This was an excellent hour spent in Keswick! I have been using Derwent pencils for years and no idea about the history of graphite and history of the pencil in Cumbria. They give you a little scavenger hunt sheet to guide your visit, which I...More

The museum packs quite a lot of information into a small space. I ws most interested in the historical detail about the specific fellside where graphite used to be mined, and the value the mineral had when it was used in the manufacture of canonballs,...More

This tiny little museum is full of interesting facts about the history and the making of pencils! If that kind of thing interests you then go along. Entrance fee is probably a little steep, but it does include a free pencil. For it's nerdy value,...More

We found it interesting to learn about how pencils and crayons are made. The quiz was fun, and made sure we read all the information boards. My sons ragged on us when they heard we had been, but we still enjoyed our visit. Nice coffee...More

I love Keswick and have been visiting for years but until this last trip had never visited the pencil museum. That was mainly because I'm not that bothered about how pencils used to be made. However, I felt I owed it a visit so took...More

Thank you for your comments, if you had informed staff on the day we would happily refunded your entrance fee, we would rather the visitors be happy and enjoyed there visit then leave disgruntled, which would be the point. DPM

There is something fabulously nerdy and British about a museum dedicated to pencils. It has been on DH’s bucket list since he saw it featured in the film “Sightseers”. The rest of the family said a resounding “no!” But we ended up giving it a...More

Used to be great when part of the working pencil factory. Now a standalone exhibition in the grounds of the derelict factory. Not much there except some display boards to read. Just about OK for £4.95 I guess, but I won’t bother again.
