parked at dalemain while we went walking and called in at the cafe for late lunch on the way back. I had a lovely bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich and coffee. There was a group of 30 walking so it was a bit slow getting served as they were a bit short on staff. would come back again as enjoyed and... More

The House is open between 10.30 and 3.30 Sundays to Thursdays, although access to the house is by way of a guided tour up to 2.00pm when after it becomes free flow. The award winning gardens are superb; being small, compact and with views over the countryside. The lower gardens are slightly less well maintained and access is somewhat limited... More

Before visiting, check their website! There are some very good events throughout the year (marmalade festival, chilli festival etc). The tour through the house is very well done, and everyone can enjoy it. The coffee shop/restaurant is well serviced - I've never seen it quiet, which is a good sign. Weather permitting, the gardens are wonderful, and well worth a... More

Beautiful old house which gives an insight into how people used to live. Cafe was super, warm and cosy with lot's of home made treats. The grounds were stunning, The tour guide was very good and took time to answer all questions whilst still keeping us all together!

Dalemain House is a beautiful house in a beautiful setting. Our guide obviously loved her subject and we had an enjoyable tour. It was a surprise to find out about the Marmalade Competition that is part of Dalemain and great to be able to sample so many different types of marmalade. We could not resist buying some. There were many... More

not just another country house, this one.... excellent and well-informed guide who really knew her stuff and obviously loves the place. Tea room with log fire. Interesting church a mile away on foot. Beautiful gardens -they won a prize. The owners of this historic house are very "can do" and there are lots of projects on, with the University of... More

We really enjoyed our visit here today, from the lovely greeting by the lady in the shop where we purchased our tickets. As we had time before the tour of the house we found the cafe and what a find. The coffee was very good, the cheese scones, fruit cake and sticky gingerbread were superb and made on site were... More

A hugely refreshing change from average stately home experience. Still very much a family home, not sanitised but feels lived in. Guide was family employee who knew the history and the family and made the tour fascinating with little anecdotes. Tea room is lovely , historic with roaring fire. And the range of award winning mar else's available to buy... More
