Old Man Walk

What an experience, if your fit enough go for it, you can either go up and straight back down or when your at the top try one of many routes back down. The veiws are stunning.

A wonderful walk for our group with a clear blue sky and far reaching views over the coast and the Scarfell range. We did a circular walk from Coniston taking in Dow Crag, Brim Fell and the Old Man. Returned through the old mine and quarry workings which were very interesting. Finished with a well earned pint at the Yewdale... More

We did a round trip starting at the Walna Scar Car Park, going past the mines etc first. Such a sense of achievement at the summit and on a glorious day too! Would do again and again. Took around 4 hours.

Very pleasing walk, and views. Steep at the top, and although steps on the path, they are narrow. Low water beautiful.

Can't really add more than what others have wrote but great walk. From the sun inn, the first mile is just getting to the carpark so if on foot, it is initially very steep however levels out. The walk from the car park to the old man is challenging in places (further you go up then the trickier it gets)... More

It's not the most exciting mountain in the lakes but offers a few routes up to the summit, some more scenic than others. Great views from the top on a clear day. This mountain carries a lot of industrial history, evidence of which can still be found sleeping by the main tourist path. There's a lovely tarn toward the summit... More

This April I fulfilled a long-held ambition to walk up the Old Man of Coniston. On a fine day we drove up the road to the car park at it's foot (free but unmaintained - very potholey and bumpy!). From the start to the finish the views are unbelievable and we stopped several times to take photos. The start of... More

We first climbed the Swirl How and followed the path to old man of Coniston. It is possible to extend the walk to Dow Craig. You can enjoy panoramic views of the water of Coniston, low waters, reservoir and the sea from the top. The path to the old man of Coniston is very strenuous so if you want to... More
