothing special.

Pleasant and helpful staff
Mar 2020
All the installation by Garth Gratrix consisted of was three striped towels with a pink triangle on each, and there was a colour chart with the title of each towel. What a load of minimalism.
The Grundy staff were pleasant and helpful as on my last visit.

Interesting and varied exhibition!

This gallery is well worth a visit in Blackpool. Run by the council it is free, is also connects with local schools. A great welcome. Jon Marc Allen picture - There's taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold - is a highlight plus the film - don't cross anyone. Loved Sue Massey's Drifters too. Thank you Blackpool for the free exhibition!

'Trick of the Light' was stunning!
Oct 2019
How amusing to use overhead projectors for art!
There were superimposed images of a veiled woman moving so all her arms looked like spiders legs.
I watched the Zoetrope go through several cycles before I worked out what was actually happening as opposed to what my eyes were telling my brain.
(And the Grundy has lightweight stools you can borrow to sit on while you study the exhibits.)

A fantastic asset to Blackpool!
Oct 2019
We visit every time we come to Blackpool on our annual weekend visit to see the illuminations.
The gallery really is a wonderful hidden gem and would wholeheartedly recommend a visit.
Firstly it's free! But please think about leaving a contribution in the box at the exit.
The "A trick of the light" exhibition this autumn was really superb.
Lots to see but not overwhelming.
Really interesting artworks from Victorian to contemporary pieces.
Particularly enjoyed the Masterpiece and the awesome centrifugal soul which was utterly mesmerising.
How wonderful to have such an amazing gallery - full credit to all involved. A fantastic asset to Blackpool.
Looking forward to our visit next year!

Quirky is an understatement
Oct 2019
This is certainly a bit of a strange Art Gallery. The art is of the modern variety and there isn't a lot of it. There are only three smallish rooms plus the entrance.
When i was there it was about light so the few exhibits that are there show light and shade. Two rooms had only one item in them.
Interesting if you have a few minutes to spare.

We visited with an open mind and low expectations only to be blown away by a truly amazing exhibition. “A trick of the light” has some stunning effects and is a must see. Thank you to the informative and helpful staff.

A light exhibition
Oct 2019
Another venue I had not visited before, an amazing exhibition that featured images of Blackpool projected on to the walls in a room that was blacked out. I will be visiting the gallery every time that I visit Blackpool in the future to see what is on offer.

Always a delight
Sep 2019
When it comes to swimming against the tide this small but always interesting gallery has mastered the art of surviving in an often hostile environment. This is not a particularly "cultural" area so anything more daring than exhibitions by local art societies has/have always been viewed with suspicion.
What a pleasant surprise then that the main attraction for this summer was Artist Rooms featuring a small but perfectly informed selection of works by Pop Art pioneer Roy Lichtenstein.
Whilst that dominated the main two galleries the smaller side areas were given over to an exhibition developed in partnership with the National Disability Arts Collection and Archive.
Two very contrasting collections underlining what a delight this galley always is.
