My review

The fine people of Blackpool put on their finest tracksuits, grab their kids, a warm can of larger and a vape pen to blow clouds of smoke into your face while you shuffle down a crowded prom, trying to avoid the dog poo and errant children,
On one side you have the "fabulous" Blackpool illuminations, featuring such favourites as inflatable Egyptian mummy that doesn't inflate, light up picture of Basil brush with bulbs missing and my personal favourite 'Stewart from Sooty' a guy I've never heard of from a TV show that was cancelled almost as long ago as Basil brush.
On the other side of you, you have the slow moving traffic jam with its wall of exhaust fumes and never ending parade of forlorn children's faces, each more disenchanted than the last. But at least you get to buy a cheap plastic sword worth about 50p at best! for £15, but on the plus side it breaks before you even get half way round so you don't have it cluttering up your house for the next month...except you still do, because kids love broken paces of plastic that they like to leave lying around looking untidy.

We walked the whole route of the lights (over 2 nights though it's a long walk!) starting at Starr Gate and ending up at Bispham. The lights are absolutely fantastic! In September they get switched on at 8pm and knocked off at 11pm.

People forget that this is a massive free light show and it's so disheartening to hear some of the huge slagging off that the lights get on here.

Well done Blackpool for putting on a brilliant show. We'll be back!

They were longer this year and started well beyond the north pier. We had a tour with our bus company and to help fund the light it was normal to give a donation. We had a bag passed along our bus and then gave it up the other end. Apparently Laurence Llewellyn Bowen designed some of the mermaid figures with his daughter. They were impressive.

Terrible display. A lot not working. Nothing state of the art. Main light attraction was Sooty who my 14 year old had never seen it's been that long since they was relevant. Could do with a good clean up in the area and pavements arcade side. Doubt we will go back anytime soon

The modern illuminations are still pretty colourful, with the best displays at the Northern end of the town. The new L.E.D. lights do a decent enough job but taken as a whole, they are a sad reflection of the heyday, when I was a lad. You think the traffic's bad now; well it was a lot worse then and there were far fewer cars around then.

The lights are on until the first week in January, this time and the electricity bill is reputed to be about 100k. I have to say that the tower looks magnificent after it's 25 million pounds face lift. I am also very impressed by some of the sound and light shows in the town centre. The only real disappointment was not seeing any of the old illuminated trams, during our stay. They were always the highlight of the illuminations.

Went on Saturday 13th with grandchildren aged 4 and 7. Started off going very slowly and thought the sparseness was temporary, but very sadly it wasn't! 😔 There were strings of coloured lights then nothing, then more strings and an odd character or two infrequently, I kept telling my grandchildren that the lights would start properly soon but they didn't improve. Pathetic that the Beaverbrooks advert was one of the better lights. I remember years ago there was so much to see, I loved all the colourful animations and it was worth going. When I was at college in Poulton years ago some things were stored there out of season, and the present lights were nothing like them. We were so disappointed 😞 I felt sad for the children as I was driving for a total of five hours and they became very bored 😴 Two highlights were the boat and train shaped trams, and another was the flashing lights being sold en route, but at £8 each and with a captive audience an absolute rip off. I wish I had followed the many who got fed up but did someone about it and turned right, obviously to head home. Never again will I get my grandchildren excited about or visit Blackpool lights, they were such a disappointment for us all. Don't waste your time going there, it wasn't a pleasant experience with the additional hazards of drunks on the streets and people jumping in front of the car. Even the tower lights were pretty mundane.

This year the illuminations have gained some more budget money to spend on new features. unfortunately they have let Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen design them .24 art deco arches out side the tower , like every thing he designs , they are arty farty .The whole idea of the illuminations is to appeal to children , these new features do not .The only road section now that would appeal to children is the pleasure beach sponsored spongebob squarepants section .No new tableaux again , just the same old features that have been around for decades , some of the characters children have never heard of .The illuminations team do a great job with limited man power and money .But the whole display is a shadow of how good they used to be .

Probably about 45 years since I last saw the illuminations and a bit disappointing at first. The light between the South and North pier seemed lacklustre and the theme for some scantily clad show girls seemed out of place with today's society.

The tower lights were very good as other said but when leaving noticed they did a colour change this would have been nice done on a more regular basis. We had walked the length do there for over two hours taking photos and only changed after we left.

The road was shut between the tower and North shores and took a bit of driving around to get back into the promenade. As we drove down came to all the animated tableaux. These were very good and much more child friendly. I wonder how many people miss these as you cannot drive straight up the promenade to see them.

Overall could do better but still fun to see if you are in the area

What a disappointment the illuminations were this year when we visited.
I honestly do not understand how some people can leave reviews saying the lights were amazing etc, I honestly don’t know where they were looking, easily pleased comes to mind.
On previous visits the lights were fantastic but sadly the quality and quantity has diminished over the years.
Blackpool itself is disappointing with hotel after hotel derelict or boarded up and filthy and the state of the town is reflected in the illuminations, tired and run down. The lights on the tower are the most impressive.
I would not recommend anyone to spend their hard earned cash visiting Blackpool to see the illuminations, sad to say, it simply isn’t worth it.

For the first time I walked it through the whole way and my legs protested for a couple of days after but I did get a better picture than going by car. My favourite parts are the large display boards at North Shore and the tower display although I bet I was the only person who admired it all night. Go the Paris and join hundreds of people all day on the platform staring at Eiffel Tower but Blackpool Tower is only a bit shorter but gets not much attention these days. I think the all round display is very good not sure how they could better it maybe having seen them so many times the novelty has worn off somewhat for me now but always worth seeing. There was certainly plenty of people for a weekday and the hotels seemed to be doing well. All the food outlets and shops were open along the Golden Mile but maybe not surprising the prices of the fast food was a bit high although that did not appear to be putting many people off. Some very nice modern indoor eating places I noticed as well. I always wonder how so many stalls selling rock manage to survive I can't believe there is that much demand for it. The horse and plastic dome tours appeared very popular on that night. For the light display I would give it five stars I mean for free and so long and so much effort put in but maybe the shop and stall scene maybe needs a touch more variation than rock, hot dog and doughnut stalls dominating so much. However other European countries would heavily feature national favourite foods probably more so.
