What a great place to spend a couple of hours. A good mix of information that informs you about all the things that Coniston is famous for. Only negative is the vast amount of written information in the blue folders around the museum.

There is such a lot to see in this museum! It's a well laid out collection that displays the heritage of the village and surrounding area and for me it really brings the past to life. It depicts real local history, not just a history of the elite. There is excellent coverage of the work, traditions and pastimes of local... More

Interesting and well laid out for local history and especially the Campbell Wing which was the reason for our visit. Alan who was in charge of admissions on the day of our visit was partially helpful.

This is a really interesting little museum tucked away in the lovely setting of Coniston. It is packed full of a variety of themes from lace to geology and Swallows and Amazons. And of course Ruskin! The highlight has to be the exhibition on Donald Campbell which is full of information and memorabilia. It has part of the wreckage which... More

The only ( understandable ) downside was that dogs are not allowed so hub and I had to take turns, limiting ourselves to an hour each. The museum had so much to look at and read about. There were geological exhibits and displays, info about the copper mines, displays relating to locals dating back to WW1. Blue ring binders were... More

The Museum is tucked away in Coniston and from the outside doesn't really excite. But inside it's a tardis, telling the story of John Ruskin (visit Brantwood as well) and in a separate wing paying homage to Donald Campbell, who died on the Lake attempting to set yet another speed record. See Amazon - the dinghy from Swallows and Amazons... More

The Donald Campbell section was very interesting and had a lot of relevant exhibits bringing his story back to life. Also particularly enjoyed reading the World War 2 letters and stories. Well worth a visit.

A hidden gem in Coniston. A small museum packed with displays and exhibits ranging from very moving letters written in WW2, the Bluebird exhibition and the Ruskin wing. So much information packed into a small area. Very reasonable entrance fee and you can get in again using same ticket within 12 months. The lady on the desk was very friendly... More

We enjoyed looking around this museum small but very well put together and a credit to those who worked hard to make it as well presented as it is. There was lots of info on john ruskin and other local history, the section on donald campbell and the bluebird k7 was fascinating and the fact of having some of the... More
