Great mountain biking in the lakes , we hired bikes , the staff were great really helpful and informative . Excellent customer service . I was quite a novice only my 2nd time and it was more chalkenging than my first experience in Yorkshire . We had great weather the sun was out but it was still brisk . The run we did was quite chalkenging but we wanted a challenge , highly recommend this activity when visiting the lakes .

Took by teenage son bike riding in Grizedale. Rented bikes from the facility at the main reception at the forest. We chose to do the red 'north face' tour of the trails and they recommended their higher level bikes - a good recommendation given that the trail is quite technical and rocky in places. The red trail is a lot of fun and can be done with anyone with some prior experience in single trail mountain biking and reasonable fitness (the first section involves a climb on the single trail - it's not too steep and there are opportunities to rest on the way up). After that, the majority of the rest of the trail is flat with some nominal up hill and downhlll sections. There are some good testing sections with rocks on the single trail and some other good tests for the novice to mid range mountain rider. I imagine experienced riders would also have some fun on this route (though it's probably not as technical or graded as some of the other runs that they would do)

From lakeside trails to technical singletrack with some mountain top ridge rides thrown in, the Lakes has it all. There're lots of marked trails plus 2 trail centres at Grizedale and Whinlatter. If you're not sure where to go just call into one of the many local bike shops for trail advice. Rain or shine there is a mixture of terrain for everyone.

Some of the hardest terrain with THE best views in the world. There are some fantastic bridleways to follow, although don't be afraid to actually carry your bike if that's what it takes........
