Pleasant stroll through woodland to the rocky top. Amazing views of almost the entire length of Windermere with Langdale beyond. Looking north over toward Helvellyn and east toward the Yorkshire Dales. Well worth it even though it is only a short walk.

It's not too difficult a walk to the top and the views certainly warrant the effort. You have the option of returning the same way or going down the other side and extending the walk - which we did. But a map/ guide book should...More

One of The Lakes’ great and easily accessible, but not very high, viewpoints, visited many times and still a joy.

Absolutely amazing views of Windermere quite exhilarating once you reach the top, an easy to moderate walk with clear footpaths all the way

11 of us walked up Orrest head which included children as young as 7 and a 62 year old with a bad hip. The walk is certainly manageable unless your mobility is extremely limited. Yes, there are some slight steep areas however most of us...More

Several different views over Windermere and the surrounding area. A moderately steep climb to the top, but smooth paths so accessible to most (only a handful of stairs near the top) - it takes around 20 minutes to climb. Lots of benches at the top...More

nice place to go, but no view because of fog... we had a great Long walk anyway, so a view ist not always the main aim on a day out

Definitely take the time to do this walk! It’s best in the morning before it gets too warm or the rain comes in. It’s easy to do even in sandals and the plaque diagram at the top with the different fell names is brilliant!

Great view across lake district and definitely worth the hike up the hill. Excellent 360 degree photo opportunity

This is about a 20 minute walk from Windermere and worth every minute to get there. The views are absolutely amazing. Definitely worth the walk which is not difficult!

It is probably a lot less muddy than when I visited in January but the terrain was quite steep and uneven in places and I wouldn’t take a buggy.

There is parking opposite the entrance to the walk, as far as i am aware it is free street parking. I parked there for most of the day and did not get a ticket, just outside some guest houses.
