Amazing place with something for every level
Aug 2020 • Couples
As a very new climber going with my boyfriend who has a lot more experience, the centre had something for all levels. They have great smaller walls for bouldering and belaying where we could warm up and build my confidence and knowledge. We were then able to move on to the huge belaying walls where even watching some of the climbers was enough fun! Great to then be able to use the auto belays and practice my belaying too. Just such a well set out place - we were in Kendal on holiday and went twice in one week!

Lucky to have such a venue
Feb 2020 • Friends
First off, I’m writing this review as a route climber to 6b standard.
In terms of the basics... theres plenty of free parking, the staff are friendly, there’s a shop, small canteen, and changing facilities.
The routes are long and varied. The real rock features make the climbing more realistic.
There’s usually 5 auto belays and several routes where you can lead with your own draws.
I’d say the overall difficulty level is higher then other climbing centres that I have been to. The big wall is pretty much inaccessible to anybody without at least 50m of rope and the skill to lead 6a and up on pumpy inverted routes.
This isn’t me. Yet.
I try to go whenever I’m in the area, avoiding busy times for the reason just mentioned. Recommend you do the same.

alternative to getting wet
Aug 2019
Last week friends and myself went climbing in the Lake District. It was a glorious sunny day and we set out from our camp site (sykeside) to meet up with our guide in the car park of the Ambleside rugby club. Our guide was Paul I climbed with him last year, a great guy, he also plays a mean set of drums.
The total amount of climbs counted 7 and they varied in difficulty. As a newbe to the climb bug i appreciated the encouragement from Paul our guide and my two companions Ross and his wife Dominiqueka, we tope roped and bottom roped using
bridge moves or sometimes relying on just our feet to keep us stuck to the rock face. We finished the day in the pub for a beer.
next day was wet and very rainy, we went to the
lake side climb centre (Kendle) and traversed the Via ferratta very scary but good fun, great climb, great guide, great venue

Skyline + jump
Aug 2019 • Family
Never done climbing before but really enjoyed this, totally safe, hooked on 100% of the time, you do need to have a certain level of fitness and flexibility but at the same time you don’t have to be an Olympic athlete, instructor was very good, although his children skills needed fine tuning, (I’d put this down to his age being young himself) , definitely recommend having a go.

Skyline climbing session
Aug 2019 • Family
we visited on a,rainy day when we couldn't do the hike we planned. 2 teenagers, and one dad (scared of heights) had a fantastic session with instructor Ben and 3 others. After a thorough but light hearted safety session the 6 completed a fun but tricky climbing session. Ben was able to encourage the nervous and stretch the more confident. All staff were friendly, smiley and knowledgeable

Wet day climb
Jul 2019 • Family
Chose to visit on a wet day whilst in the Lakes. We spent about 3 hours in the centre split between the climbing walls and the bouldering rooms. The walls were well set and the 25m main lead wall was a good challenge. Some of the kit looked dated and the top ropes had a lot more stretch in than we are used to, so gave them a miss. The blocs were excellent, with a range of problems, our kids particularly liked the roof section.

Crazy climb
Jul 2019 • Family
We booked in for Crazy climb for our 6 year old and he loved it. He loved trying the different walls with varying difficulties and the instructor was walking around the 12 or so climbers and still appeared regularly on hand to give advice and encouragement. As a parent watching your 6 year old jumping off the Giants Causeway can bring your heart into your mouth but his confidence grew throughout. We had booked in Skyjump as well and the instructor was good by letting the kids come up to the edge and see if they could do it, but we're still reassuring and there was no pressure, peer or otherwise, to make the jump. It was great that the instructor made a point of talking directly to our son and reiterated it was about fun and if it got scary and the fun stopped then it wasn't something to stress about. The cafe was functional and our little boy enjoyed watching the climbing videos while we waited. Recommended.

Staff virtually laughed us out of the building.
May 2019 • Family
The walls looked very good, however I never got past the haughty staff. I am a 17 year old looking to get into the sport and when I was asked by reception staff, how long I had been climbing for, they virtually laughed at my lack of experience. They did not even allow me discuss my current climbing level, saying that it is ‘irrelevant’ and I need to be taught “how to hold the holds”

Hi Jacob It's great that you want to get into climbing and I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed that you weren't able to climb when you visited us. As with all climbing walls, we do have a duty of care for the people who climb in our building and as such all under 18's need to be supervised either by an experienced adult climber or by a qualified instructor. It sounds like you were hoping to climb unsupervised. We do have a junior bouldering sign off procedure for 14-17 year olds with lots of experience under their belt. If this sounds like you, perhaps you would like to book a junior bouldering sign off. These are free of charge. (A parent needs to be present during the sign off.) We also offer Beginners Sessions (for 14's and over) which are a great way to get into the sport and these are available on Thursdays and Saturdays. Details and booking are available on our website or just call the centre.

Thrilling Experience
Apr 2019 • Family
We took our two Grandchildren [5] and [10] to the climbing wall when they visited us in their school holidays. They absolutely loved it and had a wonderful time climbing up and swinging down from great heights. The well trained staff were super and because it was quiet - the locals were not on holiday from school - they had their undivided attention. We felt they were well supervised and in safe hands.
