I saw two plays here while I was in Keswick. One was "the Rivals" by Sheridan. This is a classic, with lots of people coming in and out of various doorways, and unrequited love. The second one, "the Vertical Hour" by David Hare, was very demanding, with lots of tension between men and women, teacher and student, political left and... More

One of life's pleasures is a few days in the Lake district, a strenuous walk on the fells and an evening at the Theatre. We've been doing it for 30 years, starting well before the present building came into existence. The Theatre is a Lake District institution and rightly so. Not every play will be to everyone's taste but all... More

Enjoyed a very nice evening here with another couple, seeing a performance of 'The Rivals'. A very nice theatre, and a very good performance. We also had pre-theatre dinner in the Cafe by the Lake, also very good. A good way of spending an evening after your day of walking in the beautiful hills of the South Lakes.

The theatre was great, plenty of parking, comfortable seating, wonderful show with great acting. Even has great looking snacks for the interval. Reasonable ticket prices too.

A lovely theatre in a beautiful location. We have visited several times. I particularly enjoyed 'The 39 Steps' - very funny and brilliantly performed - and my young daughter loved the 'Tortoise and the Hare' ballet and 'A present for Santa' as well as films shown in the main theatre. Can't wait to go back!

Whilst staying near Keswick, noticed there was a theatre and The Rivals was showing during our stay. As it is one of my favourite restoration comedies I was keen to see it. I persuaded my husband and teenage son to watch it too. I then worried in case they did not like it... I need not have worried, they really... More

The theatre itself is clean and very friendly staff. The plays produced are always great no matter what you see. However , the cost for the car park is extortionate. And makes a trip out to the theatre more expensive. I haven't however let this impend my score of the theatre cause its to do with the council. We ate... More

If you happen to visit the Lakes, do go to one or two performances at the Theatre by the Lake. It is very impressive to have such good and varied plays to go to. We went to Elektra, and were taken on an emotional rollercoaster of a play for 90 mins. Left exhausted, but exhilarated by such wonderful acting.

This is a lovely Theatre with a great atmosphere. The play was good although we felt slow in the first half, the second made up for it. The actors were good and the theatre had a homely feel with plenty of leg room. We ate in the restaurant which was a set meal although I would not do so again.... More
