    Best Coffee in their Cafe
Very surprised by reviews. 1) I have never been before 2) I don't own a dog In summary Gluten free orange was moist a delicious Oat milk latte and normal milk latte were two of the very best coffees we have ever had - we drink alot of coffee from around the UK. Unusual to find such perfect coffee tbh. Chap was very courteous and explained in detail why he believes the coffee to be outstanding. So a 5 star review of the cafe, coffee, cake, service and toilets. Can only review on what we personally experienced.

    Expensive Food
£31 for 2 cheese and ham toasties and 2 mini pots of tea that only provided one cup. We've eaten here many times before and affordable. Not any more! Not posh enough for these prices. Service charge also taken in advance at point of sale at counter. You can refuse but its embarrasing to do so.

Nice lunch tho a little pricey
We had lunch there yesterday, my cheese and ham toastie was quite expensive but was the best ever. DH had soup and a roll, not substantial but tasted fine. We skipped drinks as we had some before visiting. DH didn't notice service charge but presumably paid it. We like this place, pity the greenhouses are gone and the car park next door is cheaper. We will return but not order hot drinks, it was 21C yesterday and we had water in our car.

This is my first negative review but I have struggled to come up with anything remotely positive! If this cafe was located anywhere else other than The Lake District it wouldn't have survived. We visited at around 2 pm on Wednesday 29 July.
Upon arrival at the entrance of the cafe, I sanitised my hands and completed a Covid contact form and then stood at the 'wait to be seated' notice. Two members of staff were behind the counter making drinks and completely ignored the small queue as did the surly waitress - a friendly acknowledgement would have gone a long way! Even taking the current climate into consideration, there is no excuse for rudeness particularly when the cafe was quiet. Eventually, the waitress came down the stairs, towards the counter and yelled to the queue 'if you have sanitised, go and sit down' which we did.

We found a table on the patio area and had a nice break in the sun for 20 minutes waiting to place our order. Despite trying to making eye contact with both the waitress and a younger male waiter numerous times we admitted defeat and made our way to Grasmere Tea Gardens who were welcoming and were happy to take our order of drinks and food!

Having visited the cafe about 10 times before pre children I've always loved the food. I was eager to return with my children and family on our latest visit but couldn't have been more disappointed by the experience. On walking into the cafe we found only one free table for the 6 of us that needed cleaning I alsed very politely to the mam behind the counter (bald head) are we OK sit there and could it be cleared when they got a chance. His only reply was was where? I said over there, he said no that areas closed. I said there's people eating in there and he said no its closed. Then proceeded to get a rope and rope off the area in front of me with people still dining in there. When I aksed why is it closed he said its closed! I couldn't believe the rudeness of this man and his arrogance. We were 6 people ready for all pay for food and for some reason we're refused service. No explanation just poor arrogance!!!! Please do not visit!

Today 13/08/23. We came back to the lakes like we do every year and always stop here for lunch as the menu was amazing for what we wanted but today there is no menu no hot food and just the choice of over priced dry poor quality cakes the garden center also seems to have put the prices up a silly amount for no reason at all the only explanation is the new owners are been geedy. We had coffee in the coffee shop the coffee was as good as it always has been but the cake we had to go with it was poor we had the carrot cake we shouldn't of bothered it was a waste of money please avoid the cakes they are dry poor quality and not worth the extortionate money they cost now. We saw on lady cleaning the tables so we decided to tell her about our experience turns out she was one of the new owners. Wow just wow she was very rude and dismissed all of my complaints to her I would of thought speaking to the actual owner then it would be better but no can't belive how rude this woman was she even accused me of being wrong and not understanding. And to top it off after she spoke she just walked away before I could reply it just shows how arrogant this person is doesn't care about customer service just how much money can line her pocket. We will never be returning here again as there are better places close by that look after there customers.

Walked into the cafe and saw a man dressed in a casual pair of jeans and fleese who just gave us a dirty look. We saw a sign that said to wait to be seated but as we didn’t think he worked there and we couldn’t see any other staff in sight we sat ourselves and our dog.

We looked over the menu and decided on just getting two drinks. Nobody came to our table to take our order so we assumed that we went up to the counter to order. We went up there to look at the cake selection when the lady behind the counter asked if she could help us. We asked for our two drinks and were told to go and sit down and somebody would come and take our order.

Meanwhile, my father was still sat at our table with our dog. Our dog was calm and just standing there having a look around and wasn’t causing an issue at all. This was when the man who was standing at the front of the cafe (who we couldn’t tell if he was staff or not) kept coming around the corner to stare at him, and then went back around the corner.

My mother and I came to sit back down and we had our orders taken. Throughout the whole time we were sat there the same man kept coming around the corner to stare at us and made us feel very uneasy and unwelcome. The drinks were mediocre at best and weren’t worth getting stalked for. While we were there we also noticed that this man acted the same towards everyone coming into the cafe so clearly he wasn’t in the right job. 100% would not recommend. Very creepy.

Tip to improve: Don’t stare at your customers.

We visited and was welcomed by a car parking fee of £4 for two hours only too find that the garden centre had been taken over and that dogs are not allowed in anymore.
Inside looked upmarket with lots of posh laughs being heard no doubt laughing at the prices.
The cafe looked very nice if not a little pretentious for my liking especially with a 10 % service on top of the parking charge making my simple coffee probably one of the most expensive in the country.
Not my cup of tea.

My wife and I are regular visitors to Grasmere and usually make a point of stopping into the Garden Centre in the course of our holiday. How surprised we were then to see the extensive changes implemented inside and out with the change of ownership. Can now be fairly described as a generally ludicrously expensive shop and cafe with an exploitative parking charge thrown in as thanks for your patronage. Quite honestly I’ll give it 12 to 18 months until the shutters come down permanently on the place.

Been going to this garden centre for years for our lunch and ice creams. Today 5/8/2023 our Latte was lovely as usual, the carrot cake was so dry I was unable to eat it and the lemon drizzle cake wasn't much better. Sad as we've said we won't go again and our family have said the same when we told them our £15 bill was a waste of our money.

Been visiting Grasmere for years and always called in to the garden centre and cafe for food and drinks.
What a rip off. The car park used to be free for customers, but no more. You will pay four pounds to park here for two hours, with no concessions for customers of the cafe and shop.
We ordered two cheese and ham toasties, a latte and a pot of tea. The bill was £27.50 included a 10% service charge. With the £4 parking fee, the snack cost us 31.50.
Never again.

Was waiting for a table to go and eat in the cafe, and witnessed the 'manager' shouting at a lady who was looking to sit at a table. She was utterly rude and eventually told/shouted at the lady to 'just leave, just get out'.
Felt like I didn't want to stay and was an inconvenience to her so we left.

Shame as it felt it let the place down, but the shop had some lovely things.

We have just had a 3 night stay in Grasmere whuch is one of our favourite places visiting at least 2,-3 times a year. Once we have checked into our hotel the first thing we normally do is visit the garden centre for a cream scone and then spend a good hour looking at the plants and always seem to end up buying interesting and cute little gifts for friends, or our home.

What a massive disappointment today when we opened the door. It was no longer the welcoming sight of all the different gifts and crafts etc, but totally sparse extortionate priced handbags pictures etc. The outside garden centre with plants, roses, and shrubs is

no longer there either. This place used to be the hub of Grasmere village, even coach tours use to bring their coachloads, of tourists to this lovely garden centre. Feel Grasmere, has certainly lost its sparkle, now that it is no longer the garden centre we knew and loved. Instead, the prices are so high, no visitor will be able to spend that amount of money on the items they are trying to sell. I can't even imagine what the new owners were thinking of when they changed everything.

This used to be a thriving place with a cafe full of people, even tables outside in the summer months. I feel really sad to see what it has now become. I maybe wrong, but i can't see any way the owners are going to make a business from their mad idea. This, is certainly not in keeping with village life of beautiful Grasmere!!!!

What a waste of a building!!
