Small but interesting

A small museum attached to the information office .Local artefacts but a display cabinet all about the ' Monocled Mutineer ' is of more general interest.

Interesting and with enough to keep you interested for an hour or so. There were a number of items from WW1 and a number of geological exhibits/

Free to visit. It is very small with a variety of artefacts. As well as the history of the area there is a section on the geology of the Eden valley.

Went to infant school here and visiting museum brought back happy memories of those times. Visited with family who were here on holiday. The museum is housed in a small, ancient and quaint building making it easy to navigate. there are many local historical finds and plenty of information relating to exhibits and artefacts. The tourist information office is housed... More

A lovely little gem in central Penrith. We came across this by accident and the displays were great and there were plenty of activities for the kids, colouring, crafts etc. A great way to kill an hour or two. Far better than a trip to reghead!

My wife and I visited this informative tourist information centre and fascinating museum following our visit to Penrith Castle. We were warmly welcomed by friendly and knowledgeable staff and were presented with a number of excellent leaflets and guides (some we bought) on the lovely market town of Penrith and the Eden Valley. We enjoyed their small shop and picked... More

We visited today for the first time and found a quirky and interesting eclectic collection, encompassing local history geography and geology as well as interesting artefacts. As it is also the tourist information office it is a source of information for the entire Lakes area as well as further afield. With pleasant staff and a free attraction this lttle historic... More

This small museum is at the rear of the friendly and well stocked tourist information centre. Although it is small you can easily spend 45 minutes or more here reading about the history of Penrith, its industry, characters, buildings and geology. There are some nice examples of local artists work as well as silver and porcelain. Not interactive but children... More
