- BigBoca10Hanley, United Kingdom44 contributionsDisappointing for the moneyI recently visited Sealife Blackpool with my 3 young children and I really have to say how dissatisfied I was with the visit. We used Tesco Clubcard Vouchers to exchange for entry to the attraction & that was a massive saving grace. For us to have visited it should have cost between £70-£80 and that is a ludicrous amount of money for what is on offer here now. One of the main tanks is currently empty as they are improving it. I understand that they have to update and build new things but they shouldn’t charge the same amount of money when they are offering less exhibits and if they are then they should at least be warning people that there is a massive exhibit lying empty. Secondly I don’t understand how every time I visit the attraction seems to actually be getting smaller but the price seems to go up, surely you could do one or the other, because they are pricing people out of actually going, especially those with children. Thirdly I think the fact that there is now a Julia Donaldson play centre next door that cost us only £40 and we spent double the time in and enjoyed a lot more shows that I think the Sealife need to do something because there will be a point where there visiting numbers will get less and less. The fact they can charge £70-£80 for something that is probably an hour to see is something I don’t understand. If I ever return to Blackpool I would be tempted to go again just because my children love looking at fish but I think they need to do something to improve the attraction.Hello. Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed our attraction however, I am sorry to hear that you feel our attraction is expensive. There are many ways you can make your day out cheaper, for example by purchasing a Merlin annual pass with which you can take advantage of all our wonderful attractions across the UK. Furthermore, our website offers an extensive pricing structure which provides varied rates for both peak and off-peak periods. Ticket rates vary throughout the year however our off-peak pricing offers a much higher discount or alternatively you may choose to use a discount from one of our partners (including Kellogg’s cereal for example) to be able to make days out cheaper. I hope we see you again in the future. - Jade10 contributionsUnderwhelmedUnfortunately, a very underwhelming visit to Sea Life Blackpool recently. Its an expensive trip out as a family of 5. When I'm parting with that kind of money I expect to spend more than 40 minutes in the attraction. One of the main exhibits was closed on our visit. We received no warning of this upon entry to the attraction. It seems a bit unfair to charge people the same money for less to see and not inform them. If we'd of had the choice we'd of come back when it was open! My kids did enjoy seeing the fish that were there which is a saving grace. From an accessibility point of view its not the most convenient set up. You have to loop back through the whole attraction to access the lifts at the front. This is more a personal annoyance than a negative. You get some funny looks trying to push a double buggy against the natural flow of the attraction layout!Hello Jaden. Thank you for your review. Please can you contact us at guestservices,theblackpooltower@merlinentertainments.biz to discuss your feedback further? - Dawn.R.32 contributionsKids!!!!We normally enjoy this attraction and love seeing the good work being done to conserve these creatures. We visited last Tuesday to be greeted by, what seemed like, hundreds of little pre school or very early primary children. They were absolutely everywhere and it was impossible to see the exhibits. I completely understand that the children should have an awesome trip out but the attraction should be closed to the public when they do. We did not experience the full enjoyment of this attraction especially as it cost so much to enter. It should have been reduced on this day. A warning should be put on your booking site to say that school trips are present on certain dates to give people the chance to book another day. It’s the very least that should be done when people are spending so much money to enter. The pleasure beach made it perfectly clear on their website that there are school trips all week giving people a chance to change their dates- this should be done here too. On a positive note, a brilliant talk given by a gent with ginger hair, very informative and engaging.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 13, 2023

- Philippa W19 contributionsEnjoyable, but pricyWe enjoyed the aquarium but as others have said, it is very expensive for what you can see. It was quite crowded when we went which meant we were pushed into going a bit faster than we wanted at times (some of the areas are quite narrow spaces to walk through which makes it difficult to linger) but we spent about 15 minutes in the shark tunnel, which was a highlight. Some of the signage was great, some confusing. Excellent talk from Sarah at the end.Hello Phillipa Thank you for your review of SEA LIFE Blackpool I am pleased to read that you enjoyed your visit overall and thank you for the kind words about the team. - Darceymccoy5 contributionsAccessibility needs? Don’t bother. My grandma with limited mobility came with us for this trip. The accessibility is limited and incredibly poor. There are limited seats/rest areas available throughout the attraction and you have to then walk all the way back through, against the crowd, to get back to the lift, with little intervention or help from staff. Incredibly disappointed, despite the aquarium being good itself.Hello, Thank you for your review We are so pleased you enjoyed exploring our magical underwater world coming face to face with glittering scales, humongous tentacles and razor-sharp teeth. One cafe, one high chair that was filthy (wasn't busy and others weren't in use - there was just one which was really dirty), cafe freezing cold, asked a member of staff for support cleaning or another high chair, passed the book and told us to ask someone else even though there was no one else about. Couldn't feed my daughter as it was so drafty and dirty, would not attend with a young child. Waste of money even with the free tickets from Kellogs. Baby changing filthy, family toilet stunk and was dirty. Really poor.Hello, Thank you for reviewing Sea life Blackpool ; we really appreciate your feedback. Visited Sealife Blackpool on 30th July. I was a bit apprehensive given the current Covid-19 situation but we had nothing to worry about. We were booked for 10.45 & arrived a few minutes before. Promptly at the allocated time a member of staff asked everyone to have their pre booked tickets ready & allowed a couple of groups in at a time asking them to use the hand sanitiser on their way in. Once in there are arrows on the floor showing you which way to go to avoid bumping in to other people. Plenty space inside to socially distance, it did get a little busy at certain attractions but if you use your initiative & hang back to avoid making it even more busy then its fine. Staff friendly & attentive.

We had a great visit to SeaLife Blackpool this week. My son loves sea creatures and was excited to see so many. I was really impressed by the staff. My son was keep to tell them the facts that he knew and they listened carefully and told him even more facts. The lady who did the behind the scenes talk at the end was particularly good, as was the lady who was dressed as a witch and another lady who had been cleaning out the tanks.
I did feel it was quite expensive- it was around £50 for an adult and two children- and we were only in for just over an hour.
Overall a good visit.

We visited while on a weekend trip to Blackpool. Our b&b hosts were kind enough to give us some money off vouchers to use at various attractions. We have a 5 12 and 13-year-old children. So finding something that all of them enjoy doing is difficult. They chose to visit the sea life centre, which even with the discount came to over £50. It took us about two hours to look around and that was taking our time. The tank with the sharks and giant turtle in seems far too small for the amount of large fish in there. We were hoping they would have some kind of cafe facility but there was only self service hot drinks. There is a small soft play area but this was for under fours only. The older children went on a virtual reality ride which was £4 each, however the next people on paid £7 for two people? The shop which is next to the soft play at the exit is expensive, and filled with the typical souvenir shop tat and toys. We weren’t offered a carrier bag when we bought things so ended up carrying a large blue paperweight and a giant stuffed turtle around with us for the rest of the day. When we arrived, we were ushered to one side to sit down and have a picture taken, we weren’t given a choice in this and thought we were having some kind of talk. This is a very sneaky way to get people to spend money on a photograph (we didn’t buy it) all in all it was nice to have a walk around but I wouldn’t be going back in a hurry.

Hi,
Thank you for taking time out your day to review SEA LIFE Blackpool.
We would like to ensure that at SEA LIFE all our animals are well looked after and cared for. All the tanks within the attraction go through extensive checks from a veterinary team to ensure all enclosures are compliant with the regulations of upholding our zoo license. We would like to thank you for raising your concerns. If you would like someone to put your minds at ease please fell free to give us a call at SEA LIFE Blackpool to speak to a member of our Animal Care Team.
Your tickets are valid all day meaning you can leave and return as many times as you would like during the day, giving you the option to leave for food and return afterwards.
As I am sure you are aware we are very passionate about conservation which is why we have tried to reduce the plastic we produce as attraction and a company, this includes using paper straws and not using bags within the attraction, we do offer bags for life for an additional charge which helps us to support Turtle Conservation.
I am happy to hear that overall you found it nice to have a walk around SEA LIFE Blackpool and we hope that you will come and visit us again in future.
Kind regards,
Tom.

We visited here as a last minute alternative as the tower was closed for the high winds but were actually very glad we did. It turned out to be the highlight of our trip! There was so much to see, we spent nearly two hours exploring (did loop back a couple of times and spend a while watching the sharks and turtle). The exhibits were beautifully presented, clearly a lot of love (and work) has gone in to this! Each tank was a great balance of creating a close to natural environment for the animals but also something beautiful to look at, they were works of art! There was plenty of information to read about the animals too but the TVs cycling through it meant it wasn’t overwhelming. The stingrays were a real highlight for me, I have never seen so many species in captivity before, we really loved the big tank with relaxing music being played. That was such a nice touch - could have stayed there all day. The tunnel was another great bit letting us see the sharks etc. from a different angle but the absolute highlight was the turtle. She was so beautiful, but we particularly liked that she was kept in such a big tank so we caught glimpses of her as and when she chose rather than feeling like she was ‘on display’. Throughout the sea life centre animal welfare appeared key and all the animals looked happy and healthy. The Covid-19 safety measures were also good with a one way system, plenty of hand sanitizer and reduced numbers of people it all felt very safe.

We loved the Mermaid experience at the Sea Life centre! There were pirates throughout the centre who wanted us to fight them with inflatable swords and tell them funny jokes in order to pass into the next area, which we all loved!
The centre is at limited capacity for the experience which is always an added bonus as it does get chocker otherwise, and on a hot day it really does reach some high temperatures in the ocean tunnel, so less people is always a winner.
There is so much to do with quizzes being handed to you at the door and a mission pack available to buy (only £4 which isn’t bad for what you get in it). The variety of sea life, as to be expected, is extensive and there’s many resources to encourage education regarding many of the creatures.
Being able to see beautiful creatures such as sharks in an environment that seems open and highly maintained is lovely; they just seem to float about with enough room to do so freely.
There was an issue with the turtle not wanting to participate in the Mermaid Show itself which did put back the show, but the mermaid looked beautiful and was as interactive with the kids as much as you can be from behind a screen and being under water!
If going throughout the summer, the things I’d recommend are to take plenty of drinks and a fan, a caboose for a baby if possible (lots of prams were in there making it a little difficult to get around) and definitely stop at the pirate in the tunnel as they sing songs!
We love the Sea Life Centre and even without the current mermaid event, we will almost certainly be visiting again.

Very good visit during the cornavirus but sadly could be better. For the money i thought £54 was quite expensive considering that this sea life centre isn't exactly big you can get around it within 30-45 minutes probably even less.
Some parts there were too many people so i think less people in building. There was hand sanitizer stations but there could of been more although i had my own sanitiser.
The sea life tried there best to get people to keep there masks on so i think that was good.
Overall i did feel fairly safe.

Standard sea life centre, took about an hour to get round but mainly because of social distancing queues so it is quite expensive for what it is. Reasonably ok from a covid perspective in terms of advice given on the way in, and guidance given on the floor markings, but some areas people were cramming into small areas together. None of the interactive bits were running which is a shame.

We visited today with 3 young children (5, 3 and 1). We live locally and have been plenty of times before. We booked a slot online due to coronavirus. We had to wear a mask all the way round (obviously due to government guidelines), but it was so hot and we had to que all the way round. We had to wait until the family in front had moved on so we could take our turn all the way round. The kids were hot and they were getting really bored and agitated whilst cuing. They just wanted to go onto the next bit but impossible with the restrictions in place. Me and my Mum both said we will definitely not be visiting again while coronavirus is going on. We thought by booking a slot they would only let a few round at once but it was as if they had crammed as many visitors in as possible. I have never written a Trip Advisor Review but wanted to warn all parents with young children - you will be waiting and cuing the whole time and the kids (if anything like mine) will get restless, hot and fed up!

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to review SEA LIFE Blackpool.
I apologise that you found our attraction too warm some of our areas with tropical tanks can be warmer than our native areas but due to government laws and the safety of our guests we need to ensure that guests are wearing masks throughout our attraction.
Time slots have been introduced with limited capacities since reopening, to ensure social distancing can take place, we have markers throughout the attraction which are set at 2 meters (which exceed government guidelines are only 1 meter), this is to ensure that we are taking extra measures above and beyond government guidelines.
We hope that you will consider visiting us again in the future.
Kind regards,
Daniella.

We made a family visit to Sea Life Blackpool under the understanding it was COVID secure. Our experience was awful:
1) the queue system outside does not allow for social distancing. People were sandwiched together with no masks.
2) inside is no better. People ignore the floor markings which provide guidance on social distancing. The groups behind us regularly joined us in our space. A big contributor is the sheer number of people let in at once.
3) inside 90% of people opt to remove masks and face coverings and the cough all over you.
If you look at the website and think this place will be a safe place to visit, don’t. It was horrible.

Hi,
Thank you for taking time out your day to review SEA LIFE Centre Blackpool.
I am sorry you felt like social distancing wasn't being enforced. Here at Blackpool SEA LIFE Centre we are currently working on reduced capacity so have a maximum amount of people within the attraction at any one time. We do have social distancing markers on the floor for people to follow around the attraction as well as someone being placed in our stingray adventure to make sure people are adhering to the rules. We have a Duty manager regularly doing walk rounds to make sure people are wearing face masks and following the social distancing guidelines. We also do regular tannoys to remind guest about the current situation and what steps they should be taking around the centre.
Kind Regards,
Tom.

Depends how long you spend at each exhibit. I’d say it can take anything from 90 minutes to two hours (but longer if you listen to all the talks/ go to the feeding times/ spend time in the play area). It’s definitely worth a visit.
