Went with my 18 year old daughter to do the Via Ferrata experience. Her birthday gift and she wanted her mum to join in the fun!! If you have a head for heights and enjoy an adventure then you will love this. A bus takes you up to the start and then you follow a route that takes you around... More

The story about how the Slate Mine was bought back as a working mine was very interesting and a little sad that the man with the vision isn't around any longer. We chose the tour of the mine and it was most enjoyable and Rowly knew his stuff and put it across very well. Lots to do and cleverly the... More

A great and very educational trip for both adults and children alike. All the staff follow in the footsteps of the deceased owner, they care about the mine and it's future. Fab shop with loads of opportunities to buy slate products of all shapes and sizes. Wear stout shoes and if you visit when iys torrential rain be aware for... More

Honister is a great location and offers lots of good stuff like the mine tour, via ferrata and shop which we have all tried and really enjoyed. But this review is for walkers as if you are venturing out of Seatoller, up Dale Head or over to Green Gable, or even returning from as far as Hay Stacks via the... More

There is so much more to do Besides the tour if you have a hard for heights the views are spectacular. They have a very well stocked shop with some lovely pieces made from the green... More

The drive over Honister Pass is not for the faint hearted. Going down is proper scary with very narrow , very, very steep mountain pass road and coming up, well !!! On a wet day it would be very difficult for a car with narrow gauge tyres. The views are stunning and do go if you are completely comfortable with... More

I visited Honister after watching a programme on TV about Mark Weir who brought the mine back to life and who tragically died in the making of the film. He was killed when his helicopter crashed. I spoke to his mother who worked there on my visit and was moved to tears when talking about him. I found him such... More

Visited Honister Slate Mine today and had a brilliant time. Decided to do the £12.50 tour and what a surprise! Was well worth the money. Our guide was Donald who was entertaining and informative throughout with a clear passion for the Lakes and it's mining history. He led us with a firm but fair hand ensuring everyone's safety at all... More
