I arrived in the Lake District only to realize my hiking boots had sprung a leak. Not what you want in the wettest place in England. So off it was to GF for some detailed discussion with very patient and knowledgable staff, who equipped me with a new pair that was a step up from my current useless Ahnus. I... More

Although it is not immediately obvious due to its location at the top of the store, it is possible to have an excellent lunch in the cafe at George Fisher’s in Keswick. It was busy while we were present and there is not a lot of seating but it proved an enjoyable experience. My wife had smoked chicken and linguine,... More

The shop is staffed by enthusiasts who use the clothing and equipment they sell. Expert advice is provided including an excellent boot fitting service. Extensive range of top quality products covering all aspects of walking and climbing. Does come at a price and my only criticism would be that they do tend to be more expensive than other outlets.

6 of us trouped into GF with 5 of us in search of some comfortable walking footwear. 3 of us hired good quality walking boots at £15 for a week - feet carefully measured and boots tried out - I bought a pair of new boots (extremely comfortable) and 1 of us ended up with new walking shoes. We were... More

We are really impressed on all levels with this shop. They are experts at fitting and advising on footwear. A great range of clothing is available, some at great sale prices. The wife bought a hat yesterday and a pair of boots today.

I have been visiting fishers since teenage years and it has remained as much a fascinating shop to browse as it was way back then (I am now in my 60's). It has undergone many updates and now has a tea room. If I have a criticism it tends to be expensive. That said items are of high quality and... More

My wife has been having trouble finding the right pair of boots and was recommended to try here. Sean came to help and spent over an hour, measuring feet, explaining how to tie laces to reduce pressure on the toes, helping to try on a variety of boots, explaining the use of supporting insoles. I was amazed and have never... More

When we travel to Keswick, we seem to drift into George Fishers more often than not, especially as it is more or less opposite to Bar 26 where we always go for morning coffee (we sure know how to live recklessly don't we!!). I purchased my first proper walking shoes there and the staff were very attentive and experienced in... More

A visit to Keswick is never complete without a visit to Fisher's. An outstanding outdoor shop with all sorts of everything for the outdoor enthusiast. The only problem is that you always end up buying something. Totally recommended.

I've been going to Fishers for more years than I care to remember. It has a fantastic range of outdoor clothing and equipment and the staff are very knowledgeable. However, have your wallet at the ready as it's not cheap and you may well find the same or similar good elsewhere in Keswick for considerably less money. If you're in... More
