Before we even arrived at the main exhibits (Bluebird, plus John Ruskin) we were captivated by tales of war time exploits set out in note books written with generosity and skill. The range of exhibits really captivated us in unexpected ways. As the ticket gave us entry for the whole day, we gave ourselves a break half way through our... More

I often pop in here when I am in Coniston. I am a Arthur Ransome fan and his boat is here so well worth a visit.

We initially visited the John Ruskin Museum purely to see the Donald Campbell and Bluebird exhibition but whilst we found exactly what we had expected in terms of our interest in Campbell, we soon became equally fascinated and interested in other facets of the museum including Ruskin himself, history of lace and embroidery, history and artefacts of climbing to an... this is a wonderful place it is of course a lot about John Ruskin but there is all sorts of other interesting things to see and learn from like the Bluebird story, local crafts, geology and history of the area.Does have Loos and a nice shop but no cafe however there are places in the village.

Thoroughly-enjoyed out visit. The Ruskin exhibition in particular is wonderful, with so many personal belongings of the man himself. I can especially recommend reading the letters from the ten-year-old Ruskin to his father! The remains of Bluebird K7 are very poignant too. Very thought-provoking and highlight just how driven and single-minded Campbell was to pursue his goals at the ultimate... More

Great exhibition on Donald Campbell and the Bluebird story, though provoking and very interesting. John Ruskin unless you are connoisseur, is heavy going and the art exhibition is very heavy going. Worth a visit for the Campbell exhibition alone.

Being honest we were a bit apprehensive about visiting the museum as it is hidden away at the back of the Village Institute but what an experience. Entry is not particularly cheap if you look at it just from the outside, but we spent a whole afternoon in there learning about Donald Campbell's Blue Bird land and water speed record... More

Tucked away up a side street it might be easy to miss this brilliant museum. The story of Donald Campbell's obsession with going faster and faster on water is spell binding. I remember the iconic photograph of Bluebird somersaulting on Coniston Water well. There's also a great deal more to see and learn about. Geology of the area, Ruskin himself,... More

My husband wanted to visit here on a weekend in the Lakes, primarily for the Donald Campbell/ Bluebird exhibition. Entrance fee is £6 which you might think is a lot for a small museum but it is worth it. The John Ruskin section is interesting but the Bluebird wing is superb. It's housed in one room with lots of artifacts... More

What a great place to spend a couple of hours. A good mix of information that informs you about all the things that Coniston is famous for. Only negative is the vast amount of written information in the blue folders around the museum.
