Unparalleled views of Lake District

Went in the late afternoon/evening to catch the sun slowly setting across the summer sky. Fantastic views and warm breeze. Scenic and romantic.

Could walk here from the house we are renting for the week. Nice walk to get there, then amazing views from the top. We decided to extend the walk and continued down the other side through fields, along a track/road then through the woods. Our two boys (12 & 7) managed the walk fine. It was our first 'proper' walk... More

My first felll walk was greeted with amazing views of Lake Windermere. The way back down was a bit of a trek so do your homework first and give plenty of time and follow the signs or otherwalkers.

A ramble out of Windermere town, up a lane to the Ambleside side of the Windermere Hotel, is a zig-zag short route up to Orrest Head. (There are several other more interesting ways up if you check a map). There is a continuous ris to a moorland top. Several seats, view-map are scattered around. A picnic at the top, or... More

Fairly steep walk up but plenty of stopping/viewing areas. Great view from the top and an easy decent . Better on a clear day but have done it in the rain and still Enjoyed it ,

What an amazing view! A really lovely walk, some quite steep and muddy parts, but well worth the trip. Absolutely wonderful place to walk and take in Windermere from above.

Lovely walk up to a stunning view looking over the lake. I saw this walk as a must when in Windermere and I am so glad we did it. It's well worth the short walk up you will not be disappointed.

Great view from the top. Many options of paths to come down from Orrest Head giving you variety to do this walk more than once.

The walk to the Orrest Head viewpoint itself (doing the Orrest Head trail, starting at Windermere Station) is about 20-25 minutes. So isn't too bad if you wish to walk up and take the same route down. I would recommend good footwear, as there is stoney paths, as well as tree trunks and rocks which you may need to walk... More
