Extremely dangerous
Oct 2021 • Family
We made it expressly clear it was our child’s first time climbing the staff assured us he would be supervised appropriately. As it transpired this was patently untrue.
For inexperienced children using the climbing wall it is extremely unsafe due to this lack of supervision.
Our child nearly suffered a critical head injury due to the almost chaotic situation with the instructor not watching as he descended down the wall.
The instructor Louis was clearly unable to cope watching numerous children climbing and incredibly rude and arrogant after the incident. However, one member of staff Alex was very good and helpful after the incident. We had observed Alex beforehand and he was highly professional, but unfortunately they swapped instructors when our sons group had their session.
The matter has been reported to the local authorities, it is not a matter of if but when a person is critically injured.
If you are an experienced climber then you will be fine, but otherwise it’s not safe by any stretch of the imagination. There are far safer climbing walls in the area for beginners.

I understand that your child is the most precious thing in the world to you, just as is everyone’s child is to us when they come to Kong. All our sessions are extremely safe and we have a very hardworking and experienced staff team. The instructor gave a brief to all the children in the group of how to climb the wall safely and how the auto belaying system works for descending properly. However, from time to time if children don’t follow the instruction properly, they can spin descending off the wall and unfortunately this has happened to your son, and he has bumped his head on one of the holds. Also, the instructor didn’t deserve to be sworn at and belittled in front of the whole climbing wall. Its unfortunate that this happened but climbing can be dangerous activity.

Rude staff and a rip off!
Oct 2021 • Family
After entering via the shop the shop assistant barely looked up and said go upstairs. We went upstairs to see a tiny play not the amazing experience that had been advertised via their website. As we stood in the queue wainting to be seen by a very stressed out looking man who at one point put his his head in hands he suanted past my son and shouted get off that as he was touching a barrier which infuriated me. After aht seemed like an eternity I asked how much is the play area please? His only reply was 'a tenner' I said what do you mean for both children and how long for. It was goi g to cost us £20 to use the tiny play area which my 3 year olds would be done with in 20 mins! Greed and beyond rude staff please stay away!

Unfortunately, you must have come at a very busy time of day for us, and I can only apologise for the staff member on the desk not being quick enough at getting your children playing sooner. However, As you have pointed out and I’ve spoken to the instructor on the desk that your child was doing something dangerous and that is the reason he was shouted at. As for the play area it is in fact a lot bigger than you realise with the caving system that is built into the wall. Also, there is no time limit in the play area, and plenty of children who come to Kong enjoy playing in there for quite a while.

Rock climbing for all ages and abilities. Option of an instructor for the more difficult parts. Totally safe. My 15 year olds loved it.

Ghyll scrambling with Adam at Kong Adventure
Aug 2021 • Family
My wife and I have just returned with our 11 year old twins from a Ghyll scrambling experience with Adam at Kong Adventure. It was the excellent. Along with two other people in our group we were a mix bag of experience. Adam put us to ease very early on and provided simple and clear instruction. The session tested our abilities, even the more confident ones in the group. He was very encouraging throughout.
Adam also knew a bit about the local mining history and the impact of this on the Ghyll we were scrambling, which was nice.
It was a very well organised session and the equipment used appropriate and suitable for us all. We were supplied with everything we needed.
Very enjoyable and would definitely recommend.

Great Service
Aug 2021
We rented a paddle board from them. When the board turned out to have a puncture, one of the staff walked a replacement board to our location on the lake. Outstanding service.

Great auto belay climbing with children
May 2021 • Family
We enjoyed an hour's climbing in the Krazy Kong section of the wall. These are fun climbing challenges with auto-belay devices so all five of us could climb at the same time.

Sam the instructor was great, and especially good with the children who hadn't climbed much before and were quite nervous. But by the end they were feeling much more confident.

We'll be booking a family climbing lesson on the main wall soon and after that we'll be confident to take the children climbing and belay them ourselves whenever we want.

Kong Adventure discriminated against me because of my disability.
Apr 2021
I was discriminated against by Kong Adventure on Friday 23rd April 2021 when I was refused entry to the shop as I’m unable to wear a face covering due to my disability.

I stated I was exempt from wearing a face covering and was asked to prove exemption which is illegal, after explaining to the very rude shop assistant that he was harassing me, discriminating against me and acting illegally. I then left the shop where I was welcomed in other shops in Keswick without any issues. Needless to say I won't be going back again.

We seem to have gone backwards in the last 12 months, shops like this will soon be preventing blacks, gays, and Irish people from entering their establishments.

I will be pursuing a legal claim against Kong Adventure for discrimination as they are in breach of section 13 of the Equality Act 2010. I took a photograph of the shop assistant who refused me entry.

Disabled people have fought for years against discrimination like this and I would urge people to boycott this shop.
